SEQUENCE FOR WIRING KISI CONTROLLER PRO TO A FAIL-SAFE DOOR LOCK

    this troubleshooting guide

Wire one of the four door relays to the fail-safe lock on the door. Since you will be wiring the relay as a wet contact, you will need to run the positive wires to 12V or 24V (Depending on your lock) and run negative to NC(Normally Closed).

The wiring should also run to a keypad outside the space and a REX (Request to Exit) inside the space. A keypad should be used as a back-up mode of access in case internet goes down. A REX allows an occupant to exit the door without using Kisi, and would refer to either a motion sensor or a push-to-exit button. Wire your REX to IN1 (Input 1)and GND(Ground) in the REX component.

Configure the jumper wire to run from GND (Ground) to COM (Common).

IMPORTANT: The Kisi Controller Pro only supplies up to 4 Amps total for the door locks that are drawing power from the circuit board. It is highly recommended if you have more than one maglock that you power your maglocks through an external power supply.

Kisi Controller Pro does NOT support AC wiring, so make sure the lock can work on DC.

Once complete, power the Kisi Controller Pro using provided power supply and input. A blue light should come on if powered.

    Low Voltage Wires

SEQUENCE FOR WIRING KISI CONTROLLER PRO TO A FAIL-SECURE DOOR LOCK

    this troubleshooting guide

Wire one of the four relays to the fail-secure lock on the door. This is a wet contact relay which will require positive wires to run to the 12V or 24V (Depending on your lock) and negative to NO (Normally Open).

Be sure that you do NOT connect the door lock to GND and NC (Normally Closed). Such a configuration will burn out the fail-secure lock over time.

Configure the jumper wire to run from GND(Ground) to COM(Common).

**IMPORTANT** - The Kisi Controller Pro only supplies up to 4 Amps total for the door locks that are drawing power from the circuit board. If you wish to power up more doors, DO NOT exceed a total of 4 Amps for each Kisi Controller Pro.

Example: If you have two electric strikes that draw 12V/2 Amps from Kisi Pro, you CANNOT power anymore locks from the circuit board. You can still wire another two door locks to the Kisi Controller Pro, but only from their own separate power supply and as dry contacts.

Kisi Controller Pro does NOT support AC wiring, so make sure the lock can work on DC.

  • Q: My Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 is offline and I cannot unlock the doors. What do I do?

A:The Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 can fall offline for a number of reasons, the most common of which is a network change, such as updating the network password. To confirm the device is offline, the LED light on your Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 above the relays should be blinking red, indicating no network signal. Carry out the following steps until the LED light turns to blinking green, which indicates it is online.

    1. Power cycle - unplug power and plug it back in.

    2. Ethernet cycle - unplug the ethernet cable from the Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 and plug it back in.

    3. Check all power sources to the Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 and make sure they are securely fastened.

    4. Restart router which Kisi is connected to.

If all of the above does not bring the Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 online, reach out to [email protected].

Q: My Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 is online but the doors do not unlock. What do I do?

    A:Check the following things:

    1. Are the electric locks getting power? As a general rule of thumb, if the door is unlocked by default, there is no power going into the locks. Check the IT closet for the power supply. The building/office manager will have a better idea of where this is.

    2. Are the relays on the Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 clicking? Go to the Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 and press the unlock buttons on the Kisi app. Listen for a clicking sound on the controller itself. If the relay is not clicking, reach out to [email protected].

Q: Can the Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 integrate with an existing alarm system?

A: Yes, Kisi can integrate your alarm system with the Kisi Controller Pro 1.1. Our standard configuration for alarm integrations is turning the alarm off upon triggering the Kisi relays, unlocking the doors for 3 seconds, then re-arming the alarm after the doors re-lock. To set up an alarm integration, you will need to contact Kisi Support by emailing [email protected].

  • Ethernet

Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 is capable of connecting to a network via a wired ethernet connection. It supports 10Mbps and 100Mbps operation.

    Wifi Network Frequency

Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 can operate on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies.

    Firewall

The Kisi Controller Pro only makes outbound connections, so you have to configure the TCP ports if you have afirewall thatpreventsoutbound connections. The UDP connections can remain closed.Below are the TCP ports that you need to open:

    Port

    TCP

    UDP

    Usage

    31314

    Initial device-server connection

    993

    Fallback device-server connection

    80

    Fetch device firmware

The wifi chipwill attempt to connect via TCP port 31314. If this fails, they will attempt to use TCP port 993, which is typically open by default for email traffic. Our wifi chipdoes not use UDP.Port 80 is used to request and transfer wifi chipupdates. This port is typically open by default for HTTP/HTTPS.The wifi chipwe use is able toconnect across multiple levels of firewall and NAT (Network Address Translation), so NAT firewalls work fine with Kisi. Be sure to have yourIT administrator unblock the necessary ports before connecting your Kisi Controller Pro 1.1.

