Mr. Stephen R. Avera has been the Chief Legal Counsel of Flowers Foods, Inc. since November 17, 2017. Mr. Avera served as an Executive Vice President of Flowers Foods, Inc. since May 2008 until November 17, 2017 and served as its Secretary and General Counsel since February 2002. Mr. Avera is responsible for all the legal affairs of Flowers Foods. In addition, he has responsibility for Flowers Foods Inc.'s governmental affairs. He served as Senior Vice President of Flowers Foods Inc., from September 8, 2004 to May 2008. He served as Associate and Assistant General counsel of Flowers Industries from February 1986 to July 1998. He joined Flowers Foods' predecessor, Flowers Industries, in 1986 as an Associate and Assistant General Counsel. He has four-year legal career as a Captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps. He served as Vice President and General Counsel of Flowers Bakeries, LLC from July 1998 to February 2002. In 2001, he took on the additional responsibilities of general counsel for Flowers' frozen and specialty operation. Mr. Avera has been a Director of Tasty Baking Company since May 20, 2011. He is a Member of the State Bars of Alabama, Georgia and Florida and a member of the American Corporate Counsel Association. Mr. Avera holds a Bachelor's Degree and a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
