Samsara's Frequently Asked Questions page is a central hub where its customers can always go to with their most common questions. These are the 398 most popular questions Samsara receives.
DTC's, or Diagnostic Trouble Codes, are used by automobile manufacturers to diagnose problems related to the vehicle. They are how the OBD-II (in light duty vehicles) or J1939 (in heavy duty vehicles) identifies and communicates to technicians where and what on-board problems exist.
The first number in the DTC indicates whether the code is an SAE generic code (applies to all OBD-II systems) or is specific to the vehicle manufacturer. The remaining three numbers provide information regarding the specific vehicle system and circuit.
The Samsara vehicle gateway plugs directly into the OBD-II or the J1939 port of a vehicle and can thus relay any information regarding any DTC directly to the Samsara Dashboard. Furthermore, alerts can be triggered in the event that a DTC occurs by using the "Vehicle Fault" alert.
Please note that while Samsara can tell you which DTCs a vehicle is reporting, your best resource for interpreting and addressing a specific DTC is the dealership or manufacturer of the vehicle.

View ArticleIn order to help drivers to keep track of how long it will be until they can start driving, Samsara has a "Rest Screen" which tracks how long they have until they regain hours to drive.Using this setting will give drivers more confidence that they have waited the full 30 minutes before their driving time will reset.
The screen has five components to it. Starting from top to bottom they are:
The current driver and vehicle, as per other screens in the app
The current duty status and time in that duty status, as per other screens in the app
The amount of time until a driver's 30 minute rest break is completed
The amount of time until the driver's shift resets, and they are able to start a new day of hours
The amount of time until the driver's cycle resets and they get a new cycle of hours back
Rest Screen
The screen will automatically appear when a driver goes Off Duty from any screen in the app. Drivers can navigate back to the screen by entering the HOS section of the app from the home screen and tapping "Return to Rest Mode" at the top of the screen.
Drivers are able to turn off this feature by navigating to the settings menu in their app and toggling off the Auto-Open Driving Screen setting.
View ArticleYou can upload a CSV file with up to 1,000 rows to create a large number of routes quickly. Simply look for theBulk Operations menu from the Routes page in the Samsara Cloud Dashboard.
Bulk uploading routes requires that you follow a set template to ensure that all of the correct information is provided to create routes, though we offer some flexibility.
At a high-level, each row in the file represents a stop on a route, with multiple rows collectively representing an entire route. The first row for a given route represents the starting location & time. The following columns must exist in the file and be named as such in the top row of the file:
Route Name: This field must be filled in.
Assigned Driver Username: This field can be blank. If both Assigned Driver Username and Assigned Vehicle Name are blank, the route will be created as unassigned. However, both of these columns should not be filled in as a route can only be assigned to either a driver or a vehicle.
Assigned Vehicle Name: This field can be blank. If both Assigned Driver Username and Assigned Vehicle Name are blank, the route will be created as unassigned. However, both of these columns should not be filled in as a route can only be assigned to either a driver or a vehicle.
Stop Name:This field should be blank for the first row in each route (the route start location) but should be filled in for the remaining rows in the route.
Stop Arrival Time: This field must be filled in. For the first row of a route, this field represents the Scheduled Start Time for the entire route. The date/time must be provided in the following format: yyyy-mm-dd 00:00 (where the time should use a 24-hour format e.g. 5pm on Feb 1, 2019 would be represented as 2019-02-01 17:00)
Stop Departure Time: This field is optional and can be left blank. For the first row of a route, this field represents the Scheduled End Time for the entire route. The date/time must be provided in the following format: yyyy-mm-dd 00:00 (where the time should use a 24-hour format e.g. 5pm on Feb 1, 2019 would be represented as 2019-02-01 17:00)
Stop Notes: This field can be blank.
Address Name: This field can be blank. If filled in, this route stop will be created using the geofence of the Address Book entry with the same name.(If not using the Address Book entry with the Address Name field, all three fields below, Latitude, Longitude and Full Address are required for successful upload.)
Latitude: This field can be blank but is required if no Address Name is provided. The Latitude, Longitude, & Full Address fields can be used to create a route stop without relying on an Address Book entry.
Longitude: This field can be blank but is required if no Address Name is provided. The Latitude, Longitude, & Full Address fields can be used to create a route stop without relying on an Address Book entry.
Full Address: This field can be blank but is required if no Address Name is provided. The Latitude, Longitude, & Full Address fields can be used to create a route stop without relying on an Address Book entry.
To aid in understanding the route file format, you can reference the attached Excel file at the bottom of this article and the image below.
Additional formatting notes:
There are two tabs the first one represents creating routes using the Address Book and the second one represents creating routes using raw addresses (Latitude, Longitude, Full Address). It is also possible to mix & match these two methods in one file (with some rows using the Address Book and other rows using raw addresses).
For both example tabs, you will need to replace the Assigned Driver Username inputs in the file with real driver usernames for your organization, or the uploadwon'twork. Alternatively, you can delete the driver usernames in that column and create the routes as unassigned.
To upload to the dashboard, the CSV file must have one tab only.
Youcan'tupload an Excel file to the dashboard, so when youre done putting together the file, youll have to save the active tab that youre using as a CSV file and then upload that file.

