What's the company culture like at The Conference Board?
Top Employee Response
Lazy, bureaucratic, everyone does just barely enough to get by. HR runs the show. They block managers from developing and promoting their people with no explanation rather than "HR just doesn't like that idea". They don't allow you to fire underperformers because they are terrified of getting sued even when there are blatant performance and insubordination issues. The HR department is also underqualified and gossipy which creates an insecurity that permeates through the culture. It's hard to feel secure in our own brand and our own efforts for a company that has such a strong focus on HR thought leadership when our own HR leader has no business being in that position. If they had a real HR leader that cared about developing their people, investing in their culture, and showed any level of competence I think the culture would improve.
Lazy, Bureaucratic, Everyone does just enough to get by, HR runs the show and holds people back from career growth, denies managers requests to grow and develop their people, doesn't let you fire underperformers for fear of getting sued, HR is also unqualified and gossipy, so that permeates through the culture. For a company that has access to so much thought leadership within the HR space it's baffling that they have such an incompetent leader as their head of hr.
