Subscription Plan Renewal Information
Identifying the Administrator:If you purchased a subscription and are the primary contact for the product registrations, you are the License Administrator and can access the renewal information through your Extensis.com account.
Automatic Renewal:Annual TeamSync subscriptions purchased through the Extensis.com store renew automatically. The credit card is charged at the end of each subscription term per the renewal agreement accepted in the Extensis Store. Notifications are emailed to the License Administrator prior to the renewal date. Additionally, a receipt will be sent once the card on file has been charged.
Manual Renewal:TeamSync subscriptions that do not renew automatically can be renewed manually as early as 30 days prior to expiration. . To avoid potentially losing access to your software or services, it is important to renew your subscription before the expiration date.
Expired Subscriptions: If your subscription has expired within the last 30 days, you can still renew manually from the My Products Page by selecting Suitcase TeamSync, then Renew Subscription and complete the purchase.
Declined Card Payments:If there is an issue with the card, Extensis will notify the License Administrator by email. I've installed Universal Type Server version 7.0.2 and I need to enter my serial numbers.
Environment
This article applies to Universal Type Server, version 7.0.2 and later, on all supported operating systems.
Resolution
Starting with version 7.0.2, Universal Type Server no longer uses serial numbers to activate the product. Instead, UTS retrieves the product licensing information from your Extensis account.
Make sure UTS can connect to cwsg.extensis.com on port 443. Once UTS has been activated, the server does not have to remain connected to the internet.
Activating Universal Type Server
Note: You can watch a video of the new activation process: Activating Universal Type Server 7.0.
Log in to the User Management Application with the default 'administrator' account. Click on Administration. In the Licenses pane, select "Activate Universal Type Server".
https://www.extensis.com/contact-us-form
Enter the email address and password of the Extensis account thats owns the UTS licenses. If you don't know which account owns the licenses, contact Customer Service at .
The Administration panel will display the email address, the end of the support maintenance period, and any additional features that have been activated.
Entering demo serial numbers
If you want to try out Universal Type Server, you can request a demo serial number to use the product for a limited time.
Note: Universal Type Server version 7.0.2 and later will only accept demo serial numbers; serial numbers used in earlier versions of Universal Type Server 7 will not be accepted.
In the Licenses pane, select "Trial Universal Type Server".
Enter the demo serial number and click Submit. If you have demo serial numbers for other features such as UTS Enterprise Edition or Universal Type Core Client, you can enter them all at once, one serial number per line.
The Licenses pane will display the expiration dates for the demo serial numbers you have entered.
To remove the demo serial numbers so you can activate UTS, click Remove.

We've moved, decommissioned, or migrated our Domain Controller and need to update the configuration in Portfolio's Directory Services
Environment
This article covers Portfolio 3 on all supported environments
Solution
In order to change the configuration in Directory Services you will have to remove the current configuration and re-create your mappings. For a guide on setting up Directory Services in Portfolio, please see our Administration Guide. We recommend the following before proceeding:
Take screenshots of your mappings in each Catalog. This will make re-applying them much easier
Make sure you have a clean and healthy Portfolio backup should you need to revert to your previous configuration
Wait to decommission the old DC, otherwise you may not be able to view your mappings before removing them
During this process users added through Active Directory will be temporarily converted to native user accounts. Once the new configuration is in place and the mappings re-created, the users should convert back in LDAP users (as long as their AD shortname has not changed.)
If you run into trouble with this process or have additional questions please contact technical support

A permissions issue or a file format error, similar to the images below will be encountered when trying to open a document or file from Microsoft Word, Power Point or Excel.
https://help.extensis.com/hc/en-us/articles/115010658648-Font-will-not-activate-or-activates-for-a-brief-moment
Environment
This has been seen happening on multiple versions of macOS and various versions of MS Office.
Solution
Typically, this is noticed when duplicate fonts are activated at the same time as fonts in your system folder. Microsoft typically installs its own fonts in the system folder for use in its applications.
Please try the following steps:
Close all open Microsoft applications.
Disable/deactivate all fonts in your Suitcase Libraries (Not the system fonts).
Once completed, try opening the document(s) again.
Activating fonts at the same time will result in a short or brief activation period. Please use the following link for more information.
If the above step does not work, please try clearing your font cache. This can be a contributing factor when it has not been cleaned/cleared. You can use Suitcase Fusion toClean Font Caches. From Suitcase Fusion's File menu selectClean Font Caches. This will purge your system font caches. Once this is complete, restart your Mac.