View ArticleFuel Usage Report
TheFuel Usagereport shows information about the fuel usage of drivers or vehicles in the fleet. This includes the vehicle name, current driver, current fuel level, the amount of fuel used, estimated cost, engine run time, idle time, and percent time idle. The report can be run by the hour, day, week, month, or any custom time period.
Current Fuel Level: Percentage representing current fuel level out of total available fuel level.
Fuel Used: Fuel used in a specific time frame.
Fuel Efficiency: A driver or vehicle's miles per gallon in a specific time frame.
Est. Cost:The estimated fuel cost is based on a national average of the cost of fuel and is updated weekly.
Engine Run Time: The amount of time for which the engine is loaded (vehicle is running or PTO is operating).
Idle Time: Idle time is the amount of time that the engine is on but not loaded. Idle is an engine status that is reported by the vehicle's ECM/ECU (the states are on/off/idle) - when a vehicle switches to idle and the idle time exceeds 2 minutes, idle time is captured and reported. Idle time less than 2 minutes is not reported.
Percent Time Idle: Idle Time divided by Engine Run Time + Idle Time * 100.
Adding the values of the Engine Run Time and Idle Time columns will give the total time for which the engine is on, powered or idling.

Fuel Purchase Report
The Fuel Purchase Reportis available on your dashboard by navigating toFleet > Reports > Fuel Purchases . An administrator will need to in a CSV file in order to sync with the dashboard. The fuel purchase report shows a few things:
All uploaded fuel purchase amounts, cost, time, and location
Fuel purchase verification:this lets you know if a vehicle from your fleet was nearby at the time of purchase. Verified purchases will include a link to the proximity search that verified the purchase. Unverified means no vehicle was nearby.
Invalid purchases:these are purchases where the address or other data may be invalid and the purchase was unable to be marked as verified. As an administrator you may manually edit a file to correct typos or address errors and re-upload - the report will resolve the duplicated uploads and if the address is valid, verify the purchase.
Currently, the fuel card upload only generates a report that shows fuel purchases their verification status. This report can be exported to CSV from More Actions. It does not add fuel data to the IFTA report or integrate with other reports.

Note: please use Google Chrome for optimal results.
Setting a master image
Begin by selecting the Camera tab in the top right navigation bar, bringing you to a live view of what your camera currently sees. Place a product youd like to inspect within the cameras field of view, then use the Focus and Internal Light settings on the right side to produce a clear view of your product.
Once youre satisfied with the image, click on Set as Master Image at the bottom of the screen to set the current view as the master image. The page will automatically bring you to the Inspect tab.
Configuring an inspection
Once youre on the Inspect tab, click on the Add Inspection button to bring up a list of available inspection tools. Selecting one will bring up the specific settings for that tool.
In the example below, Ive selected the Text tool which now provides me with an adjustable bounding box and tool-specific settings on the right side. Onceyou'veadjusted these settings for your specific image, click on the Save button at the bottom to make this inspection active. If youd like, you can create and save additional inspections in this tab.
Testing on captured images
Onceyou'vesaved your desired inspections, navigate to the Test tab on the top right. Clicking on the Take a Picture button will capture an image of the view your camera currently sees and apply your saved inspections.
Captured images that pass your inspections will be highlighted in green, while those that fail will be highlighted in red. The Results column on the right provides a summary of inspection outcomes, and if you return to the Inspect tab to change any inspections, you can rerun your previously captured images against your new inspections.

