Mr. John L. Gardiner is a Partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, L.L.P. Mr. Gardiner represents clients in commercial disputes in both federal and state courts in the United States, as well as before domestic and international arbitral tribunals such as the International Chamber of Commerce and the American Arbitration Association. In addition to being admitted to practice in New York, Mr. Gardiner is admitted to practice law in the Republic of Ireland, England and Wales. Among the varied cases Mr. Gardiner has handled, a great number have involved allegations of fraud, breach of contract, theft of trade secrets and other related matters. Mr. Gardiner has litigated such cases both as plaintiff's counsel and as defendant's counsel. Clients Mr. Gardiner has represented include Citigroup Inc., Salomon Smith Barney Inc., Enron Corp., Deloitte & Touche LLP, Elektrim S.A., Laser Industries Limited, Hoechst A.G., representatives of the estate of Dr. Arthur M. Sackler and many others. From an industry perspective, Mr. Gardiner has represented clients in auditing and accounting disputes, energy and project finance litigation and arbitration, and telecommunications and securities matters. He also has acted as a mediator in complicated corporate and partnership separation situations and has participated as counsel in many successful mediations both domestically and internationally. Mr. Gardiner has advised clients in complicated corporate litigations including takeover contests and related shareholder litigation, and also has participated as defense counsel in various class actions involving alleged violations of the federal securities laws. Mr. Gardiner has represented clients in investigations before the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. In addition to his general corporate litigation experience, Mr. Gardiner has handled multi-million dollar disputes before the Surrogate's Courts of New York. Mr. Gardiner is co-chair of the Practising Law Institute panel on Current Developments in Federal Civil Practice, is a member of United States Council for International Business, and is a past member of the Council on Judicial Administration of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He speaks frequently at seminars on a variety of litigation topics.
