Daryl C. Drummond Ph.D. — Head of Research at Merrimack Pharmaceuticals

Dr. Daryl C. Drummond, Ph.D. has been Head of Research at Merrimack Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since March 2017. Prior to joining Merrimack, Dr. Drummond served as a Director of Liposome Research and Development of HERMES Biosciences, Inc. Dr. Drummond joined Hermes in 2000. Dr. Drummond has held various leadership roles at Merrimack, including as Vice President of Discovery and Team Leader for Merrimack's early-stage pipeline. Dr. Drummond was also integral in the invention and development of ONIVYDE'?, which was recently sold to Ipsen S.A. for up to $1.025 billion. In 2000, he became the first scientist hired by Hermes Biosciences, where he directs the liposomal/immunoliposomal therapeutic research and development efforts at Hermes. His experience includes the formulation of a broad range of therapeutic agents, including both small molecular weight drugs and nucleic acid-based therapeutics, GMP manufacturing of both liposomal therapeutics and human scFv antibody-PEG-lipid conjugates, conjugation or formulation of novel imaging agents and the development of strategies for modulating the efficiency of in vivo drug delivery for liposomal therapeutics.Following completion of his postdoctoral work to direct the research efforts in Dr. Papahadjopoulos' academic laboratory, the Liposome Research Laboratory, at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. Dr. Drummond is an expert and pioneer in the field of nanotherapeutics. He later became a postdoctoral fellow at California Pacific Medical Center. He earned Ph.D. in a Ph.D. in biochemistry and a B.S. from Indiana University, where he studied Membrane Biochemistry and Biophysics. He completed an Executive Training Program in Leadership and Strategy in Pharmaceuticals and Biotech from Harvard Business School.