When Portfolio ingests an asset, it creates a .jpg preview in it's designated preview folder. When the preview folder is located in a folder that's being watched and synced in a catalog, the process is repeated in an infinite loop (until asset count or drive space are maxed out)
For example:
What would essentially occur is:
Portfolio sees a new asset to catalog>A preview is generated for the asset>Portfolio sees the newly generated .jpg in the preview folder>A preview is generated for the preview of the original asset>Process repeats infinitely
To fix this:
1. Stop Portfolio
2. Move the preview folder to a new location
3. Change the preview location in the Portfolio Admin Portal
4. Restart Portfolio
If you run into trouble with this process or have additional questions please contact

How do I set up Kerberos authentication for single sign-on (SSO) in Portfolio 3.x?
Solution
To configure Portfolio 3.x for single-sign-on for connections to Portfolio Web, the following must be true:
Portfolio is installed on a supported version of Microsoft Windows Server
You have a Portfolio SSO license key and have entered it into the Licenses pane of Portfolio Administration
Portfolio is bound to an Active Directory domain with Kerberos v5 enabled and configured
The Portfolio user account is an Active Directory user
The user is logged into a computer that is bound to the Active Directory domain with the same user account
If these conditions are met then a user can connect to Portfolio with a supported web browser and Portfolio Web will use Kerberos to log in, bypassing the login window.
Setting up Kerberos authentication
Create a service principal name
Kerberos requires a service principal name (SPN) for Portfolio; in Active Directory, SPNs are tied to a user account or service account. You can use the same Active Directory account that the Portfolio services run under. In order for Kerberos authentication to work, the service account must have a non-expiring password.
To create an SPN for Portfolio, you must know the fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) for the server Portfolio runs on (portfolio.example.org). This cannot be an alias; if you use nslookup on the servers IP address, it should return the canonical name for the server.
The setspn command is used on the domain controller to create the SPN. The examples below will use a service account name of EXAMPLE\portfoliosvc and a FQDN of portfolio.example.org
Open a Command Prompt window
Enter the following command and press Enter: setspn -S HTTP/portfolio.example.org EXAMPLE\portofliosvc
Configure Portfolio for single sign-on
Log into Portfolio Administration
Go to Global Settings > Single Sign-on Credentials
Enter the username and password for the service account
Click Apply
Configure web browsers to use single sign-on
We support using Kerberos authentication in the following browsers:
Google Chrome for Mac OS and Windows
Mozilla Firefox for Mac OS and Windows
Safari for Mac OS
Internet Explorer for Windows (versions 9 and 10 only)
Microsoft Edge
Google Chrome for Mac OS
If you are logged in as an administrator on your Mac, you can create a preferences .plist file to specify the Portfolio server for single sign-on in Google Chrome.
Open the Terminal application. Enter the following command and press Enter; replace portfolio.example.org with the FQDN for your Portfolio server.
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.google.Chrome.plist AuthServerWhitelist "portfolio.example.org"
Enter your password when prompted.
If you are not an administrator, or want to create a .plist file to be deployed to multiple machines, the following command will create the file on your Desktop. You can place it into /Library/Preferences/ or use Remote Desktop or similar network management tool to push the configuration file to more than one Mac.
defaults write ~/Desktop/com.google.Chrome.plist AuthServerWhitelist "portfolio.example.org"
Once the file has been placed in /Library/Preferences/, restart Chrome.
Google Chrome for Windows
You can create a registry entry to specify the Portfolio server for single sign-on in Google Chrome.
Open a Command Prompt with administrator privileges. Enter the following command and press Enter; replace portfolio.example.org with the FQDN for your Portfolio server.
reg add HKLM\Software\Policies\Google\Chrome\ /v AuthServerWhitelist /t REG_SZ /d "portfolio.example.org"
You can push the same registry key forWindows PCs on your domain using Group Policy. Once the registry setting takes effect, restart Chrome.
Firefox for Mac OS and Windows
Open a browser window. In the address bar, type about:config and then hit Enter.
Firefox will display a warning similar to the one below. Click I accept the risk.
In the search text box, type network.negotiate-auth and hit Enter.
Right-click network.negotiate-auth.allow-non-fqdn and select Toggle to change the value to true.
Right-click network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris and enter the FQDN for the Portfolio server.
Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge
Open the Control Panel and select Internet Options. In Internet Properties, click on the Security tab and select the Local Intranet zone.
Click the Sites button. If Include all sites that bypass the proxy server is unchecked, uncheck Automatically detect intranet network and click the checkbox.
Click the Advanced button. Enter the FQDN for the Portfolio server and click Add, then click Close. Close the Internet Properties dialog.
Safari
No special configuration is needed for Safari.

We have however found no issues thus far with Portfolio Server and Desktop client version 3.6.2. If you find that you're seeing issues with this version and Mac OS X 10.15 please feel free to submit a ticket to tech support so that we may analyze the problem and report it back to our development staff.
We appreciate your patience while we work to provide the best possible support for your products. Announcements for future official compatibility can be found on our release notes page as they become available.

