  • This: "Red Hat is a fast moving company with passionate, dedicated staff. Work life balance is respected and valued top down, it's mostly up to the individual to draw the line though. "

  • The biggest problem I have with work/life balance at Red Hat is that there is a lot of overlap between my personal and professional interests. I have to remind myself that this is a self-imposed trap. No one is making me write code or read industry news on the weekend; when I do, it's from my own choice.

Not broadly. It depends on geo, region, sector, and job role. Typically a basic background check will be done for any new hire. Customer facing roles may need to do drug tests at any time, or deep background checks in industries like federal government, financial services, etc.

As long as I'm getting my work done and able to attend meetings or pair with coworkers, I am able to work earlier or later depending on what my personal schedule needs. Or I can run out to do an errand, like drop off or pick up my child from daycare, and come back and finish my work day.

Amazing! Most people fight for Open Source and freedom of Intellectual Property; yet we manage to make good money while sharing it all. The occasional new manager who thinks he can make more money by adding barriers not understanding how this works, either learns or doesn't last long. We're relatively free to explore and challenge every technical aspect. There's no much politics, it's simply structured so that technically superior solutions (eventually) win.
