What do you like best about the leadership team?
Clear vision and strategy by leadership
I believe that Synacor's leadership understands that most people work to live (not live to work). While they do have goals and deadlines that they expect them to be met, they understand that things happen...I have greatly enjoyed, and thrived in, a very friendly and flexible work environment.
There are a few excellent players pulling everyone up. There are little to no negative players.

As an engineer, I'm impressed with how knowledgeable about engineering the senior management is. I feel like a valued team member who delivers business results, not an asset to be expended to make a couple of things. Even the CEO knows what I do and how things work!

What does the leadership team need to get better at?
The leadership team are practically ghosts in the office. You never see them or talk to them beyond your direct manager and maybe his boss.

What is the best part about your compensation package?
Our medical benefits are awesome, and I think i am paid very well too! I was happy to recently get access to a company 401k match, but I will say that I would like to see a larger % match. Overall VERY happy at Synacor!!!
Generous time off policy with out the stigma. Reasonably health/dental benefits.

My favorite part of the compensation at Synacor is their health plan. It's well above those that I'm used to at smaller companies, in terms of both coverage and access.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
Synacor, on average, pays far below the industry standard for the Buffalo area. The pay gap between male and female devs is extreme.

What are some of the best things about your team?
I don't just work with within my team, I occasionally work closely with many other teams as well. And though sometimes boundaries are not the clearest, I have found that everyone is willing to help and get the job done.

Incredible collaboration
What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?
There're good people but also a lot of people who are misogynist, transphobic, or just generally unpleasant for non-white/non-male.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
Synacor does awesomely-fun activities like an annual Hackathon, office-festivities like pi-day, and my favorite bi-weekly "DevTricks" where we get pizza/wings and listen to 3 developers present on their favorite topic! The environment is very collaborative and i've learned a ton from great people!
Open mindedness and knowledge sharing. Those who know are willing to teach, those who do not are willing to learn.

Synacor has a very realistic environment. We have realistic goals and realistic timetables with realistic resources to get things done. We aren't slow but we also don't work 100-hour weeks to get yet another thing done too fast with tool little. Realism also leads to quality.

You get to work on cool things here, but you'll never feel like "If I don't finish this project by X date I think I'm going to get fired...".

There's no team building. Everything is silo'd and cut off. No company culture.

What makes you most happy at work?
My JOB -- I LOVE what I do technically. My COWORKERS -- Their friendliness combined with their willingness to help me do my job better. My MANAGEMENT -- the flexibility my managers provide to me enables me to do great work.
There are always problems to be solved and they are rarely each the same.

I like being at a company where everyone's trying to help everyone else succeed. I've never reached out to someone at another team who hasn't gone out of their way to educate me, give me the information or resources I need, and been happy to talk to me again.
