Frequently Asked Questions About Education.com

  • Premium members have access to Guided Lessons (games and exercises) for up to 35 students.

When using Guided Lessons in the classroom, or on multiple computers, we suggest you use"Classroom Mode." Only members designated as teachers or homeschoolers can use Classroom Mode.

Classroom Modegives you a Classroom Code to allow your students to play on their individual devices without you having to log in to each computer. You are alsoable to set *all* students to work at the same grade level by selecting "Lock Grade Level" and selecting the grade for the class to work at. If you choose, you can also select to "Hide" the grade level so it will not show in Classroom Mode. This will then lock and/or hide grades forallstudents. You can also select to lock or hide the grade level for individual students under the "Your Students" page.

Students can enter your Classroom Code at education.com/games/play, select their accounts, and then play as normal. Your students will be in our "Kid-Safe," ad-free Guided Lessons environment and they will not be able to access your Education.com account.

You can only use Classroom Mode if you have added children to your account. If you have not done this already, you can add them by clicking on your Premium user ID (in the upper right-hand corner of any page) and then visit the "Your students" page and follow the instructions.

Once your students are added, click on your Premium user ID, then choose "Classroom mode." Here you will see your Classroom Code and additional instructions. Your students can visit education.com/games/play and enter your Classroom Code to log in. Up to 35 students can play simultaneously, and you have some control over their play from the Classroom Mode page, namely the ability to stop them from playing and to put them back to the home screen, or to send them to a specific Guided Lesson.

"Guest Mode" is available if you do not want to enable tracking, or if you are using Guided Lessons in a computer lab where it is impractical to enter all the students.

  • If you are using an iPad, we have found that content blockers enabled in Safari can cause this issue. To disable content blockers, go to Settings, find Safari and tap Content Blockers to disable extensions. Then, also try to toggle the mute switch if your device has one.

Safari recently made a policy change about playing audio through web browsers so if the steps recommended above do not resolve your issue, please try using a different browser such as Chrome or Firefox. You can download Chrome by visiting www.google.com/chrome or Firefox from the Apple App store at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/firefox-web-browser/id989804926?mt=8.

If you are not on an iPad, please contact us and let us know what type of device and version of browser you are using, as well as a specific game for which there is no sound. This will help our technical team pinpoint and correct the issue.

  • Please remember that you have to be logged in to your account to download our worksheets and workbooks. Also, please ensure that you have the latest versions of your internet browser (Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer), PDF viewer (Adobe Reader), and drivers for your printer.

After logging into your Education.com account, select a desired worksheet or workbook that you would like to print or download. We’ll use this one as an example: http://www.education.com/worksheet/article/tropical-ocean-ecosystem/. Click on “Print Worksheet” and it should open the worksheet in your browser or PDF viewer, depending on the browser you use.

Once the PDF file is opened, simply click on the print icon within the PDF viewer (not your browser’s print function). You can usually find this icon in the upper right corner of your PDF viewer program. At the print window, simply select the print preferences you want (how many copies, black and white or color, etc.) and click on Print. Please note, many of our worksheets contain a good amount of color. If you are printing for a classroom you may want to choose the option to print to grayscale or black and white to reduce the amount of ink that is used.

  • Kid mode allows your child to play games and complete Guided Lessons in an ad-free environment, without having access to your account settings.

Once you have added a child to your account, you can get your kids started by visiting kids.education.com or by accessing “Kid mode” from your Premium user ID.

If you want to immediately hand off your device, selecting “Launch Kid Mode” from the Kid mode link will take you directly to a new ad-free window where your child can press Choose Player. From there, your child will be taken to a Quest page where he or she can access Reading, Math and Typing content from any grade level, or the Assignments that you’ve created for them. On this page, your child can set the grade level at which they wish to work for each separate subject.

If you wish to lock a child's grade level (so the child will not be able to change the grade level of games or other content), or hide the grade level shown, parents can select this option on the homepage by clicking on the pencil next to your child's avatar. Teachers can lock or hide the grade level for *all* students in the class from their Classroom Mode page. You can also select to lock or hide the grade level for individual students under the "Your Students" page.

If you aren’t directly handing off your device, press “View Instructions” and you will find the different ways to access our Guided Lessons and Assignments. We have a tablet app, or if you’re a teacher, you can use our Classroom mode or give your students their individual student codes to use so each student can only access his/her own profile and content.

If your student wishes to log out, he can choose "Sign Out" from the top right of the screen. If the student wishes to switch to a new player on the same device, he/she can click on Back to Players, or click on his/her name in the top right and then select Choose Player. This option will only be available if there is more than one student listed, and the student is not logged in with their individual student code.

We did offer some limited middle school resources in the past. With our focus on Preschool through 5th grade, we don't plan to expand resources beyond that grade range, and we moved any existing middle school content under the 5th grade section. Therefore, these resources are still available, just not marked as middle school. If you are looking for middle school content, please select 5th grade in the top tool bar, then select the type of content and the subject you are looking for, and you will be able to select it from there.
