View ArticleFINASTERIDE
Finasterideis for use byMEN ONLYand shouldNOTbe used by women or children.
Read this Patient Information before you start taking Finasteride and each time you get a refill. There may be new information. This information does not take the place of talking with your healthcare provider about your medical condition or treatment.
What is Finasteride?
Finasteride is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). It is not known if Finasteride works for a receding hairline on either side of and above your forehead (temporal area).Finasteride is not for use by women and children.
Who should not take Finasteride?
Do not take Finasteride if you:
Are pregnant or may become pregnant. Finasteride may harm your unborn baby.
Finasteride tablets are coated and will prevent contact with the medicine during handling, as long as the tablets are not broken or crushed. Females who are pregnant or who may become pregnant should not come in contact with broken or crushed Finasteride tablets.
If a pregnant woman comes in contact with crushed or broken Finasteride tablets, wash the contact area right away with soap and water. If a woman who is pregnant comes into contact with the active ingredient in Finasteride, a healthcare provider should be consulted. If a woman who is pregnant with a male baby swallows or comes in contact with the medicine in Finasteride, the male baby may be born with sex organs that are not normal.
Are allergic to any of the ingredients in Finasteride. See the end of this leaflet for a complete list of ingredients in Finasteride.
What should I tell my healthcare provider before taking Finasteride?
Before taking Finasteride, tell your healthcare provider if you:
Have any other medical conditions, including problems with your prostate or liver
Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
Know the medicines you take. Keep a list of them to show your healthcare provider and pharmacist when you get a new medicine.
How should I take Finasteride?
Take Finasteride exactly as your healthcare provider tells you to take it. You may take Finasteride with or without food. If you forget to take Finasteride, do not take an extra tablet. Just take the next tablet as usual. Finasteride will not work faster or better if you take it more than once a day.
What are the possible side effects of Finasteride?
Decrease in your blood Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) levels.Finasteride can affect a blood test called PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) for the screening of prostate cancer. If you have a PSA test done you should tell your healthcare provider that you are taking Finasteride because Finasteride decreases PSA levels. Changes in PSA levels will need to be evaluated by your healthcare provider. Any increase in follow-up PSA levels from their lowest point may signal the presence of prostate cancer and should be evaluated, even if the test results are still within the normal range for men not taking Finasteride. You should also tell your healthcare provider if you have not been taking Finasteride as prescribed because this may affect the PSA test results. For more information, talk to your healthcare provider.
There may be an increased risk of a more serious form of prostate cancer in men taking finasteride at 5 times the dose of Finasteride.
The most common side effects of Finasteride include:
Decrease in sex drive
Trouble getting or keeping an erection
A decrease in the amount of semen
The following have been reported in general use with Finasteride:
Breast tenderness and enlargement.
Tell your healthcare provider about any changes in your breasts such as lumps, pain or nipple discharge.
Depression
Decrease in sex drive that continued after stopping the medication
Allergic reactions including: rash, itching, hives and swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, and face
Problems with ejaculation that continued after stopping medication
Testicular pain
Difficulty in achieving an erection that continued after stopping the medication
Male infertility and/or poor quality of semen
In rare cases, male breast cancer
Tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away.
These are not all the possible side effects of Finasteride. For more information, ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA1088.
How should I store Finasteride?
Store Finasteride at room temperature between 59F to 86F (15C to 30C). Keep Finasteride in a closed container and keep Finasteride tablets dry (protect from moisture).
Keep Finasteride and all medicines out of the reach of children.
General information about the safe and effective use of Finasteride.

