Prof. Julia S. Janson, also known as Julie, has been the Chief Legal Officer and Executive Vice President of Executive Affairs at Duke Energy Corporation since December 17, 2012. Prof. Janson has been Corporate Secretary of Duke Energy Corporation since December 2006. She has been Chief Legal Officer, Executive Vice President and Corporate Secretary at Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC since December 2012. She has been Chief Legal Officer, Executive Vice President and Corporate Secretary of Duke Energy Florida, LLC since December 2012. She has been Chief Legal Officer, Executive Vice President, Corporate Secretary at Duke Energy Ohio, Inc since December 2012. She served as Chief Legal Officer, Executive Vice President and Corporate Secretary of Duke Energy Indiana, LLC since December 2012. She served as Chief Compliance Officer of Duke Energy Kentucky, Inc. She served as the President of Duke Energy Kentucky Inc. from December 2008 to December 17, 2012. Prof. Janson served as the President of Duke Energy Ohio Inc. (formerly, Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company (CG& E)) from December 2008 to December 17, 2012 and its Secretary since January 2003. She served as a Secretary of CG& E since January 2003 and served as its Chief Compliance Officer. She served as the Chief Compliance Officer and Corporate Secretary of Cinergy Corp. since September 1, 2004 and July 1, 2000, respectively. She served as Senior Counsel of Duke Energy Ohio since 1998 and served as its Secretary since January 2003. Prof. Janson served as a Senior Vice President of Ethics & Compliance at Duke Energy Corporation since December 2006. She served as the Senior Counsel of Duke Energy Kentucky, Inc. since 1998. She served as Chief Compliance Officer of Duke Energy Ohio, Inc. since October 2004 and served as its Corporate Secretary from January 2003 to January 2006. From July 1998 to September 2004, she served as Senior Counsel of Cinergy Corporation, providing legal advice on general corporate, corporate governance and securities-related matters. Prof. Janson was responsible for Cinergy's corporate compliance program, which provides oversight, tracking and management of compliance with laws and regulations and business conduct standards. She served as the Chief Compliance Officer of Duke Energy Indiana, Inc. (formerly, PSI Energy Inc.) since October 2004 and its Senior Counsel since July 1998 and Secretary since July 2000. She served as Counsel of Cinergy Corp. and Duke Energy Indiana, Inc. from May 1996 to July 1998, where she provided research, advice and support for divestitures, mergers and acquisitions and support for numerous internal business clients, including Investor Relations, Shareholder Services, Corporate Communications and Government & Regulatory Affairs, including campaign finance, lobbying and political action committee practices. Prof. Janson served as Corporate Counsel to the International Business Unit at Cinergy. From January 1995 to April 1996, she served as Manager of Investor Relations for Cinergy Corp. She developed and implemented an investor relations program that extended and improved Cinergy's relationships with the financial community. She began her corporate career in June 1987 as a Law Clerk with Duke Energy Ohio, Inc. From August 1988 to January 1993, she served as Supervisor of securities processing and served as Transfer Agent for common and preferred stock at Duke Energy Ohio. From February 1993 to December 1994, she was a Corporate Attorney and key Member of the legal team at Duke Energy Ohio. She also drafted testimony and supported settlement negotiations in various state and federal regulatory commission proceedings and helped Cinergy Corp. defend itself against an unsuccessful hostile takeover bid. She served as Law Clerk with Adams, Brooking, Stepner, Wolterman & Dusing in Covington, Kentucky. She has been a Director of The Ohio National Life Insurance Company since May 2017 and Ohio National Financial Services, Inc. since May 16, 2017. She serves as a Director of Kentucky Chamber Of Commerce Inc., Duke Energy Florida, LLC, Duke Energy Progress, LLC and Carolina Power & Light Company. She serves as a Director of Progress Energy Inc. She served as Chairman of Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. Prof. Janson served on the board of Trustees of Lighthouse Youth Services from 2000 to 2001. She is active in a number of community and professional activities. She is a member of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Legal Committee and the North Carolina Economic Development Board, Structure and Metrics Committee. She is also a member of the Ohio Governor's Workforce Board, the Cincinnati Women's Executive Forum and the Commercial Club of Cincinnati. She chaired the Cincinnati Business Committee and co-chaired the Economic Development Task Force. Prof. Janson was also a member of the board of directors and executive committee of the Ohio Business Roundtable and a member of the Vision 2015 CEO Roundtable in Northern Kentucky. She served on the Climate Protection Steering Committee, appointed by the Cincinnati City Council and was a board member of the Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC), the University of Cincinnati Foundation and Cintrifuse. She served as vice chair of the 2012 World Choir Games and chaired the city of Cincinnati's 2010 Fine Arts Fund Campaign. She serves on the Queens University board of trustees. She also is a Director of the N.C. Chamber Legal Institute and a trustees of the Duke Energy Foundation. She has also served on the boards of directors of Northern Kentucky Tri-County Economic Development Corporation (Tri-ED), Vision 2015 Regional Stewardship Council, United Way of Greater Cincinnati and Lighthouse Youth Services. She has Juris Doctor degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1988 and was admitted to the Ohio Bar in November 1988 and the Kentucky Bar in May 2000. Prof. Janson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky.
