Ms. Kathryn Surace-Smith, also known as Kathy, has been Vice President and General Counsel of NanoString Technologies, Inc. since February 28, 2013 and serves as its Corporate Secretary. Ms. Surace-Smith joined NanoString after serving for eight years at SonoSite, Inc. Ms. Surace-Smith served as Vice President of General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Sonosite Inc., since October 2002. From 1996 to August 2002, Ms. Surace-Smith served as a Secretary of Metawave Communications Corp., a telecommunications equipment provider. Prior to that, she served as an International Counsel for Alcatel Telecom in Paris and as Counsel at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London. She served as Editor of the Columbia Law Review of Columbia University. She was in private practice with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher from 1985 to 1992. She received her A.B. in Politics from Princeton University and a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1985.