View ArticleFinasteride for Hair Loss
At hims, we are committed to providing the latest clinical information to our customers regarding all prescription medications we offer. We want you to be able to make the most informed choice about your wellness. This article focuses on the medication called Finasteride that is used for hair loss.
What causes hair loss?
Male pattern baldness, or androgenic alopecia, is the most common form of hair loss and it is typically an inherited condition. As the condition progresses the natural hair growth cycle begins to weaken and your hair follicles begin to shrink causing your hair to become shorter and finer. The exact cause for this type of hair loss is unknown but it is related to the production of the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Treatments that inhibit the production of DHT are sometimes effective in slowing, stopping or reversing hair loss due to androgenic alopecia.
What is Finasteride and how does it work?
Finasteride is an FDA-approved medication for the treatment of hair loss. Also known as the brand name Propecia, Finasteride belongs to a class of drugs known as 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. It works by preventing testosterone from breaking down into DHT, the hormone that causes baldness.
Does Finasteride work?
Finasteride (1mg dose prescribed for hair loss) has been shown to be 85\% effective with hair regrowth occurring in 3-4 months. The medication needs to be taken on a continuous basis or else new hair will be lost after one year of stopping the medication. (In comparison, topical Minoxidil 5\% is about 50\% effective in stimulating new hair growth.)
Is Finasteride Safe?
A 1mg dose of Finasteride is a very safe drug with minimal side effects (see below). However, people who are pregnant or have chronic liver disease should not use Finasteride. It is also recommended that you stop taking NSAIDS (Motrin, Advil, Aleve type medication) for the period of time you are taking Finasteride due to some increased risk of side effects (see below).
Does Finasteride Cause Side Effects?
Finasteride can cause the following side effects in a limited number of patients:
Rash or Breast Tenderness: Less than 1\% of patients will develop a rash or breast tenderness which is reversible after the medication is stopped.
Sexual Dysfunction: 1.2\%-1.4\% (vs 1\% placebo) of patients experience drug-related sexual dysfunction side effects including decreased libido, erectile dysfunction or a decrease in the volume of ejaulation.
Decreased libido 1.8\%
Erectile dysfunction 1.3\%
Decreased volume of ejaculate 1.2\%
Several studies have documented the great majority of these side effects are reversible. However, 1.4\% of the patients who experience side effects will continue to have symptoms following discontinuation of Finasteride. Of particular note there was an association of the sexual dysfunction symptoms and the use of NSAIDS (Motrin, Advil, Aleve type medications.) For this reason Finasteride should be stopped for the period of time when you take NSAIDS.
Does Finasteride Cause Depression or Prostate Cancer?
Depression: There is no direct link between Finasteride and depression.
Prostate cancer and prostate enlargement (BPH):
There is no increase in the incidence of prostate cancer. There have been conflicting studies on the increased risk in the number of high grade prostate cancers however several recent studies have shown no increase in the number of deaths (with a recent study showing fewer deaths) in patients who use Finasteride at the 1mg dosage.
Finasteride can be useful in the treatment of BPH and urinary retention because it can have an antiandrogenic effect (testosterone blocking) at a 5mg dosage. For hair loss, patients are given a 1mg dosage which should not produce any antiandrogenic effect.
Alternate Treatment Options for Hair Loss
Below are a list of other treatment options for hair loss other than Finasteride.
Minoxidil: Minoxidil is a topical medication that promotes hair growth. It works by stimulating your hair follicles to enter the growth phase, increasing blood flow to your hair and helping to transport essential nutrients to your hair follicles.
Unlike finasteride, minoxidil doesn’t affect DHT and has no effects on your production of hormones. Like finasteride, it’s backed up by a huge amount of scientific evidence, with studies showing a significant increase in hair growth after several months of use. Studies show that minoxidil and finasteride are safe to take together. In fact, many studies have been conducted using finasteride and minoxidil together to prevent hair loss while fueling newgrowth of healthy hair.
Supplements and non-pharmaceutical products: While supplements aren’t as effective as FDA-approved medications like finasteride and minoxidil, they can be a helpful part of your baldness prevention routine.
Saw palmetto: While it’s not as effective as finasteride, studies show that saw palmetto can help to reduce DHT levels by a modest amount, helping to slow down male pattern baldness in men sensitive to DHT.
Biotin: While biotin doesn’t directly prevent hair loss, it’s linked to improvements in hair growth in scientific studies. Biotin is available as an oral supplement, or as an ingredient in hair loss prevention shampoos.
Hair loss prevention shampoo: There are countless hair loss prevention shampoos on the market. Look for shampoos that contain proven ingredients like biotin, ketoconazole and saw palmetto, all of which have real benefits for your hair.
Other treatments
Hair transplant surgery: Hair transplant surgery involves transplanting hairs from the back and sides of your head (areas that aren’t affected by male pattern baldness) onto your crown, hairline or other areas with hair loss. Performed by a skilled surgeon, a hair transplant can restore your hairline and almost completely eliminate any visible signs of hair loss. Like other cosmetic surgeries, hair transplant surgery is highly effective but very costly and rarely covered by insurance.
Scalp micropigmentation: Scalp micropigmentation is a cosmetic procedure that can change the pigment of your scalp, creating the appearance of small, short hairs and a fuller head of hair. Although scalp micropigmentation can make it look like you have a thicker head of hair, it’s not a treatment for male pattern baldness and does not restore any real hair follicles.
Hairpieces: While they won’t help you grow back any real hair, hairpieces and weaves can produce surprisingly good results if you need to fill in thin spots and cover up your hair loss for an important event.
Acceptance: If your hair loss is severe and you’re not interested in treating it, you can simply accept it. Whether you choose to shave your head or keep your remaining hair cut short, rocking the bald look can be a great option if you’ve got the confidence.

