Tom Kontos — Chief Economist at KAR Auction Services

Mr. Tom Kontos has been Chief Economist at KAR Auction Services, Inc. since November 14, 2016. Mr. Kontos's insights help customers better understand the many diverse and complex factors that influence their businesses and the industry. He has been Executive Vice President and Chief Economist of Adesa Analytical Services at ADESA, Inc. since December 30, 2015 and served as its Executive Vice President of Customer Strategies and Analytics from November 12, 2015 to December 30, 2015. Mr. Kontos served as an Executive Vice President and Chief Client Officer of Customer Strategies & Analytics at ADESA, Inc. since September 2, 2015 until November 12, 2015. Mr. Kontos interfaces with key ADESA clients and dealers, Wall Street and automotive analysts and members of the media, providing his analytical services in a variety of formats. He served as an Executive Vice President of Customer Strategies and Analytics at ADESA, Inc. since 2007. These formats include annual market reports, web-based information products and dealer surveys. His 20-plus years of experience in market research, financial analysis and strategic planning also include experience with W.R. Grace & Co., Vulcan Materials Company and Rogers Group, Inc. Mr. Kontos joined ADESA in 2000 as Vice President of Industry Relations and Analytical Services, providing the vehicle remarketing industry information and insight along with various customer-related analytical reports and strategic studies. He has taught at Birmingham-Southern College and Trevecca University and participated in the Master of Liberal Arts and Science Program at Vanderbilt University. He is the author of Global Vehicle Remarketing (GVR) and Pulse. Mr. Kontos helped launch and was the principal author of five editions of the ADT Automotive Used Car Market Report. Mr. Kontos holds a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Mineral Resource Economics from The Pennsylvania State University.