    EnterpriseWifi Network

Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 does not currently support enterprise-level wifiauthentication, 802.1x, which requires that you log in with a username and password as well as the customary SSID. You will not be able to connectyourKisi to such a network unless this is downgraded to a802.11n wifioperating in the 5GHz band. It is also compatible with 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g networksas well.

    Captive Hotspot Network

The wifichip doesnot support networks which require auser to enter login detailsbefore network access is granted. This ismost commonly encountered with public hotspots and some guest networks in officeenvironments (rarely for home-based wifinetworks).

    WiFi Encryption

Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 does not require an open network for it to work.Itcan operate on WPA, WPA2, and Open networks.

    Recommended Settings

We always recommend setting up your Kisi to work with two networking options of connecting to the Kisi Cloud: ethernet and wifi. So, we recommend that your Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 is installed next to your wifi router. In the unlikely case that your Ethernet goes down, wifi can act as a backup.

If the Kisi Controller Pro 1.1 is installed in an area with no wifi connection, you should set up adedicated 4G hotspot. This works for places where the wifisignal is out of reach, such as yourlobby door when your office is located on the 10th floor of the building.

  • The Kisi Controller does not have a Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP), however it works with any off-the-shelf alarm panel, e.g. the Bosch FPA-1000 Fire Alarm Panel, which is often already installed in buildings. If youre installing the FACP yourself and looking to connect your magnetic or fail-safe strike locks toyour own fire alarm, Kisi recommends introducing an external power supply to provide power to yourlocks as well as providing a built-in FACP. The external power supply and fire alarm panel combinationthat Kisi recommends is the Altronix AL600ULACM or a customized model of LifeSafetyPower.

    this manual

    How It Works

The power supply controls both the electricity to your lock and the FACP, regardless of whether yourFACP lives within the power supply or is external (i.e. Bosch FPA-1000). When the fire alarm is tripped,it will send a signal to the power supply and interrupt the fire relay controlthis allows your doors to remain unlocked from the outside while power is removed (fail-safe) during an emergency. This functionality is independent of Kisi and works regardless of any connectivity issue with your Kisi controller.

You can find wiring instructions for the Altronix AL600ULACM FACP in Figures 3-7 of .

  • *IMPORTANT* - Only the Account Owner / Master Admin can create a Secondary Admin.

Kisi only allows for one account owner/master admin, but you can assign administrator permissions to as many other users as you'd like.

Secondary Admins can do anything the Master Admin can do except make changes on the Place page.

To create a Secondary Admin, from your Dashboard go to Members, then Add Members. (Note - if the user already exists as a member, adding the email address again WILL NOT duplicate the member. It will simply add another share to the member's profile.)

Enter the email address of the user you'd like to assign Admin privileges, then select the Kisi default group Entire Place. **Important** - Selecting any other group will only share admin privileges within that group, meaning the user will only be able to make changes to that group, specifically.

Click on theEntire place icon and thenon the three little dots to the right, then select Administrator.

    Finally, clickSaveandAddandDone.

  • 1. Kisi Reader Pro shows red LED lights on the front despite plugging Ethernet cable in

Red LED lights indicate that the reader is offline. Please check if:

    1. The ethernet connection is a live one. A simple test would be to plug it into a computer to see if you can surf the Internet with that network connection

    2. Make sure these ports are open on your firewall as per details below

The Kisi Reader Pro only makes outbound connections, so you have to configure the TCP ports if you have afirewall thatpreventsoutbound connections.

Be sure to have yourIT administrator unblock the necessary ports before connecting your Kisi Reader Pro.

    2. The LED light on the front of the Kisi Reader Pro is blue but when I tap a card against it, the lights turn red

Blue LED lights indicate the reader is online. The red LED is an error, which could mean certain settings are not set right:

If trying to unlock with a card:

    1. Card not activated

Please make sure the user clicks on the card activation email

    2. The group the user is in does not have card access enabled

Navigate to the Member list, search and click on the user. Scroll down to Group Memberships, click on the Group the user has access to and turn the slider for card access on.

If trying to unlock using tap-to-unlock:

    1. User does not have a valid share and/or Kisi account

When shared access, the user should have received an email from Kisi saying that 'Access has been shared'. Make sure that the user clicks on the 'Accept share' button in the email which will lead him/her to create an account

    2. User does not have the correct settings enabled in their Kisi app

Confirm iPhone users have both Bluetooth and location services enabled, and Android users have both NFC and location services enabled.

