Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

It's understood that in a startup, you work for low pay, shares, and have undefined roles with various mixed responsibilities. But with each funding round, and each year, compensation never went up (not even in shares). Recognition is sparse, and shows of appreciation are also equally sparse.
