Q&A With Ellation Employees

What's the company culture like at Ellation?
Rather disjointed these days since the foreign wings of the company don’t really “get” the culture. It’s sort of like having to explain an inside joke, but over and over again.
Generally a positive, fun environment, although most of the SF office does not look forward to the early or late meetings with the Moldova office.
What benefits does Ellation provide?
Top Employee Response
401k with 3% match, medical/vision/dental (100% for employee, 80% dependents), company stock purchase plan, parental leave, commuter benefits
Generous health benefits, 401k match, commuter benefits, catered lunch 4x per week, pet-friendly office.
What should I wear for an interview at Ellation?
Many people dress up too much. Jeans are totally fine, but wear a nice shirt/top. Tennis shoes or nice shoes, either is okay. It's more important to the team that you are well-prepared, care deeply about the work we're doing, and are a cultural fit.
How can I improve my chances of being hired at Ellation?
Actually download and use our apps before coming to a job interview.
How's the work pace at Ellation?
Mostly fast-paced but it varies by project
What kind of people succeed at Ellation?
Those willing to collaborate with others in any department, those willing to do work outside of their job description, and especially those adept at navigating through petty office politics. However, at an executive level, they’re rewarded more for their ability to divert blame to other groups inside the company. Marketing failed? Well it was really product. Product failed? Well it was really engineering. Engineering failed? Well it was really literally anyone else.
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Ellation?
Hire people who care about the stuff we're doing, not people just in it for the money (and the money isn't all that great anyway).
What do people at Ellation think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
The CEO is a pretty chill guy, but sometimes his decisions have been questionable. General sentiment around the office is that he's a smart businessperson but maybe not the most in-tune with the work the company does (anime/nerd culture stuff).
How's the work life balance at Ellation?
Fairly good, though not perfect. It depends on the team.
How does Ellation make decisions around promotions?
Usually at the discretion of the manager.
How's the vacation policy at Ellation?
Pretty laid back. I think everyone gets 14 days PTO, which is pretty standard, but I've heard some managers look the other way when an employee needs time off and doesn't have saved-up PTO.
Does Ellation have any remote positions?
Yes, some positions are remote across multiple teams.
