  • Ellevest Digital and Premium services are only able to provide investment advisory services to U.S. clients due to varying jurisdiction requirements.

More specifically, any adult U.S. citizen (or U.S. Resident Foreign National) with a permanent U.S. residential address (not a P.O. Box) in the contiguous United States as well as Alaska and Hawaii, a U.S. Social Security Number and a checking or savings account with a U.S. bank. In most states, people 18 years and older are considered adults. In AL and NE, the minimum legal age is 19.

  • Ellevest Premium requires a minimum of $50,000 in net deposits into your Ellevest accounts. If you make a withdrawal that brings your balance below $50,000, you will no longer be eligible for Ellevest Premium, and we will switch you to our Ellevest Digital Service.

Ellevest Premium includes the services as described for Ellevest Digital, plus the following consultation services:

Access to an Ellevest CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP) professional by phone or email for guidance regarding topics such as new home purchase, debt management or preparing to start a family; and

  • To get started with your transfer, click on Move Money at the top of your Ellevest dashboard, select Transfers/Rollovers, and then select IRA.

You tell us your IRA type (Traditional, Roth, or SEP IRA), your current IRA provider (also known as the custodian), your account number, and estimated account balance then we take care of the rest.It is important that you provide us with the correct IRA type, so that we can accurately work with your IRA provider to transfer your current IRA to the right Ellevest Digital or Premium IRA! If you currently have a Roth IRA, your assets will be transferred to an Ellevest Roth IRA. If you currently have a Traditional IRA, your assets will be transferred to an Ellevest Traditional IRA.

If you currently have a SEP IRA, your assets can be transferred to either an Ellevest SEP IRA or an Ellevest traditional IRA. If you are eligible to contribute to a SEP IRA, we recommend that you transfer to a SEP IRA. If you are no longer eligible to contribute to a SEP IRA, we recommend that you transfer to a traditional IRA.

Wedon'tyet offer the ability to convert a Traditional to a Roth (or vice versa).

    next steps.

We start by recommending an investment portfolio so that you can see how we plan to invest the transferred funds. After you have given us approval through esign, we begin the transfer. You will notice that the IRA you are transferring will have a balance of $0 on your dashboard, and your Ellevest Digital or Premium balance will show a pending transfer of that exact amount.

If your current IRA provider supports electronic transfers (well let you know if they dont!), then we will coordinate the transfer directly with them. So, in most situations, you will not need to speak with them or initiate a sale of the assets in the account. Once your current IRA provider sells your investments, they will transfer the cash proceeds to us. We will purchase the recommended ETFs for your Ellevest IRA when we receive the funds. There are no taxes or Ellevest fees associated with this process. However, your current IRA provider may charge you fees during the process of selling your investments and transferring your funds to Ellevest. We recommend asking your current provider for details on any fees you may incur while transferring your IRA.

If your current IRA provider doesnt support electronic transfers, then well let you know right after you esign and send you an email summarizing your

Wedon'toffer partial transfers, so it is important that youdon'tmake any additional contributions to your outside IRA after you have initiated the transfer.

  • Step 1: Request your rollover

To get started with your rollover, click on Move Money at the top of your Ellevest dashboard and then selectTransfers/Rollovers.On the next page youll select the option for 401(k) or 403(b) and enter your account balance.

    Step 2: Upload documents

The next step is to upload copies of both your most recent 401(k) or 403(b) plan statement and disclosure via our Secure Document Uploader. Please note that youll need to be logged in to your Ellevest account to access the page. If you need any assistance finding your plan disclosure document, click here for some helpful tips.

Step 3: Review your detailed analysis

We'll conduct a detailed review of your current 401(k) or 403(b) plan, including what you pay in fees, your investment options, and what advisory services may be available to you. Well email our analysis to you as to whether rolling over your 401(k) or 403(b) balance to an IRA at Ellevest may be in your best interest.

    Step 4: Initiate rollover

If you decide to roll over your 401(k) or 403(b) to Ellevest, youll need to confirm by pressing the Initiate Rollover Now button in the email containing your analysis and personalized recommendation (see Step 4). This will bring you to our site where you can review our recommended investment portfolio and electronically sign our Client Agreement.

