What do people at Duke Energy Corporation think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
IT generally approves of the CEO. Although their exposure to her may be through quarterly meetings, she's anointed initiatives that are generally doing well. Safety, transformation, and communication are generally up. And as long as those things remain positive, so do her ratings.
I think CEOs in general get paid WAY too much for what they do. As an account I think she has very little connection with what her workers do and she only sees us as numbers to be cut for a better bottom line. She has never been "in the trenches" so has no idea what it takes to get the job done.
Does Duke Energy Corporation drug test or do a background check?
Yes to both. At least they do that in their Nuclear Generation departments
How long after an interview at Duke Energy Corporation does it take to hear back?
My experience was about 4 to 5 weeks, but that was over 30 years ago so hopefully by now it has changed.
How's the morale at Duke Energy Corporation?
Right now? Fairly horrible. They just announced a 30% cut in man power at the operating units and a 50% cut at corporate. So there are a lot of people very worried about the jobs that they have and are looking at how the required work is going to get completed. They tend to cut people to decrease operational costs but never relieve the administrative burden so work can actually be completed.
How secure do you feel at your job at Duke Energy Corporation?
100%
What's the vibe like in the IT dept at Duke Energy Corporation? How many hours are you working?
I work standard office hours. If you're in support you'll be on pager duty. Pager duty means your schedule isn't entirely your own, but they spread the pain across teams. IT is bimodal in Duke Energy: either you're supporting stable processes, or you're innovating hard. While everyone's modernizing, the innovator teams do feel similar to startup cultures.
What's the IT team like at Duke Energy Corporation?
There are all kinds. However, things are rapidly modernizing. This is not the same IT atmosphere that I was hired into, and that's a good thing. Essentially, I used to think Duke IT was its own animal like the Galapagos Islands, but recently they've drawn heavily from the market. What's state of the art out there is getting imported, and innovations internally are being shared outside. That said, rate of evolution heavily depends on what dept you're in
How's the leadership on the IT team at Duke Energy Corporation?
During my engagement with them, I feel like they've treated my questions legitimately and answered them as honestly as they could. In the past year I haven't had the sense that they're machinating behind closed doors. I'd give them good marks.
What's the vibe like in the Engineering dept at Duke Energy Corporation? How many hours are you working?
It truly is dependent on what you are doing and what site you are at. Design engineers have a much more regimented life style while the CMS folks respond to emergent issues. Corporate is a completely different beast. It is truly dependent on your supervisor and site.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at Duke Energy Corporation?
Some freedom to explore, and good work-life balance; they understand if you have appointments, as long as you do your work
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation at Duke Energy Corporation?
Top Employee Response
The longer the tenure, the more compensation diverges from market rates. Seemingly impossible to true up.
What makes you most happy at Duke Energy Corporation?
Top Employee Response
Automating stuff so I have to do less work
What are some of the best things about your team at Duke Energy Corporation?
The work is tough but very necessary. Even if the rest of the company may not know, the team takes pride in its work
What do you like best about the leadership team at Duke Energy Corporation?
They've clearly set a tone for future vision, and have given employees ways to have a voice and change something