    3. The Kisi Reader Pro is not associated to any door

As the admin, go on to the Kisi web dashboard, click on Hardware. You should see the reader in the hardware list. From there confirm the reader is associated with the correct door. If not, please associate it to a door.

    3. The LED light on the front of the Kisi Reader Pro does not turn on (remains grey)

Check that all connections going into the Kisi Reader Pro are secure and there is power coming from the main source.

    LED Codes

    Terminology

Brightness: can be eitherbrightordim(example: a blinking reader roughly switches between bright and dim)

State: can be eithersolidorblinking(example: the reader is normally solid blue, but switches to blinking blue when you start interacting with it)

Colors: rough color approximation. We only use a handful, mostly intuitive set of colors (e.g., green for success, red for some form of failure)

  • YOU WILL NEED

Kisi Controller Pro (comes with a 24V Universal AC power supply)

    Not included with Kisi purchase:

12 or 24V DC fail safe electric strike or magnetic lock

    Ethernet Cable

    Low Voltage Wires

    External Power Supply for lock

    Push to exit button/motion sensor

    Keypad

SEQUENCE FOR WIRING KISI CONTROLLER PRO TO A FAIL-SAFE DOOR LOCK

    this troubleshooting guide

Wire one of the four door relays to the external power supply and the fail-safe lock on your door. Since you will be wiring the relay as a dry contact, you will start by wiring the relay to the power supply from GND (Ground) and NO (normally Open) to the GND (Ground) and IN (Input). Next, you will need to run the negative wires to COM (Common) and run positive to NC (Normally Closed) back to the lock.

Wire your REX toIN1(Input 1)andGND(Ground) in the REX component.

Connect the external power supply to a fire alarm system. This is in accordance to safety code - when the fire alarm triggers, power to the Kisi Controller Pro will be interrupted and the doors will automatically unlock. Kisi recommends connecting fire alarms to the external power supply as that unit has its own fire alarm control panel (FACP) which shuts down the locks when the fire alarm is triggered.

Once complete, power the Kisi Controller Pro using provided power supply and input. A blue light should come on if powered.

Plug in the Ethernet cable, you should see a green blinking light on the top right hand corner of the board. This indicates that the Kisi Controller Pro is online. If the light is not green, please refer to .

  • Opening a new facility is often an extremely complex project. We want to do our best to support your efforts by providing a straightforward timeline of events that leads to a successful access control system setup. (Depending on your project size or scope, some of the steps listed below may not be applicable.)

    Before Kisi Arrives

Clarify who installs the locks, who runs cable, who sets up and mounts Kisi devices, and who makes sure physical security is emergency exit compliant.

Create a door plan detailing which groups in your organization will have access to which doors.

Specifications:It needs to be exactly clear how many and which type of cables are needed at each door.

Software set up: Kisi creates your place account and associates your devices to your account for you. Upon installation, please reach out to Kisi to have one of us transfer your account to you and help get you on-boarded.

    After Kisi Arrives

-- IT room has to be ready with accessible wall space dedicated to Kisi controller(s). Internet must be active.

Mount controller(s) to the wall using the template provided.

Door locks must be wired to the relays on the Kisi Controller Pro. Please apply labels detailing which relays are assigned to which doors. It is useful to label the wires that you connect to the relays, as well.

Label physical doors (using tape or signs) according to the lock names you create.

Label each ethernet cable with the corresponding reader(s) to which they are connected.

Get controller(s) and reader(s) online by connecting them via ethernet. *Note* - Kisi Reader Pros function via Power over Ethernet (PoE). If your switch is PoE compatible, you can plug the readers directly into it. If not, you will need to use the PoE injector provided.

    After Kisi is installed

Contact Kisi Support to have your account transferred.

Complete the on-boarding session with Kisi Support.

    Test the system.

Once the system has been successfully tested with a Kisi Support agent, you can start adding members to use your Kisi access control system.

  • For Kisi to be installed successfully and smoothly, a few other components need to be in place.

    1. Electronic Locks

The purchase of Kisi does not include the locking hardware. If the installation is being performed by an installer, the installers you work with can recommend the most appropriate one for your door.

If you are opting for a self install, this guide will help in selecting the ideal lock for the door and any other hardware you are interested in installing.

    2. Network Connectivity

Both the Kisi Controller Pro and Kisi Reader Pro work best when connected to the network via Ethernet. This ensures a strong, stable connection to the network.

While it is strongly recommended that both be connected via ethernet, they do have the ability to function over WiFi, provided the WiFi signal is very strong.

