Timothy Guertin — Vice Chairman at Varian Medical Systems

Mr. Timothy E. Guertin has been Vice Chairman at Varian Medical Systems, Inc. since September 29, 2012 and has been its Director since 2005. Mr. Guertin served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Varian Medical Systems, Inc. from August 2005 to September 2012 and February 2006 to September 2012 respectively. He served as Corporate Executive Vice President at Varian Medical Systems from October 2002 to August 2005. Mr. Guertin joined Varian in 1976 and he has served in several key management positions during his 31-year tenure with the company. He served as Chief Operating Officer at Varian Medical Systems, Inc. from October 2004 to February 2006. He was General Manager and President of Varian's Oncology Systems business, the company's largest business and the world's leading supplier of linear accelerators for radiation therapy for cancer, from 1990 to January 2005. While managing Varian Oncology Systems, Mr. Guertin was named a Corporate Vice President from 1992 to 2002 and Executive Vice President in 1999. Prior to becoming Head of Varian Oncology Systems, he held a variety of positions, including General Manager of customer support between 1982 and 1989. He has Deep knowledge of management structure, strategy and users of technology and extensive knowledge of radiation producing technologies, software controls and safety measures. He has broad experience in product development, regulatory, marketing, financial and operational matters. He serves on the board of trustees and as treasurer of the Radiation Oncology Institute. He serves as Director at Teradyne, Inc. and Acelity L.P., Inc. Mr. Guertin served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AeA (American Electronics Association), a nationwide trade association that represents all segments of the technology industry, and he is a member of that organization's Silicon Valley/Northern California Council. He also serves as Directord of the Diagnostic Imaging Section of NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association), and he served as Chairman of NEMA's Therapy Systems Division. In addition, Mr. Guertin sits on the corporate councils of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO), the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncologists (CARO), professional organizations of radiation oncology clinicians. He has served on the Board of healthcare and technology industry organizations and is a Former Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of TechAmerica (a nationwide technology trade association). He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley.
