Active in Nelnet Inc.'s strategic planning and direction, Mr. Heimes oversees the preparation and issuance of financial statements, corporate accounting/tax matters and Nelnet Inc.'s asset-backed securitization and warehousing activities. He serves as Principal Accounting Officer, Principal Financial Officer, Treasurer, Secretary and Vice President of Nelnet Student Loan Corp- 2. He serves as President, Executive Director and Principal Executive Officer of Nelnet Education Loan Funding Inc. He served as the Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President of Nelnet, Inc. Mr. Heimes served as Principal Accounting Officer of Nelnet, Inc. He served as Executive Vice President of Nelnet Inc.'s subsidiary National Education Loan Network Inc., or NELNI, from March 2001 to October 2002. Since October 1998, he served as Vice President of Finance at National Education Loan Network Inc., a subsidiary of Nelnet. Prior to NEBHELP, Mr. Heimes served for the public accounting firm of KPMG LLP through 1992 as a Manager in the audit department. He served as Executive Director of Nelnet, Inc. from March 2001 to August 2003. Mr. Heimes graduated magna cum laude from the University of Nebraska-Kearney with a B.S. degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting in 1986.