View ArticleThe Vehicle Gateway license includes up to 500MB/month of Wi-Fi data for both Enterprise customers and Express customers. It enables fleets to utilize connected software to improve productivity and customer service. It also allows you to deploy productivity apps including work order management, customer relationship management (CRM), emails, and messaging. Samsara reserves the right to limit access to personal entertainment streaming services. After the data limit is reached, the wifi hotspot will no longer be available to applications besides the Samsara Driver App. We have found that the 500MB of data usage should be more than sufficient to support routine use of work productivity applications. Usage of the Samsara Driver App does not count against the data limit and the Driver App will remain fully functional regardless of if the data limit is exceeded.
After the data limit is exceeded your devices wifi management menu may indicate that there is no internet connection despite the fact that the device is connected to the hotspot. This is expected behavior and not an indication that the Driver App will have issues functioning. When are the Samsara Cameras Recording?
Samsara Cameras, or CMs, record while the vehicle is driving or on a trip. For a vehicle to be considered driving they must be moving at a speed of 5mph or more. Once the vehicle reaches this speed, the camera will start recording. While recording, a still image is automatically uploaded to the cloud every 2 minutes.
Videos are uploaded during the following circumstances:
Harsh event : Crashes, harsh braking, harsh acceleration, and harsh turning events
Video Retrieval: A video retrieval request is made
View ArticleYes, Samsara complies with the ELD mandate, and will continue to be compliant as additional regulations take affect in the coming years.
The ELD mandate has two primary milestones. By December 17th, 2017, all vehicles subject to the mandate must record hours of service electronically. The recording device must comply with a set of regulations known as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 49 CFR 395.15 for automatic on-board recording devices.
On December 17, 2019 additional regulations take affect regarding the recording of data directly from the vehicle's engine, and automatically transmitting data to the Department of Transportation.
Samsara is certified to be compliant withRegulation 49 CFR 395.15 (the December 2017 requirement.) Importantly, Samsara also includes the hardware and software to record data directly from the vehicle's engine, required for the final 2019 regulation. So customers will continue to be compliant as the second phase of regulations take affect in 2019. The software functionality to automatically transmit logs to the DOT will be added as a free, automatic, over-the-air update well in advance of the requirement.
To summarize, Samsara customers are fully compliant with the regulations prescribed in the ELD mandate, and will continue to be compliant as additional regulations take affect in 2019.

Trailer Name: this is a unique identifier for each name. It appears on this page how it will appear to your drivers in the driver app.
Linked AG: this is an optional association with a Samsara Asset Gateway for increased fleet tracking and connected visibility.
CreatedBy andCreated On: these shows the date of creation and user who created a trailer, for visibility into the source of data available in this portal
The Trailer Management portal allows the following actions for each trailer:
Edit: this allows updates or edits to the Trailer Name and associated Asset Gateway
Disable / Enable: this allows the trailer to be hidden from selection in the Driver App, or removed to the selection list. Trailers that are disabled from selection will still retain all completed DVIRs and other associated logs. Use this option for trailers created by mistake or trailers no longer in your fleet.
Creating Trailers in Samsara
To create trailers, go to Settings > Trailers & Assets. From this page, you can create trailers individually or in bulk. To create a trailer individually, select Add Trailerand input a name for the new trailer. You may optionally associate the trailer with a Samsara AG at this time (see below).
Creating Trailers Using CSV Upload
To create trailers in bulk, create a CSV file with four columns: ID, Name, Linked AG, and Trailer Selection.
The ID column should remainblank to create a new trailer; only include ID if a trailer already exists in the portal and you would like to update it.
The Name column should contain the unique name for the trailer.
The Linked AG column should contain the serial number of the Asset Gateway you would like to associate to the trailer. Note: the name of the Linked AG will override any trailer name in the Name column.
The Trailer Selection column should say "enabled" or "disabled" for each trailer, indicating if it is available for selection in the Driver App.
Once you're ready to upload your CSV file, please navigate to Settings > Assets and Trailers >Select the More Actionsbutton, thenUpload CSV.
Linking Trailers to Associated Asset Gateways
To link a trailer to an AG, select Edit for the trailer and select the desired AG from the dropdown list of AGs in your fleet.
Disabling Selection for Specific Trailers
To disallow selection of the trailer in the Driver App, while retaining all records for the trailer in the Samsara system, select the "Disable" button for the trailer. If you later decide to enable the trailer, you can select the "Disabled" tab of the trailer list and select "Enable" for a single trailer.
Enabling Trailer Selection for Driver App
You can turn on or off trailer management for your fleet using the switch at the top of the Trailer Management portal.
Note: This will change the appearance of some pages in the Driver App. It will add a "Trailer" tab to the Vehicle Selection screen, and allow DVIRs to be completed for a trailer alone. To avoid confusion, it is best to ensure your drivers understand these changes before making this change.
To learn more about Trailer Selection in the Driver App before turning this on for a fleet, read our Knowledge Base article.
Maintenance with Trailers
With trailer selection, DVIRs for trailers will be reported alongside DVIRs for vehicles, with defects and resolutions following the .
Viewing Trailer DVIRs
Trailer DVIRs can be found in the Dashboard under Fleet > Maintenance > DVIR.
DVIRs are listed here for the vehicle or trailer that the driver had selected when creating their DVIR.
View ArticleSamsara dash cams are HD cameras designed to improve fleet safety, exonerate drivers and lower accident-related costs. Cameras allow fleets to see photos and videos recorded when a vehicle is on a trip.
Before requesting a video retrieval please note the following
The camera and gateway must be connected.
CM11, CM12, and CM31 models can hold up to 24 hours of footage and CM22 and CM32 models can hold up to 40 hours of footage.
Videos will not be available for retrieval after these drive times are met.
Enabling camera audio in CM22 and CM32 models will reduce available storage to 37 hours.
Cameras only record while the vehicle is on a trip.
The trip must be completed before a retrieval can be made.
Requests from an in-progress trip cannot be made.
A video retrieval pulls 60 seconds of video starting at the time selected in the retrievalrequest. Please see Requesting a Hyperlapse to request video for a longer period.
Requesting Video
1. Navigate to Fleets > Reports > Video Retrieval
2. Click Request Video Retrieval
3. Select the vehicle, date and timeof the incident
You will get 60 seconds of the video starting from the selected time.
You may need to make several requests to cover a longer time frame.
4. Click Request
Video Status
Waiting on device-Waiting for the device to power on and find the proper connections to upload the video
Please note that the vehicle must be on for the video to upload
No video found - This can happen when:
There was no trip during that time frame so the camera was not recording
The video during that time frame has been overwritten
The request is from an in-progress trip
Completed- The video was successfully uploaded to the cloud
How Long Does it Take for a Video to be Retrieved?
As noted above, the gateway and camera must be connected for a video to be retrieved. Once a connection has been made the vehicle mustbe powered on for the gateway to upload the video to the cloud.
A number of factors might slow down the video retrieval:
Is the vehicle at a location with a good cellular connection?
How many videos were requested at once?
Requesting a large number of videos at once for one gateway can cause the video retrieval to slow down substantially. For quicker video retrieval, do not make more than three video requests at once.

