He served as General Counsel at Repsol Oil & Gas Canada Inc. since November 2008. He served as Corporate Director of Zenas Energy Corp. and Temple Energy Inc. He was a Partner at Bennett Jones LLP since May 1992 and also a leader of its international practice group. Mr. Rooney served as Secretary of Blizzard Energy Inc. He has over 25 years of legal and commercial experience in the oil and gas industry. His activities involve international and Canadian acquisitions and dispositions of oil, natural gas and other mineral assets as well as corporate acquisitions. His practice also includes financings, mergers, corporate reorganizations, power projects and the negotiation and preparation of contracts relating to mineral exploration, development, product operations and commodity sales. Mr. Rooney serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Engineered Drilling Solutions. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Madagascar Oil Limited. He has been a Director of Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., since 2017. He serves as a Director of Ferus Gas Industries Trust, Bennett Jones LLP and Temple Exploration Inc. He served as an Independent Director of Athabasca Oil Corporation since May 4, 2016. He served as a Director of Repsol Oil & Gas Canada Inc. since May 8, 2015 until May 1, 2016; Cordero Energy Inc. since April 27, 2005 and Gentry Resources Ltd. since May 2007. He served as an Independent Director of MGM Energy Corp. from January 11, 2007 to July 30, 2013. He served as Director of Temple Energy Inc. Mr. Rooney served as a Director of M.L. Cass Petroleum Corporation from June 1998 to March 2001, Tidal Resources Inc. from October 1996 to June 2003, Madagascar Oil Limited since June 6, 2006, Mission Resources Corp. since December 2001, Resolute Energy Inc. since March 29, 1999 and Blizzard Energy Inc., since December 19, 2002. He served as a Director of Zorin Exploration Ltd. He is a Member of the Calgary Bar Association, the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Petroleum Law Foundation, the Association of Internal Petroleum Negotiators and the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation. Mr. Rooney holds an LLB from the University of Western Ontario in 1983.
