Dr. Norbert W. Bischofberger, Ph.D., has been the Chief Scientific Officer of Gilead Sciences, Inc. since March 09, 2007 and has been its Executive Vice President of Research and Development since 2007. Dr. Bischofberger joined Gilead Sciences Inc. in 1990 as Director of Organic Chemistry until 1993 and served as its Vice President of Organic Chemistry from February 1993 to 1995 and Vice President of Research from August 1995 to 1997. He served as Senior Vice President of Research at Gilead Sciences Inc. from January 1998 to 1999 and also served as its Executive Officer. He served as Senior Vice President of Research and Development of Gilead Sciences Inc. from January 2000 to 2007. Prior to joining Gilead Sciences, Inc., he served as a Senior Scientist in the Molecular Biology Department at Genentech Inc., South San Francisco, California, USA from 1986 to 1990 and Manager of DNA Synthesis Group since 1988. He also performed additional research in Organic Chemistry and Applied Enzymology in Professor George Whiteside's lab at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has been a Director of InCarda Therapeutics, Inc. since June 7, 2016. He has been a Member of Supervisory Board at Bayer Aktiengesellschaft since May 9, 2017. He holds Postdoc at Syntex, Inc., Palo Alto, California, USA from 1983 to 1984 and Postdoc at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA from 1984 to 1986. Dr. Bischofberger received his B.S. in Chemistry from the Leopold-Franzens-University, Innsbruck in Austria from 1975 to 1980 and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Eidgennossische Technische Hochschule (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland from 1980 to 1983.
