  • Using PIRYX/RALLY does not necessarily affect your taxes. PIRYX/RALLY helps you organize your payments and under certain circumstances will issue you Form 1099-K, a requirement from the IRS. Form 1099-K is the IRSs information return for reporting the movement of funds.

How should I use the information from the 1099-K form?

PIRYX/RALLY will not report the funds that you collected as earned income. The 1099-K form is simply intended to track the movement of funds. It is up to you (and a tax professional) to determine whether your proceeds represent taxable income.

What if I only receive gifts and donations?

The purpose of Form 1099-K is to report payments for the provision of goods or services, which may be subject to tax. Gifts and donations typically are not reported as income by recipients. It is up to you (and a tax professional) to determine whether your proceeds represent taxable income.

Setting a donation goal can inspire your supporters to give and help spread the word about your Rally. Yet it's important to establishclear and realistic goals for your campaign, since huge goals can intimidate your donors. Think about what, exactly, you are fundraising for: The more specific you can be about the person, project, or initiative the Rally donations will go toward, the more accurately you can estimate what your fundraising goal should be.

Also considerthe donating power of your users and potential contributors: Who is your campaign geared toward: friends, coworkers, family, the general public? Thinkabout how much your audience can give and whether they can afford to repeatedly donate.

A few things to note about setting a goal:

    Setting a goal is optional.

You can choose to create a goal for a certain dollar amount or a specific number of donors.

You can add, remove, or change your goal at any time during the life of your Rally.

Only donations processed via Rally.org will be reflected in your goal. The goal cannot be manipulated to reflect offline contributions orgifts from other websites.

You do not have to reach your goal to claim your funds. You get all the fundsyou'veraised even if you have not met your goal.

The default goal amount for your Rally is set at $2,500. You can change or edit this goal from within the Settings tab of your Rally. To do this, choose Basicfrom the drop-down options and edit your goal amount under Fundraising Goal.

You have uploaded a compelling background image.

    You have completed your Rallydescription.

    Now you're ready!

The most successful way to ask for support is in person. Picking up the phone, sendinga text, writing a Facebook message, or sending a personal email are also very powerful.Identify 4 or 5 key players in your life (best friend, family member, classmate, neighbor, co-worker) that would be the first to donate and help you spread your story.

Have you considered asking these people?

    Coworkers

    Facebook friends

    Friends from school/classes

    Family members/family friends

    Address-book contacts

    Neighbors
