Executive Bio

Mr. Clark S. Gillespy has been Senior Vice President of Economic Development at Duke Energy Corporation since December 31, 2016. Mr. Gillespy is responsible for advancing the Duke Energy's rate and regulatory initiatives and managing state and local regulatory and governmental relations, economic development and community affairs. He served as the President of Utility Operations in South Carolina at Duke Energy Corporation until December 31, 2016. He served as the President of South Carolina Service Region at Duke Energy Corporation since June 22, 2012. Prior to the merger between Duke Energy and Progress Energy in July 2012, he served as Vice President of Economic Development, Business Development & Territorial Strategies for Duke Energy in North Carolina and South Carolina. He joined Duke Energy Corporation in 2004 and has more than 25 years of combined experience in economic development, site selection consulting and the practice of international law in both the United States and Europe. He worked in partnership with with economic development organizations in North and South Carolina. He is a member of the South Carolina Economic Developers Association, the Palmetto Business Forum and the Public Utilities Review Committee's Energy Advisory Council. He serves on the advisory board of New Carolina and the boards of directors for the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the Palmetto AgriBusiness Council. He is a member of the boards of trustees for the S.C. Chapter of The Nature Conservancy and the Peace Center. He serves on the board of the American Red Cross of the Western Carolinas and is co-chair of the governing board of E4Carolinas. He is a member of the state bar associations of Alabama, Georgia and the District of Columbia. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Alabama. He holds Juris Doctorate Degree from the Cumberland School of Law (Alabama), continuing with a diploma in Advanced International Legal Studies from the McGeorge School of Law in Salzburg, Austria. He holds an MBA from European University in Brussels, Belgium.
