Mr. Jerome W. Gates, also known as Jerry, serves as Managing Director of Real Estate at Hamilton Lane Incorporated since February 2011. Mr. Gates has more than 20 years of experience and leads the real estate product area. Mr. Gates served as Managing Director of Alternative Investments and Head of Global Real Estate Investments at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC from June 2009 to June 2011, where he developed open-architecture commercial real estate investment products for the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney's institutional and high net worth clients. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Mr. Gates was with Citigroup and its predecessor firms since 1977. From 2005 to 2009, he served as Managing Director and Head of Global Real Estate Investments in the Global Wealth Management organization at Citigroup Inc., where he oversaw the delivery of over $1 billion in commercial real estate investment products to clients. Mr. Gates served as a Managing Director of Citigroup Alternative Investments (CAI) from 2000 to 2005. From 1995 to 1999, he served as Managing Director and Head of Global Real Estate for the Citigroup Private Bank. During his time with CAI and the Citigroup Private Bank, Mr. Gates ran a direct equity investment business that acquired over $3.5 billion of commercial real estate and while with the Citigroup Private Bank, he was also responsible for the global lending business, including a $3 billion loan portfolio. From 1991 to 1995, he served as Vice President of the Real Estate Investment Bank at Citicorp. He served as the Head of New York Capital Markets at Citicorp. from 1994 to 1995 and was responsible for real estate capital markets transactions, including debt placements, securitizations, bank syndications and property dispositions. He has been Independent Director of Clarion Partners Property Trust Inc. (alternate name, Clarion Property Trust Inc.) since September 2010. He is a Certified Financial Planner. Mr. Gates holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio and Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
