  • Forward your domain using CNAME forwarding and you will still be able to make use of features like email accounts through your external domain host.

Please set up a 301 redirect so that your website can be accessed without any hassle. Please also make sure that you’ve added the domain to your Jimdo website.

You should adjust the following settings at your domain provider.

    Setting up CNAME

CNAME forwarding uses the following structure:

    www.yourdomain.xx CNAME web.jimdosite.com

Exchange “yourdomain.xx” with your own data. Here is an example:

    www.my-examplewebsite.com CNAME web.jimdosite.com

The target of your redirect has to be web.jimdosite.com.

    web.jimdosite.com is not a placeholder!

    Setting up a 301 redirect

Set up a 301 redirect so that visitors can access your website if they don’t type in www. in front of your domain name.

Do it as follows (exchange the placeholders):

    Source: yourdomain.xx

    target address: www.yourdomain.xx

    Note

After setting up the domain forwarding, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect.

  • To use your Dolphin website, all you need is a mobile device or a computer, an internet connection, and a web browser.

    Requirements

Use the latest version of one of the supported browsers to edit your website:

    Google Chrome

    Mozilla Firefox

    Apple Safari

    Microsoft Edge

We recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. If you’re not sure which browser version your computer is using, you can always check it out over at supportdetails.com.

    Boost App

  • If you prefer to continue using certain services (such as email accounts) through your external domain host, forwarding your domain is a suitable method. You'll need one of our premium plans if you want to forward a domain to your Dolphin website.

    Adding your domain

First, add the domain to your Dolphin website:

Log in to your Jimdo account and choose the desired website

Click on the globe icon (Domains) on the left side

    Choose Add an external domain

Enter your domain and click on Next

    Managing domain settings

Now, make the necessary changes to the settings at your domain host and select one of the following methods to forward your domain:

    CNAME

    Nameservers

We recommend using the CNAME method, as forwarding via Nameservers could lead to certain services being unavailable at your domain host.

    Notes

We do not support forwarding via A-Record

If you’ve already transferred a domain to Jimdo or registered a domain with Jimdo, that domain will remain your primary domain (the domain that visitors see in their browser’s address bar)

  • You can connect your domain via nameservers if you’re not using any service like email accounts through your external domain host.

That way, your domain remains at your registrar, but is being managed by Jimdo for the most part.

    Changing nameservers

Set up the nameservers of your domain at your domain provider as follows:

    ns11.jimdo.com

    ns12.jimdo.com

    Note

After changing the nameservers, it can take up to 24 hours to fully connect your domain to your Dolphin website.

Please also make sure that you’ve added your domain to your Dolphin website.

The number of variants per product should be no more than 36. These would be, for example, two options like 'size' and 'color', each with 6 choices.

  • If you’d like your website to appear on search engines, you should use significant words or phrases in your content. Adding keywords to each page helps search engines and visitors get a sense of what it is about and whether your website will be relevant for them. Such texts are especially important on your homepage in order to make your website ‘Google-friendly’.

Of course, Google has to know that your website exists before it can appear within its search. To do so, Google uses so called ‘crawlers’ to visit and index your website.

When will Google visit my website?

It’s up to Google to visit your website - only they know when to send their crawlers your way. Sometimes it takes Google a couple of days to crawl new websites, but in some cases it can also take several weeks.

    Can I accelerate the process?

You may add your website to the Google Search Console and use the URL Inspection Tool. Afterwards, you can tell Google to index your website. Please note that it may still take a while for Google to actually index your website.

Can I check the current status?

Yes! You can check whether your website has already been indexed by typing in the following into Google’s search box:

    site:YOUR WEBSITE ADDRESS

    Example: site:my-new-website.com