    Step 5: Call current provider

After you e-sign, the last step is for you to call your current 401(k) or 403(b) provider to initiate the rollover. When you call, state that you want to do a direct rollover of your 401(k) or 403(b) account to an IRA at another provider and ask them to send a check to Folio Investments with the instructions below:

Check should be made payable to Folio Investments FBO [Full Name] [IRA Type] [Folio Account Number]*

    Check should be sent to:

Folio Investing8180 Greensboro Drive, 8th FloorMcLean, VA 22102

Its very important that the check is made out to Folio Investments, and not you directly,to ensure that the transaction is considered a direct rollover. Additionally, if your providerwon'tsend the check to Folio directly, then youll need to ask them to send it to you; when you receive the check, youll have to send it to Folio.

*To find your account number, please log into your Ellevest dashboard and click on the user icon in the top right-hand corner. Then youll click on Login and scroll down to the bottom of the page:

Step 6: Sit back and relax!

Once Folio receives the check, well invest the funds in the recommended portfolio for your Ellevest IRA. Well send you an email to let you know that your 401(k) or 403(b) rollover has been completed, and youll see your retirement accounts on your Ellevest Digital or Premium dashboard.

  • Customized portfolios. Other advisors offer either a handful of portfolios, or an overwhelming inventory of products. Ellevest Digital and Premium have hundreds of unique portfolios, that are tailored to womens specific goals and timelines.

A different take on risk. We don't ask you questions about your risk tolerance to determine what your portfolio should be. Instead we determine your capacity for risk, based upon the goals you choose, and the timeline for those goals, and customize portfolios to each of those goals.

A goals-based approach. You can invest in multiple goals at one time, such as a down payment on a house or starting your own business. Ellevest looks at your profile, goals and timeline, then recommends goal-specific portfolios, target amounts, savings, and more for a completely customized investment plan. You can then explore changes to any aspect of your plan and see the tradeoffs you can make among goals.

Personalized Investment Plans. We provide deposit, savings, timeline, and portfolio recommendations for achieving each of your goals. The projections we show you are based upon these recommendations, as well as personal information such as your salary, growth in your salary based upon a gender-specific, education based salary curve, and your assets.

Higher likelihood of meeting your goals. We aim for a higher likelihood of getting you to your goal in 70% of market scenarios. Some other digital advisors may show higher forecasts, but those forecast only have a 50% estimated chance of achievement... so average or slightly better than average.

Ongoing management and alerts.Ellevest monitors your portfolio on a regular basis and rebalances to your target allocation as needed to help you reach your goals. Our portfolio recommendations generally get more conservative as you approach the end of your timeline; this helps reduce the chance of losses due to market movements. For retirement goals however, we may adjust your portfolio to a more aggressive allocation to increase your chances of achieving your goal. If you fall off track, you can also use our Goal Planner to determine what changes you can make to get back on track.

  • At Ellevest, our objective is to help you reach your investment goals. Period. Thats very different from general investing, which is usually focused on selecting investments to outperform some market index or benchmark.

With goal-based investing, the only objective is to determine the combination of investments together with savings that help you achieve your goals. Whether or not you beat a market index is irrelevant.

  • If youdon'thave a goal in mind, thats okay. We recommend starting with our Build Wealth goal*, which is designed to help you grow wealth over time. • At Ellevest Digital or Premium, we create a personalized investmentplan to help you achieve as many of your goals as possible, in your priority order, given the financial accounts you've told us about together with a realistic savings amount. The goals we believe you can achieve with these resources are shown in your investmentplan, and those that are not currently achievable are greyed out. You can customize your plan by reprioritizing your goals, and changing your targets, timeline, savings and deposit amounts.

If all of your goals are greyed out in your investment plan, please reach out to the Ellevest Help Desk by calling 1-844-ELL-7100 or emailing us at [email protected]. You should always have at least one goal that you can open today!

  • How does Ellevest Digital/Premium's standard for on-track/off-track compare to what Ive seen at other companies?

On Track means you have a 70% likelihood of meeting your target dollar amount in the desired time frame, or better. We calculate this likelihood by simulating how your portfolio and savings would perform under many different economic scenarios (for example: poor market conditions, high inflation, low interest rates, and more). In 70% of these scenarios, youre able to meet or exceed your goal. Off Track means that you have a less than 70% likelihood of achieving your target dollar amount. It doesnt mean you get zero, it just means you may end up with less.

Some other digital advisors may show higher forecasts, but those forecasts only have a 50% estimated chance of achievement, so slightly better than average.

If you are eligible for a promotion credit by coming to Ellevest through a special link, your credit will automatically be applied.

If you were given a gift code, youll enter the code to get your credit when you schedule your first deposit.

Before we can apply your credit, you have to set up and make a deposit into at least one investing goal. In either case, credits can take up to 90 days to process from when your first deposit completes.