View ArticleSamsara uses the concept oftags to create logical separation of drivers, gateways and sensors into appropriate groupings.
Most configuration happens at the tag level, such as alerts, reports, and dispatch all. However, administrative roles can be set at both theTaglevel and the Organizationlevel and can be used for several different purposes.
Below is a description of each of the different types of administrative roles, how to configure them, and the specific levels of access that each role receives:
Organization Admins:
To create a new Organization Admin, select Settings > Admins > +Add an organizational administrator.
Enter the email address for the new administrator, and select the role that this administrator should receive. The screenshot below shows the screen for creating a new Admin, and the descriptions below that outline what each role means.
Organization Full Admin:
Organization full admins have the ability to make any and all configuration changes throughout the entire organization. Some changes include adding drivers, renaming devices, creating/deleting tags, and changing anything in the orgs Settings page. Organization full admins have full access to all tags within the organization.
Org Full Admin (No Dash Cam Access) has access to what is described above with the exception to viewing or retrieving dash cam images or footage.
Read-Only Admin:
Read-only administrators have the ability to view everything across all tags in organization, but are unable to make any configuration changes.
Read Only Admin (No Dash Cam Access) has access to what is described above with the exception to viewing or retrieving dash cam images or footage.
Dispatch:
Dispatch Admins have read-only access to the Fleet section of the Dashboard, minus the Reports and Maintenance tabs, and with the added ability to dispatch vehicles to a particular location from the Dispatch tab.
Maintenance:
Maintenance Admins have limited access to the Environment and Fleet sections of the Dashboard (minus the Reports tab). They have the addedability to view the maintenance logs and create new entries under the Maintenance tab, as well as the ability to edit sensor informationunderthe Environment tab.
Tag Admins:
Administrators added to a specific tag are unable to access gateways, drivers, and/or sensors outside of that tag. The exact same concepts of Maintenance, Dispatch, Read-Only and Full administrators exist, except at the tag level, rather than at the organization level.
To create a new tag administrator, select Settings > Tags> +Add user to tag in the tag you want to add a new tagged admin. Enter the email address and select the role for the taggedadmin.

