Dr. John Faiz Kayyem, also known as Jon, Ph.D., founded GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. in August 2010 and has been its Senior Vice President of Research & Development since June 2013. Dr. Kayyem served as the Chief Executive Officer at Osmetech, Inc. He served as Chief Scientific Officer of GenMark Diagnostics, Inc., from August 2010 to June 2013. He served as co-interim Chief Executive Officer at GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. since July 2009 and its Chief Executive Officer from August 2009 to August 2010. He served as President at GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. from August 2009 to August 2010 and its Chief Scientific Officer from August 2010 to June 2013. Dr. Kayyem served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Osmetech plc since August 28, 2009. Dr. Kayyem co-founded Efficacy Capital, LLC and served as its Managing Partner until September 2009. He served as Co-interim Chief Executive Officer of Osmetech plc since July, 2009. His research in molecular and cellular biology, genetics and DNA analysis have been focused on the development of powerful tools for the emerging genomics field. In 1995, he founded Clinical Micro Sensors, an operating subsidiary of Motorola Inc., to commercialize technical innovations he developed while at The California Institute of Technology. He served as the Chief Technical Officer of Clinical Micro Sensors Inc. and left Clinical Micro in 2004. His other works have involved the development of new MRI contrast agents and studies of DNA using a novel chemical force microscopy system. Dr. Kayyem served as Non-Executive Chairman of Osmetech plc from January 1, 2009 to July 2009. He served as Non-Executive Chairman at GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. from January 2009 to July 2009. He served as Vice Chairman of GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. since August 2009. He serves as a Member of Technology Advisory Team at QuantumSphere, Inc. He serves as a Director of Calimmune, Inc. He serves as Member of Advisory Board at Inhibrx LLC. He served as a Director of GenMark Diagnostics, Inc. from March 2010 to May 2011. Dr. Kayyem served as a Director of Quantumsphere Inc. Dr. Kayyem remained at Caltech as a Senior Research Fellow until 1995 before launching his own venture. Dr. Kayyem is a Caltech Associate and a Fellow of The Huntington. He has served on the Board of Trustees of Caltech and of Polytechnic School. He served on the Board of Trustees of The Art Center College of Design. Since 1997, Dr. Kayyem has been awarded thirty-one U.S. patents in nucleic acid detection technology, all licensed to or owned by Clinical Micro Sensors. While at the California Institute of Technology, Dr. Kayyem received several research awards including the Beckman Institute Research Fellow in Biology, the Helen G. and Arthur McCallum Fellow and the Office of Naval Research Predoctoral Fellowship. Dr. Kayyem is a distinguished scientist with many research publications to his credit in such respected journals as the Journal of Organic Chemistry, Journal of American Chemical Society, Journal of Cell Biology, European Journal of Biochemistry and Chemistry and Biology. Most of these publications address issues of electron flow in organic molecules. Dr. Kayyem graduated from Harvard (now Harvard-Westlake) School in 1981. He then attended Yale University and received combined Master and Bachelor of Sciences in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry in 1985. He went on to graduate school at The California Institute of Technology and received a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 1991.