Credits are applied to your highest-priority funded goal. If its a taxable account (not an IRA), the credit is applied as a one-time deposit and youll see it as a pending transaction in your goal.

If the highest-priority goal is an IRA, youll receive an Amazon gift card with the amount of the promotion.

  • At Ellevest Digital or Premium, we use Monte Carlo simulation - a forward looking, computer-based calculation - to determine how your investment plan would perform under hundreds of different economic scenarios. In 70% of those scenarios, you are projected to achieve your goal or better, whether you invest in a core or Ellevest Impact Portfolio at Ellevest Digital/Premium. The other 30% of the time, you are projected to reach an amount less than your goal.

Why do you select a forecast of 70%?

We believe that a 70% likelihood provides you with a comfortable level of confidence that you will be able to achieve your financial goals with your investment plan. Some other digital advisors may show higher forecasts but those forecasts only have a 50% estimated chance of achievement... so average or slightly better than average. At Ellevest Digital/Premium, we want to help you achieve your goals with a higher level of confidence.

What if I adjust my risk?

Increasing your portfolio risk may lead to higher return outcomes, but at the cost of greater risk. That means that if markets do poorly, you might end up with much less money and if markets do very well, you may earn much more. Decreasing your portfolio risk of your portfolio means there will potentially be less variation in your possible outcomes. Your portfolio may return less if markets do very well, but also lose less if markets do poorly.

Why notalways increase my risk if it has the potential of more money?

Increasing your portfolio risk has the potential for increasing your portfolio returns, but that comes at the cost of incurring more risk. That means that your potential for returns is higher, but so is your potential for losses.

  • We believe that the investments we have selected represent broad and diverse coverage of the asset class(es) they represent. We select securities that have low total holding costs, are highly liquid (so it is easy to sell for withdrawals or rebalancing), are tax efficient (which improves your after-tax returns), and have low tracking error (how closely the fund follows its benchmark). For our Ellevest Impact Portfolios, we seek investments with similar characteristics that offer financial returns as well as social returns by advancing women.

We thought carefully not only about picking individual ETFs and mutual funds, but also about how these funds would work together effectively in the context of your total portfolio. We have designed this mix of investments - to provide you with a portfolio to help you reach your goals. For example, rather than choose 3 individual ETFs to cover large, mid, and small cap US equities, we chose a single ETF that provides very low cost, broad, diversified exposure to all three, and combined that with a smaller allocation to a mid-cap ETF. Together, this combination we believe may result in the desired asset class exposures, but at lower cost and higher tax efficiency.

  • There are two parts to withdrawing all your money from a goal.

First, we initiate a withdrawal of the funds that are currently in your account with Folio Investments, the broker-dealer and custodian for your account. Folio will sell all securities in your portfolio, and within about seven business days, the money is transferred to your linked bank account.

Second, we keep an eye out for any new payments that are posted to that account, in the form of interest, dividends, and capital gains distributions. This money hits the account in the form of cash (aka money thats not invested).

Because of the payment schedule, its possible for one of these payments to be posted afteryou'vealready withdrawn your money from the account. So when that happens, we go ahead and transfer the money to the bank account thats linked with your Ellevest account.

  • The answer to that depends on your goals and your personal financial situation. Most of the time, it depends on the debts interest rate. If you have debt with an interest rate over 10%, we typically recommend waiting to invest and paying that off as quickly as possible. If the interest rate is between 5% and 10%, it is usually best although not quite as pressing to pay the debt off first. And if your interest rate is below 5%, we typically recommend paying the minimum payments on that debt and putting any extra money in your budget toward investing. The long-term returns that have historically been available by investing are likely to outweigh the cost of that interest. Read more in this article or read about good debt and bad debt in this article.

One more thing: If you have a 401(k) employer match available to you at work, we typically recommend investing enough in that 401(k) to take full advantage of the match, even if you have high-interest-rate debt. ( Heres an article with more information employer matches.)

We started the Refer a Friend program so we could help women take control of their financial future by becoming investors. We want to encourage everyone to overcome money taboos and share what can happen when you invest. (Kind of important.)

And so we gotta say it: We believe it is against this spirit to promote the program to third parties for any purposes other than encouraging them to become investors with Ellevest. For example, it is not intended for people whose primary motivation is to collect signup or referral bonuses.

That means we reserve the right to change or withhold payment of compensation to you if we determine the referral was made under wrongful or fraudulent circumstances, or that your participation is against the spirit of the program. You can read the referral agreement here.