View ArticleThere are times when Fleet Managers are interested in reviewing longer spans of drive time than the standard one-minute video retrieval. Hyperlapse is an innovative way to enable up to one-hour footage retrievals without sacrificing expedited, streamlined review.
Hyperlapse videos allow you to quickly review footage, find important events, or zero in on incidents that are more than a minute long. They are a great tool if you are not sure when an incident happened. Using the time overlay on Hyperlapse footage, you can zoom in on a particular time frame by following up with a standard one-minute retrieval at that start time.
To access this feature, go to Fleet > Reports > Video Retrieval.
Click Request Video Retrieval.
Select the vehicle, date, and start time for the incident of interest. At the bottom, toggle on Request hyperlapse.
If the video is available, a green checkmark will be displayed:
Specify a duration. You can request hyperlapse videos ranging from 5 minutes to 1 hour of drive time. Longer durations will require more time to process and download, so the more specific the duration, the more efficient the retrieval time.
The time overlay is available in the bottom left corner of the video. This can help identify the exact time frame an event occurs:
View ArticleIn Summary
In accordance with the ELD mandate, edits to a driver's log cannot be suggested until after the driver has certified their log.
Beginning on December 18th, 2017, the following steps are required to complete an edit:
A driver certifies their daily log
The carrier makes corrections to the driver's log
The driver is notified of the changes and can accept or reject the suggested corrections
Please note:
You cannot suggest corrections to a log that has not yet been certified by the driver. See "Uncertified Logs & Queued Edits" below for more detail.
Drivers cannot edit certified logs
Admins can edit up to 30 days of certified logs (the driver will be prompted to accept/reject these edits)
ELD Mandate on Driver Approvals
The ELD mandate requires driver approval of edits suggested by a carrier. Specifically, 49 CFR 395.30 (d) 1-2 requires:
"A driver must confirm or reject any proposed change... in order for any motor carrier-proposed changes to take effect."
"A motor carrier may not request edits to the driver's electronic records before the records have been submitted by the driver."
Samsara complies with this regulation by allowing carriers to suggest edits to a driver's log only after it has been certified.
How it Works
Driver approval introduces significant changes to the correction process used by devices prior to the mandate. We've made it simple to conduct this process using the steps below.
Step 1: Driver Certifies their Log
At the end of a driver's day, the driver certifies their log from the HOS > Log screen in the Samsara Driver app.
Step 2: You Make Corrections in the Dashboard
Navigate to Fleet > Reports > Driver HOS, then click on the driver and date range of interest.
Certified Log
Once a driver has certified their log, the "Missing Driver Certification" violation will be cleared and a "Certified by..." timestamp will appearabove the log itself.
To make a correction:
1. ClickEdit near the top-right corner of the log, or to the right of any individual segment
2. In the following window, select a Start and End Timeof the edit (this selects the beginning and end of the segment you are modifying). You may click the left and right arrows to quickly jump to the next time segment.
3. Select the Status you want to apply to this time segment (if only editing vehicle assignment, you can leave the status as is).
4. Select the Vehicle that should be assigned to the driver during this time segment. If the current vehicle assignment is correct, select 'Unchanged.' To remove a vehicle assignment, select None.
5. Type a brief explanatoryRemark about the edit.
6. Click Save.
7. Once the correction has been saved, a Show Pending Editsand HidePending Edits option can be used to toggle between views of the original log and the corrected log. Your pending edit will be highlighted yellow until it is reviewed and accepted by the driver.
Uncertified Logs & Queued Edits
As required by the ELD mandate, the carrier cannot suggest edits to an uncertified log, however you can still queue edits for a driver to review upon certifying their log.
Queue an edit to an uncertified log by following the editing workflow above. While you work on the edits a bubble will appear in the editing window advising you that the log is still uncertified. As soon as the driver certifies their log, they will be prompted to review your edits.
Step 3: Driver Reviews Corrections
Once a correction has been saved by the carrier, the correction is pushed to the driver's mobile device in the Driver App.
1. The driver see will a red banner labeled "Review Carrier Edits" on the main HOS screen as well as on any individual log where pending edits exist.
2. The driver taps"Review Carrier Edits" to Accept or Reject the edits. If they do not view the edits here, they are prompted again immediatelybefore Sign Out.
3. The log you edited will open, prompting the driver to review your changes and re-certify. They can switch betweenEdited Log andOriginal Log to compare your changes with the original.
4. If more than one edit exists on the log, the driver may tap the checkmark or x next to each edited segment to accept or reject that individual segment. To reject all edits, they must tap thex next to each edited segment.
5. The driver selects "Certify and Submit" at the bottom of the screen.

