Executive Bio

Dr. Katherine A. High, also known as Kathy, M.D., has been the President and Chief Scientific Officer at Spark Therapeutics, Inc. since September 16, 2014. Dr. High serves as Head of R&D of Spark Therapeutics, Inc. She served as Scientific Co-Founder and Advisor at Spark Therapeutics, Inc. She began her career the molecular basis of blood coagulation and the development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of bleeding disorders studies. Her work has evolved to encompass clinical translation of genetic therapies for multiple inherited disorders. As the Director of the Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. High assembled and leads a multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers working to discover new gene and cell therapies for genetic diseases and to facilitate rapid translation of pre-clinical discoveries into clinical application. Dr. High served a five-year term on the FDA Advisory Committee on Cell, Tissue and Gene Therapies. She was President of the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy (ASGCT). She has been a Director at Spark Therapeutics, Inc. since September 2014. She serves as Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Amsterdam Molecular Therapeutics (AMT) Holding N.V. She served as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at bluebird bio, Inc. since March 2011. She served as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since November 2013. She served as Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Benitec Biopharma Limited since March 16, 2005 and Tacere Therapeutics, Inc. She received her A.B. degree in chemistry from Harvard, M.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, business certification from the UNC Business School Management Institute for Hospital Administrators and Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