And finally: Wecan'tpay you if you give incomplete or inaccurate information. Some (but not all) examples of incomplete or inaccurate information: your current address, your Social Security number, and an incorrect link to your bank.

  • The custodian for your account, Folio, processes client withdrawal requests for taxable investment accounts and the Emergency Fund goal generally within 7 business days. When you confirm the amount that you would like to withdraw, we sync up with Folio so that they can initiate the transfer to your bank account this typically takes 1-2 business days. Folio then places an order to raise those funds by selling securities in your portfolio. It takes 3 business days for the trades to settle (Trade Day + 2 business days) which is the settlement period mandated by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Once the trades are complete, the funds will be transferred to your outside checking or savings account which generally takes 1-2 business days. This same timing is also applied to withdrawing the funds from your Emergency Fund goal. For more information on the FDIC and the protections in place for your cash, please see this FAQ.The IRA withdrawal process requires additional steps due to the potential tax penalties for early withdrawals and may take longer to complete. • Cash held in banks insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, an independent agency of the US government, and not by the Securities Investor Protection Corporation ( SIPC ). The value of FDIC cash is guaranteed, meaning if you deposit $100, you are entitled to your full $100 regardless of what happens to the bank itself.

  • The Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) is a non-profit corporation that provides account protection to customers of registered brokerages. That group of protected brokerages includes Folio, the broker-dealer that provides execution, clearing, custody, and other brokerage-related services for Ellevest Digital and Premium clients, as well as Schwab, the broker-dealer for Ellevest Private Wealth clients.

SIPC insurance doesnt protect the value of your investments; it protects your ownership of the investments themselves. For example, if you purchase 10 shares of a particular stock for a total price of $100, the SIPC does not guarantee that you will get $100 back (if it were guaranteed with no risk, it wouldnt be investing) but it does guarantee that you will still own those 10 shares if the brokerage fails, whateverthey'reworth at the time.

If a brokerage fails, SIPC will cover losses up to $500,000 (with a limit of $250,000 for cash losses). If you have multiple accounts, the $500,000 SIPC protection does not apply to each account. For example, if you have a taxable investment account and an IRA, SIPC will provide $500,000 maximum in coverage for both accounts combined.

If you select a full account transfer, your entire account at your current provider will transfer to Ellevest Digital or Premium. If you select a partial account transfer, youll select specific securities from your account at your current provider to transfer. Well transfer all shares of the securities you selected.

To get started with your transfer, click on Move Money at the top of the page and then select Investment Account.

Youll tell us the name of your provider, the estimated balance of your transfer, and which Ellevest goal youd like to transfer to. If youre only transferring part of your account, you can select which securities youd like to transfer and well transfer all shares of the securities you selected.

We start by recommending an investment portfolio so that you can see how we plan to invest the transferred funds. After you have given us approval through esign, we begin the transfer.

Ellevest will take care of submitting a transfer request for you! We will transfer the securities in your account through ACATS. In most situations, you will not need to speak with your current firm or initiate a sale of the assets in the account. If there are any updates along the way, youll hear from our Concierge Team.

Once your funds transfer over, well invest them into your customized Ellevest Digital or Premium portfolio. When we receive the securities from your investment account, well automatically sell any positions thataren'tpart of the portfolio that we recommended for you. You can see the list of all exchange-traded funds ( ETFs ) and mutual funds in the Ellevest goal portfolios here.

Selling the securities after the transfer to form your Ellevest goal portfolio may result in capital gains and/or losses, and you may owe short-term and/or long-term capital gain taxes on any realized gains not offset by losses.

There are no Ellevest fees associated with this process, but your current provider may charge you fees during the process of selling your investments and transferring your funds to Ellevest Digital or Premium. We recommend asking your current provider for details on any fees you may incur in the transfer process.

  • You can fund your Ellevest Digital/Premium account three different ways:

    Link a bank account

This is the quickest way to fund your Ellevest account, as it enables you to transfer funds from your bank account to your Ellevest account. Onceyou've linked a bank account, you can transfer funds either by a one-time deposit or through recurring auto-deposits.

To initiate a one-time deposit, head to your dashboard and click on the teal Invest Now or Transfer Money button at the top of your goal. A dropdown menu will appear; select Make a Deposit to transfer money.

To set up auto-deposits, head to your dashboard and click on the teal Invest Now or Transfer Money button at the top of your goal. Select Edit Auto Deposit from the dropdown menu to schedule your recurring auto-deposits on a twice-a-month, monthly, or quarterly basis.

