Philip Freda — Head of Public Entity Business - Markel Global Reinsurance and MD of Markel Global Reinsurance at Markel Corporation

Mr. Philip Freda also known as Phil, serves as Managing Director and Head of Public Entity Reinsurance at Markel Global Reinsurance Company. He has been Managing Director & Head of Public Entity at Markel Corp. since November 12, 2012. Mr. Freda started his career as a trainee with Selective in 1987. He advanced to a Department Manager position before leaving to take an Account Executive position with a retail broker. He held Production Underwriter positions with both Coregis and AIG before returning to Selective in 1996 as part of the company's large account and alternative risk operation. He served as the insurer's Vice President of Reinsurance for five years until 2005, at which time he became responsible for Selective's public sector pooling operations, managing a team of underwriters, claims professionals, actuaries and support staff. He holds a B.S. in Economics from Rutgers University and has also earned the Certified Risk Manager designation.