    3.Dedicated Kisi Admin

Although the set-up and on-boarding of users to Kisi is a rather easy process, it is always good to have one person as a point of contact to get everything set up in the beginning.

Upon installation, please reach out to Kisi to have one of us transfer your account to you and help get you on-boarded.Support hours are Monday - Friday, 9am-6pm EST. Phone: (646) 663-4880

  • Requirement of a UL certification generally relates to egress. Since Kisi does not typically control egress in relation to your access control system, UL certification is not necessary for the parts Kisi manufactures. However Kisi is typically used with UL listed parts such as power supplies or locks.

Motion sensors and/or request to exit buttons are typically wired in-series with the lock, thus bypassing the Kisi system when people exit a building that utilizes fail safe locks. For those buildings using fail secure locks, egress is accomplished by usingeither the door handle or a push bar. If you have motion sensors or push to exit buttons, your installer can provide the UL certification for the device(s) installed.

If you do have Kisi set up to control egress, the UL listing for power to the Kisi controller can be found here.

The Kisi reader's UL certification for power can be found on your switch's data sheets, if you are using your own Power over Ethernet (PoE) enabled switch. If you are using a Kisi provided PoE injector, there is no UL certification, however, you can find RoHs certification here.

If you need UL certification for the PoE injector connected to the Kisi reader, Kisi recommends this model.

If your installation requires UL certification from the Kisi side, Kisi offers the Lifesafety power supply which is UL certified.

To learn more about UL Certification and Compliance, please read this article.

Depending on the restrictions set by the admin you may encounter different issues. If you need access to a place, always reach out to the place admin as it is he or she who will share you access.Be advised that there are two ways to use Kisi. 1. One is to approach a locked door that is Kisi configured and simply swipe the lock to the right in the Kisi app. 2. The other one is to tap your smartphone against the Kisi Reader next to the door (only available if the location uses Kisi Readers and the feature is enabled by the admin).

Common error messages on a mobile device

Error: "You're not close enough to the door"

Solution: Make sure that Bluetooth Sharing and Location Services are on for iPhone and NFC and Location Services for Android as well as the latest version of the Kisi App.Error: "The Kisi Controller is not available"Meaning: The Kisi Controller is offline.Solution: Usually when this happens, it is due to either network or power issues at your location. Please see the following article for troubleshooting.

    General issues

Problem: "I can not see any places in the app"

Meaning: You have no active shares. Either your place admin has not shared access to you yet, the share is time-limited and not active yet, or you have been de-assigned access.

Solution: Reach out to your place admin as he or she needs to grant you access.Problem: Our door/s report as open even though they are notMeaning: The contact sensor for the specific door might be enabled even though you do not have a contact sensor installed. If this is the case, the door will report as open even when it is not.Solution: In the admin dashboard, go to the Controller and check the settings for the contact sensors and adjust according to your situation.

  • It can be troublesome to issue keys or keycards for your guests. You need to go through the process of recollecting the keys at the end of the day and the guest could lose it! Kisi spares you from this entire process with two features: Link Access & Validity Dates.

    Web Link Access

Assigning keys with Web Link Accessmeans a personcan access your space even if they do not download the Kisi mobile app. Under Add Member' toggle the slider next to Link Access when you are adding temporary users.

Instead of downloading the app and creating an account, they will be sent alink to their email inbox. When they click the link, it launches their phones web browser and they can unlock the door from there. The link unlock is a great feature for visitors. However, for security purposes, we do recommend that all every-day Kisi users are not granted this option.

    Validity Dates

When you issue a Key, you will see an option to select Validity Dates. This means that you can choose when a users key becomes active and inactive.

You can easily issue a key to someone for a month, a day, or even an hour. When the Validity Date period begins, your user can use his or herkey to enter your space. The minute this period expires, your users access is automatically revoked.

To implement LinkAccess with Temporary Keys:

Sign into your Kisi Admin Panel and enter your Place.

    Navigate to Members.

Click Add Members and enter your guests email address. If more than one, you can fill in multipleemail addresses at once by separating each email with a link break, comma, or semi-colon. Hit enter when you are done typing in the email addresses to lock them in.

Under Assign Groups to Share, select a group or the 'Entire Place' from the drop down.

Click on the slider for Link Access to turn it on. This allows them to access Kisi without downloading the app. If you do not want them to have App or Card access, deselect those options.

Look for Valid From and Valid Until located underneath the Basic Permissions section. Fill in the 4 relevant fields:

    Valid From: Date

    Valid From: Time

    Valid Until: Date

    Valid Until: Time

    Click Add

There you have it! Your guests will now be able to enter your space the momentthe Validity Date period kicks in.