    Transfer an IRA

If you have a traditional, Roth, or SEP IRA account outside of Ellevest, you can move it over. First, add a Retirement goal to your account. (If you already have one, great!) Next, head to your dashboard and click on the teal Transfer Money button at the top of your Retirement goal, and select Transfer IRA from the dropdown menu to start the IRA transfer process.

    Roll over a 401(k) or 403(b)

If you have an old 401(k) or 403(b) from a previous employer, you can roll it over to an Ellevest IRA. Click on the teal Transfer Money button in your Retirement goal, and then select Roll Over. You can read about the rollover process in more detail here.

    Transfer a taxable investment account

If you have an investment account outside of Ellevest, you can move it over. Click on Move Money at the top of the page, and then select Investment Account to start the transfer process. Note that the transfer could incur capital gains for you so we recommend that you check with a tax professional if you have questions on what the tax implications might be.

If you have any questions or need help funding your Ellevest account, shoot us an email at [email protected].

  • Why do I need to link my bank account?

Linking your bank account allows you to transfer funds between your linked bank account and your Ellevest Digital or Premium account so that you can fund your selected goals and begin investing!

How do I change or add my linked bank account?

At Ellevest Digital or Premium, there are three ways to link your bank account, details below:

Linking manually through Folio Investments with test deposits

Linking through Quovo, a third party service provider engaged by Ellevest, to help you link with your bank login information

Linking through Quovo with your bank login information and test deposits

At this time, you can only link one bank account to each of your accounts with Ellevest. If you are linking more than one type of account (such as your investment account, or traditional, Roth, or SEP IRA), you will need to validate each of your accounts separately (even if you are using the same bank account).

To keep your account safe, bank links cannot be changed frequently, so please make sure you are linking the correct account! If you need to change your bank account soon after setting up your bank link, account ownership verification will be required.

    1. Linking Manually Through Folio

Once your account opening is complete, Folio allows you to link your bank account with test deposits.

To begin the process, click on Investing in the top left-hand corner and select Linked Bank from the dropdown, and click on Connect Bank or Change Bank.

Under the name of your bank, select Link the bank manually.

Folio will send two small test deposits to your bank account, followed by a withdrawal of those amounts. Use the two deposits to validate your account in the Ellevest push-down below.

Once you have confirmed your test deposit amounts, your bank account will be validated and your account information will appear on the Settings page for your goal:

If you are linking more than one type of account, you will need to validate each of your accounts separately (even if you are using the same bank account). For example, if you are linking your bank account to your investment account for your Home goal as well as to your Roth IRA for your Retirement goal, you will need to validate each set of test deposits separately.

2.Linking Through Quovo with Your Bank Login Information

Quovo allows you to link your bank account through your bank login information rather than through test deposits. If Quovo does not support your current bank, you will need to link your account manually using the Folio test deposit process outlined above.

To begin the process, click on Investing in the top left-hand corner and select Linked Bank from the dropdown, and click on Connect Bank or Change Bank.

Enter your bank name to see if your bank is available for Quovos services:

    3. If available, a login to your bank account will appear prompting you to enter your login credentials.

    4. If you hold multiple accounts with your bank, youll have the option to select the account youd like to link.

    5. Once Quovo has validated your account information, this information will appear on the Settings page for your goal:

    3. Linking Through Quovo with Your Bank Login Information and Test Deposits

Some banks require test deposit verification in addition to login authorization. We've got you covered! Simply provide your account information and we'll take care of the rest. If Quovo does not support your current bank account, you will need to link your account manually using the Folio process outlined above.

Enter your bank name to see if your bank is available for Quovos services:

If available, a login to your bank account will appear prompting you to enter your login credentials.

    3. If Quovo cannot verify your account with just your account login information, youll be asked to provide your account routing number and account number.

Quovo will then send two small deposits, both under $1, to your account to validate your account ownership. The deposits will appear under your account transactions from the merchant Quovo. The deposits are yours to keep and Quovo will not be making any withdrawals. There is nothing you have to do to validate the test deposits. We will email you when your account has been validated. This can take 2-7 business days.

Once Quovo has validated your bank account, your linked account information will appear on the Settings page for your goal:

  • Each provider posts their plan disclosure in a slightly different spot, but typically you can find it under a heading similar to Plan Documents. Some providers call the form an annual disclosure document, others a participant fee disclosure or some variation of the two.

If youre having trouble finding the document on your providers website, you can always give them a call and ask to be pointed in the right direction. Ask for the document that lists the investment options available to you in your plan and your plans fees.
