Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility at Sitecore

To deepen our commitment, we are expanding our existing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to a comprehensive Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) program. Sitecore’s ESG Program will include measurable goals, policies, and a comprehensive action plan, and will focus on key areas of ESG including resource reduction, stakeholder engagement, health and well-being, carbon reduction, DEI, procurement, customer/client privacy and security, and green building certifications.

Energy reduction
Where feasible, we have begun tracking energy consumption data for all sites to measure progress against our reduction goals. The majority of our office spaces have LED lighting and efficient appliances while some spaces are powered by renewable energy sources including solar, wind, and water.

Employee engagement is also a crucial part of energy usage reduction. Employees are encouraged to switch everything off when leaving (including low-energy equipment like monitors in standby mode, cell phone chargers, and surge protectors).

Waste reduction
42% of Sitecore facilities have waste diversion infrastructure with 83% of them implementing recycling practices and working with third party vendors to recycle old furniture and supplies. Many offices utilize reusable cutlery and dishes as well as purchase goods with recycled content. Several spaces also provide filtered water to cut down on plastic waste and provide safe drinking water to employees.

Although sometimes challenging as a tenant, Sitecore will work with landlords to secure data to track waste and ask for increased recycling programs where we feel we could be doing better.

Water
Sitecore is on track to achieve our goal that 90% of Sitecore's global real estate portfolio will be equipped with low-flow fixtures by 2023, and 95% by 2025. In addition, where applicable, Sitecore has installed water and energy efficient dishwashers to further reduce usage.

Sitecore engaged third party specialists to complete a GHG emissions baseline and develop a GHG Implementation Plan. The assessment evaluates the following areas: utility consumption at our office sites, purchased goods and services, employee commutes, business travel, and fuel and energy-related activities.

Sitecore pledged to neutralize our business travel and data center usage carbon footprint through various charitable organizations that offset our carbon emissions to achieve 100% carbon neutrality. To date, we have donated 10,000 trees to Plant a Billion and supported 3 verified carbon offset projects through Cool Effect to offset 4 times the amount of our quarterly business travel emissions (101.8 metric tons CO2e).

Sitecore has also partnered with ReforestAction to sponsor projects, including a forest, that will have a strong environmental and economic impact for the surrounding communities.

We know if we are not being intentionally inclusive, then we are being unintentionally exclusive. We believe that everything we do and every decision we make must be done with thoughtful intention. The trust we’ve built within and across our teams enables us to challenge both ourselves and one another to always strive for better when it comes to inclusivity and belonging.

We’ve taken steps with intention to further our beliefs by delivering instructor-led unconscious bias and inclusive hiring training, including diversity in ongoing townhalls and panel discussions, and supporting multiple diversity groups including Women@, Pride@ and Latinos@Sitecore. We’ve published a global diversity awareness calendar; we have forums to celebrate and recognize diverse voices, and we highlight employees giving back around the world. We also have mentoring programs for women, pairing them with executives.

We have also developed partnerships with Plan International and UN Women in order to support gender equality initiatives globally and create new opportunities for women struggling with oppression and discrimination.
