Health First's Summer Student Nurse Internship Program provides a formal recruitment pipeline for future registered nurses. These highly competitive programs are frequently promoted within Bachelor of Science programs to increase clinical experiences while conducting a potential employer "right fit" assessment before graduation. As Health First and other practice settings aim to fulfill the Institute of Medicine's recommendation that 80 percent of the nursing workforce earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) by 2020, an internship for BSN students can be beneficial for both nursing students and potential employers.
During the eight-week program tailored to students who have completed their junior year or equivalent, interns will have a one-to-one precepted experience with a Health First nurse. The paid student interns will participate in a professional nursing practice and clinical experiences that will prepare them for potential employment at Health First upon graduation.
EditInternships are the beginnings of one’s professional development; so working at a company with strong professional development is beneficial. Overall, employees at Healthfirst rate their professional development a D, ranking them in the Bottom 15% of similar sized companies on Comparably.
