Executive Bio

Mr. Gyanendra Sharma has been Managing Director of New Delhi at Northrop Grumman International Inc. and Northrop Grumman Corporation since September 2007. Mr. Sharma serves as Country Director of India Northrop Grumman International Inc. He serves as Vice President of the Indian Navy Foundation. Mr. Sharma, who retired as Commodore of the Indian Navy in 2002, spent over 34 years with the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and Ministry of Defence. He has held several prestigious appointments in the Indian Naval Headquarters, including Director of Naval Air Staff, Director of Aircraft Acquisition and Deputy Director General Defence Planning Staff. He also served as Director of Aviation for the Indian Coast Guard, where he was instrumental in consolidating the air operations of that service. A Naval Aviator, he began his career flying fixed-wing aircraft with the Indian Navy. During his tenure in the Navy, he received several letters of Commendation by Commanders-in-Chiefs. In 2003, he was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal by President APJ Abdul Kalam in recognition of his distinguished service in the armed forces. He served on the initial consolidated team, which brought the Sea King helicopter into Indian Navy. He served as Vice President of Greaves Cotton, an engineering technology firm. Having spent his initial years operating from aircraft carriers and commanding front line naval air-squadrons, He has also held command of Indian Naval warships and operated in the Andaman Islands, in the Bay of Bengal. Mr. Sharma earned an Undergraduate Degree in Economics from Lucknow University and is an alumnus of the Defense Services Staff College, Wellington. He also completed the Naval Higher Command Course at College of Naval Warfare, Mumbai and Senior Defense Management Course at College of Defence Management, Secunderabad. In 2006, he was nominated to undertake a Senior Executive Program at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
