Dr. Brian J. Caveney, M.D., J.D., MPH, has been Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings since September 25, 2017. Dr. Caveney served as the Chief Medical Officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Inc. since March 7, 2016 until October 02, 2017. Dr. Caveney leads healthcare program design and strategy, customer group consulting, medical expense management, care management, network provider contracting and relationships, health delivery redesign, plan and network quality initiatives, medical and reimbursement policy and pharmacy for health plan. He joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina in 2011. Along with various roles in the Healthcare Division of the core health plan, he also served as the Chief Clinical Officer of Mosaic Health Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BCBSNC for strategic investments in diversified health solutions businesses. Prior to joining BCBSNC, He was a Practicing Physician and Assistant Professor at Duke University Medical Center and also provided consulting services for several companies in the Research Triangle Park region. He is a frequent lecturer at Duke University, the University of North Carolina and North Carolina State University. He has worked on issues such as employee wellness, benefit plan design, disability, workers' compensation, employee productivity, case management and regulatory compliance. Dr. Caveney earned his MD from the West Virginia University School of Medicine, a JD from the West Virginia University College of Law and an MPH in Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center and is Board-Certified in Preventive Medicine with a specialty in occupational and environmental medicine. He served as the President of the Southeastern Atlantic College of Occupational & Environmental Medicine and continues to hold an active law license in North Carolina.