View Articlewhat is an airless pump bottle and how does it work?
It may look similar to cream dispensers you've used in the past, but under the surface the airless pump bottle design is a bit different. The biggest change is that there are no tubes or straws inside to force the cream out of the bottle. Instead, we use an airless pump delivery system, which is hygienic, consistent and simple to use. Here's what it looks like:
why use an airless pump bottle for skin cream?
There are a couple benefits to using an airless pump bottle design.
1. It's super hygienic. This bottle design stops excess oxygen from coming into contact with the product and guards your skin cream against contaminants. Removing any internal straws from the design and instead basing the movement of the product on air intake systems and vacuums inhibits microbial growth and keeps your product fresher longer.
2. The airless pump system isreliable, dispensing product in metered quantities to ensure consistent application.
how do i prime my airless pump bottle?
When you first receive your airless pump bottle, pump the top a few times and your product should start dispensing normally. Since our bottles do not contain a straw it's important to note that a few empty pumps at the beginning is completely normal - some bottles may take up to 10-30 pumps if they have been sitting for a while.
If you’re not getting any product after 5 pumps, we recommend priming the pump. Start by putting the cap back on the bottle, then hold your bottle upside-down and gently tap the top of the bottle against a flat surface. This should get the product moving.
my bottle is empty, can i open it?
If you just received your skin cream and are pumping the bottle but not seeing any product come out, please don't try to open the bottle - this can damage airless pump system. Please start by priming the bottle (see above).
If you are near the very end of your product then yes, you can unscrew the cap to get out the last remaining cream. Please use a Q-tip (not your finger) so the cream is applied hygienically.
View ArticleWhen a doctor prescribes medication for off-label use, this means that the physician is prescribing a drug in a way that is different than what is in the FDA approved labeling for the drug.
When the FDA approves a drug, the approved labeling specifies, among other things, the diseases or conditions for which the drug has been approved by the FDA.
However, physicians are generally permitted to prescribe a drug for an “off label” or “unapproved” use when they determine it is medically appropriate for their patient.
View ArticleFinasteride 1mg tablet is the FDA approved generic equivalent of Propecia. Some people prefer to take brand drugs, even though they are typically more expensive. A company that makes a brand drug invests in research and development costs to create the brand drug, so they usually charge more for the brand version. When the FDA allows generic versions of a brand drug to be sold, they require that the generic drugs have the same quality, safety, and effectiveness as the brand drug.

Latisse is an FDA approved treatment used to treat hypotrichosis. Eyelash hypotrichosis is defined as having lower than average length, thickness, and/or number of eyelashes. Causes of eyelash hypotrichosis include hereditary, aging, chemotherapy, medical treatment, eye surgery, and physical trauma.
what’s in it?
Active Ingredient:
bimatoprost
Inactive Ingredients:
benzalkonium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium phosphate, dibasic, citric acid, purified water, and sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid may be added to adjust pH
who can take this?
Latisse is not appropriate for people who are allergic to any ingredient in the product including bimatroprost and people using medications for the treatment of any eye pressure problems or have known or suspected active eye disease should use under close doctor care.
how is this taken?
Latisse must be applied to the base of the upper eyelash each evening. Lashes grow gradually over time with some people beginning to see longer lashes in four weeks, with full growth at 16 weeks. You must continue to use the medication for results; otherwise, eyelashes will return to their original appearance. Applying Latisse more than once a day will not grow lashes faster or improve the effectiveness.

If you miss a dose, don’t try to “catch up.” Just apply the Latisse solution the next evening to get back on schedule.
what are the potential side effects?
The most common side effects include an itching sensation, eye redness, skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, and redness of the eyelids. While very infrequent, increased brown iris pigmentation of the colored part of the eye has occurred, which is likely to be permanent.

If you use of Lumigan or other prostaglandin analogs in your eyes for the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), consult with your doctor before starting Latisse. The combined use of Latisse and these medications may interfere with the desired reduction in IOP.
Increased brown pigmentation of the iris may occur while using Latisse. This may take months to years to develop. This is likely to be a permanent change that will not go away after you stop Latisse. You may continue to use Latisse even if you notice this side effect. You may also develop darkening of the eyelid above the lash line, which is often reversal after stopping Latisse.
Do not use Latisse if you are:
Allergic to any of its ingredients
Pregnant
Breastfeeding
Younger than 18 years of age
There is the potential for hair growth to occur on the skin where Latisse is applied after repeated use. Only apply Latisse to the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes using the sterile applicators, and carefully blot any excess Latisse from the eyelid margin to avoid it running onto other areas of your face.
Do not use Latisse on your lower eyelash line
Never reuse applicators and do not use any other brush/applicator to apply Latisse
What are the most common side effects of Latisse?
In clinical trials, the most frequent side effects that occurred in approximately 3-4\% of subjects included:
Itching sensation in the eyes
Redness of the eye

Eye pressure problems
History of eye disease
Loss of the lens of the eye or a torn lens
History of macular edema
Are there certain situations while using Latisse when I should contact a healthcare provider right away?
Itching, redness, swelling, or other signs of eye or eyelid irritation/infection
Trauma to the eye
A sudden change in vision
If you are scheduled for eye surgery
Do I need to remove my contact lenses before applying Latisse?
Contact lenses should be removed prior to application of Latisse and can be reinserted 15 minutes after you have used the medication
Can I use Latisse more than once a day?
No, using it more than once a day will not increase the growth of lashes more than using it once a day.
What happens when I stop using Latisse?
Your eyelashes will likely return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.