View ArticleIn the case that you have retired a vehicle or you have a temporary rental vehicle that you would like to install a gateway in that has previously been used in a different vehicle, please follow the steps below to ensure that your data is logged appropriately in the dashboard.
Please note: these instructions only apply for previously-installed gateways and vehicles. Please use installation instructions for initial gateway installation and setup.
Note on Vehicles vs. Gateways
Gateway: the Samsara device which collects GPS, sensor, diagnostic, and dash camera data. The gateway sends data to the Samsara Dashboard.
Vehicle: the object in the Samsara Dashboard which contains the historic and current GPS, HoS, sensor, diagnostic, and dash camera data.
Moving a Samsara VG from One Vehicle to Another
In the Samsara Dashboard, deactivate the gateway from the old vehicle: go to Settings > Gateways and find the Gateway in the table. On the right side of the table, select the three dots and select "Deactivate Gateway". *Make a note of the serial that you deactivated. This will retain all drive data to this vehicle, and allow you to configure the gateway to save all new data to the new vehicle.
Install the Samsara VG in the desired vehicle. Do not drive the vehicle until you have completed all of the tasks below.
Reactivate the Gateway into your organization. You can do this through cloud.samsara.com/activate or by going toSettings > Gateways and selecting "Activate Devices".
[Optional] Re-name the Vehicle associated with the Gateway. On the right side of the table, select the three dots, and then select "Settings". Enter the Vehicle Name into the box, and select Save.
You may now drive the vehicle. All driving, GPS, diagnostics, and maintenance data from this point forward will be saved to that vehicle.
The old vehicle will still show on theGateways page, but if you wish to not see them in the list, you can selectHide Unpaired Assets to temporarily remove those vehicles without a gateway from your view.
*in the below example, Bamboo is the vehicle with the deactivated gateway, and Bonsai is the new vehicle with the original gateway installed

The ELD mandate requires that a user manual and driver instruction sheet are available in the vehicle's cab
Electronic copies of the manual can be electronically distributed to drivers from the Samsara archive: User Manual | DOT Instruction Sheet
ELD Mandate: Required In-vehicle Information
In 49 CFR 395.22, the ELD mandate requires that every ELD-equipped vehicle must have documents describing how a driver can operate the device, including:
A user manual for the ELD
A driver instruction sheet describing:
How to operate the ELD in the event of an inspection; and
ELD "malfunction reporting requirements" and "recordkeeping procedures during ELD malfunctions"
While the user manual can be electronic (i.e. on the device), for customers who have purchased Samsara devices before the ELD implementation date, Samsara is making ELD Cab Kits available to its customers free-of-charge, while supplies last.

The FMCSA has also clarified that the manuals may be made available to drivers in the vehicle in electronic form. Downloading a copy of both manuals to devices running the Samsara app will also allow you to meet this requirement.
Samsara's ELD Cab Kit
Samsara's ELD Cab Kit can be requested through your Samsara Sales Representative. It includes both of the printed materials required by the mandate.

View ArticleIf your fleet has vehicles equipped with the CM-22 or CM-32 Dual-Facing Samsara Dashcams, you can use Camera ID to assist you in assigning Unassigned HOS.
Initially, you will have to manually identify drivers to ensure accuracy when lighting, body pose, clothing, and other physical attributes change.
After identifying and assigning a driver 5-10 times to train the Camera ID, Samsara's dashcams will begin automatically recognizing and assigning their names with their faces with high accuracy. You will now see the name of the driver recognized by the dashcam within each driving segment in the column labeled Camera ID:
please visit here
Now, when selecting Assign for each driving segment, you will notice within the driver selection box a Suggested driver is chosen, identified by Camera ID. (note: driver's face is blurred to protect driver privacy)Select a duty status and click Save to confirm the segment assignment.
Some additional info:
Per ELD mandate, Camera ID does not automatically assign drivers to unassigned HOS segments, therefore admins will still be required to confirm whether the suggested driver is accurately displayed.
If an assigned driver is recognized incorrectly the correct driver will not be able to overwrite existing driver assignments, therefore if a driver logs into the driver app and selects the wrong vehicle, the driver or fleet admin will have to fix that assignment manually.
Assigning a driver to a trip will not automatically assign a corresponding unassigned HOS segment. However, assigning an unassigned HOS segmentwillassign that driver to any corresponding trip.
