Mr. Daniel McCarthy, also known as Dan, serves as Chief Operating Officer and President of Healthfirst, Inc. and served as its Executive Vice President. Mr. McCarthy joined Healthfirst in April 2008 and has 20 years of experience in healthcare with expertise in product development, operations and business strategy. He served as President of Humana AdvantageCare Plan, Inc. He served as an Interim President of Metcare Health Plans Inc. at Metropolitan Health Networks Inc. He served as the President of METCARE Health Plans, Inc., since April 9, 2007 and as its Chief Operating Officer from April 2008 to September 2008. He has extensive Medicare, managed care background. Since 1998, he managed the Individual Products business for New York-based Empire BlueCross BlueShield including its Medicare Advantage program that grew from 32,000 to 60,000 members under his leadership. He served as an Executive of Empire BlueCross BlueShield of New York where during the course of his tenure he was responsible for Network Contracting and Management, Senior Market Products, Individual Products, the New Jersey market, Medical Economics, Group Underwriting, as well as other areas of responsibility. He had broader responsibilities with Empire including Network Contracting and Underwriting. He holds a B.A. from Fordham University and an M.B.A. in Finance and Management from New York University.
