  • Q:Are all samples on Splice Sounds royalty-free?

A:Yes. You have a broad royalty-free license for every sample that you download from Splice Sounds.

Q:Can I use these samples for commercial use?

A:The license for samples you download from Splice Sounds can be used for commercial and non-commercial usesso long as you comply with our Terms of Use.

Q: What are the limitations of this license?

A:You may not use Sounds as standalone sound effects or loops, or to create new samples or compete with Splice or our sample providers. You also may not transfer, broadcast, stream, redistribute or use your Sound except as incorporated into a music product. Please see our Terms of Use for the full list of restrictions.

Q:Do I lose this license if I cancel my Sounds account?

A:The samples you've downloaded are still covered under the royalty-free license if you decide to cancel or pause your Sounds subscription.

Q: Do I have 100% ownership of my composition if I use Splice samples?

A:You have ownership of your composition made with Splice Sounds, but as a reminder, youdon'town the copyright to samples. Other Splice Sounds users can use the same samples without infringing on your track and vice versa.

Q: Can I register my creative work for a copyright?

A: We encourage you to explore your options to register a copyright in your work. While we do not prohibit you from doing so, copyright law will dictate whether or not you are eligiblefor registration.

A: We do not grant users exclusive licenses, so many users may use the same sample.

Q:What do you mean by not being able to use the likeness of an artist in my work?

A:Based on our terms of service, you cannot use the name or likeness of creators whose samples are distributed on Splice. Some examples of using the name of likeness of a sample creator would be to include a photo of them when promoting your track, crediting them as a feature on your track, and/or including them as a contributor to the track for splitting royalties.

Q:Do I need to give Splice credit when registering with a PRO (publishing rights organization) like ASCAP or BMI?

A:Splice is not a co-owner of your track, so no need to credit Splice when registering with a PRO.

Q:Do I need to give the creator of the sample credit?

    A: No.

Q:Can I use samples from Splice Sounds in a compositionI'mcreating for a movie or video game?

A:You can use Splice samples in a composition. If you wish for your composition to be included in an audio-visual work, you have that option being the full owner of your composition.

Q:If I use an unedited, isolated loop as the beginning of my composition, is that covered by the royalty-free license?

A:Because the sample is included in a larger composition, the sample is covered by the royalty-free license even if the sample is solo'd at some point in the track.

Q:What would be considered a sample in isolation?

A:Using a sample in isolation, in reference to our terms of service, would be taking a sample from Splice Sounds and not using the sample with other audio elements.

  • This issue can arise if a rent-to-own plug-in is trying to launch when the Splice desktop client is closed. You must launch the Splice desktop client and log into your Splice account before attempting to use any of your rent-to-own software. Note that the Splice client presents a small menu bar icon to indicate that its running.

Another likely cause of this issue is the absence of a stable network connection. Check your machines wi-fi/network settings to confirm that youre connected to an active network. The Splice desktop client can only obtain license information from your rent-to-own Parallels via an internet connection without adequate network signal, your rent-to-own plug-ins will not function as fully activated software.

If issues persist, please contact [email protected].