We have catalogs from Portfolio 11 or older in the .fdb format that are having trouble running in Portfolio 3.x.x
Environment
This issue can occur on Portfolio 3 installed on any supported operating system
Cause
The previous format for Portfolio's catalogs have since undergone considerable upgrades and changes over the years. Catalogs in the .fdb format that weren't converted in Portfolio 1.x.x can exhibit difficulties in Portfolio 3.x.x
Resolution
For the best results we suggest starting from scratch and rebuilding the catalog by hand. While we understand it can be a big ask, ultimately it's the cleanest and most guaranteed way to move into a modern Portfolio catalog. It is possible to purchase time with our Integration and Consulting Service team to assist with this process.
The other option is to create a template from the .fdb catalog and create a new catalog from that template. Keep in mind that this will not bring over galleries or watchfolders to the new catalog. If the issue persists after using this method we are going to ask that you rebuild the catalog from the ground up.
Creating the Template:
Login to the Portfolio Admin Portal
Navigate to the Catalogs Tab
Highlight the .fdb catalog
Select "Save Catalog Template..."
Name the Template and click Save
Before Creating the New Catalog:
Remove the watchfolder from the old catalog (do not check "Remote Assets from Catalog")
Create the new catalog:
In the Catalog Tab Select "Add New Catalog"
Click the drop down menu next to "Catalog Template"
Select the template you created from the .fdb catalog
Setup the catalog as normal
From there you'll need to setup the new catalog with the correct watchfolder(s) and re-create your galleries. Once you're sure the new catalog is functional and everything has been moved over you can remove the .fdb catalog.

This article describes the steps required to move UTS from one server to another. Since UTS backups are cross-platform, it is possible to move from Mac to Windows and vice-versa. For the sake of brevity, instructions for configuring SSO (Single Sign On) and external databases are excluded.
Solution
The following steps will refer to an 'old server' and a 'new server'. The former refers to the system being migrated from and the latter refers to the destination. It is recommended that you perform this procedure at a time when there will be little or no demand for UTS, since it will be unavailable during parts of this procedure.
On the old server:
Log into UTS Administration
Under 'Status', check the 'Product Version' and make a note of it. The new server will need to have this version of UTS or newer
Click on 'Backups' under 'Datastore' in the left column
Click on 'Backup now'. UTS will start making a backup in the location listed under 'Backup destination' in the same window
When UTS is finished creating a backup, go to the folder where the backup is stored. The default location is in the/data/backups folder in the same directory that UTS is installed in
Copy the newest backup to a convenient location on the new server
On the new server:
Install the same version or newer of UTS as was on the old server. You can get installers by going here
Once the installation is complete, activate your UTS 7 installation by following the instructions at https://help.extensis.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018517534-Entering-serial-numbers-into-Universal-Type-Server-version-7-0-2-or-later
Now it's time to restore your backup
In UTS Server Administration, click on 'Backups' under 'Datastore'
Enter the full path, including the filename, to the tar backup you intend to restore.
Example paths:
Mac: /Applications/Extensis/Universal Type Server/data/backups/2011_03_05T00_38_53_328Z.tar
Windows: C:\Program Files\Extensis\Universal Type Server\data\backups\2011_03_05T00_38_53_328Z.tar
Click on the 'Restore Database' button
You will be asked to confirm that you want to do this. Click on the 'OK' button if you are ready to proceed
Once the database has finished restoring, log into UTS User Management Administration and verify that things have restored correctly. If everything looks good, you can start letting your users connect to the newly installed UTS.

After updating the OS to Catalina 10.15, I can no longer activate or add fonts to Suitcase Fusion
Environment
This issue occurs on Mac OS X 10.15 using Suitcase Fusion version 18.x.x or 19.x.x. If you're not sure of what version you're using, please see this article.
Cause
As of Mac OS X 10.15 32-bit applications are no longer allowed to run or function. Though Mac OS X lists Suitcase Fusion version 18.x.x and 19.x.x as being 64-bit applications, they aren't fully 64-bit compliant. The first Suitcase version to achieve this was version 20.0.0.
Resolution
You will need to purchase an upgrade to Suitcase Fusion version 20.0.7. You can see upgrade pricing and information here.

When I try to open Suitcase Fusion 9 for Mac OS, I get the following error message:
How to Edit the Hosts File in Mac OS X with Terminal
Environment
This article applies to Suitcase Fusion 9 on all supported versions of Mac OS.
Resolution
The default Mac OS hosts file may be missing one or more entries. The default hosts file looks like:
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
Replace the hosts file
For Mac OS X 10.14 and previous:
You can download a default Mac OS hosts file and a helper script from http://cs.us.extensis.com/HostsFile/RepairHostsFile.zip.
NOTE: The script must be run from a Mac OS Administrator account.
Unzip RepairHostsFile.zip
Open the RepairHostsFile folder
Double-click the RepairHostsFile.command file
Enter your Mac OS password when asked
You may see bullets, key icons, or nothing as you type your Mac OS password into the Terminal window, depending on the version of Mac OS you are using. This is normal. Restart the computer afterwards.
For Mac OS X 10.15:
Download the RepairHostsFile zip here: http://cs.us.extensis.com/HostsFile/RepairHostsFile.zip
Unzip RepairHostsFile.zip
In Finder, navigate to Go>Go to Folder
Copy and paste the following: /etc/
Hit Enter
Drag the "hosts" file from the unzipped RepairHostsFile folder into the /etc/ folder
Select "Replace" when prompted
Cause
Suitcase Fusion uses the hosts file to find and connect to the type core using the loopback address (localhost). If the hosts file is not present, or the entry for 127.0.0.1 points to a name other than localhost, you will see the error message displayed above.
If the hosts file has been modified, it may be removed when upgrading to a new version of Mac OS. Third-party applications or network utilities may incorrectly change the localhost entry as well. For more information, see .
