David C. Thorbahn has served as the President and C.E.O of Select Sires Inc. since January 2000. During his tenure, the Select Sires federation sales have tripled. He has led Select Sires to earn the Governors Excellence in Exporting award, Exporter of the Year for the state of Ohio, and the Union County Business of the Year award.
Thorbahn has been active in supporting the dairy industry. He was a founding committee member for the North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge and the Union County Agriculture Association where he served both organizations as their first Chairman. Thorbahn has also served as a member of the advisory committee for the Ohio Director of Agriculture, past president for the National Association of Animal Breeders and the Union County Chamber of Commerce. He is a former board member of World Dairy Expo, National Dairy Shrine, Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding, and was a member of The Ohio State University Dairy Science Advisory Committee.
Thorbahn was born and raised on a registered Holstein farm in Vickery, Ohio. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University where he received the University Alumni’s highest honor as a recipient of the Outstanding Senior award. Thorbahn also received his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Thorbahn was awarded The Ohio State University Young Professional Achievement award and The Ohio State University Distinguished Alumni award. In 2010, Thorbahn received the Union County Business Leader of the Year from the Union County Chamber of Commerce.
Thorbahn and his wife Nancy reside in Plain City, Ohio and have two daughters, Jenna and Kelsey. Thorbahn’s family are active members of Northwest Presbyterian Church.
