View ArticleTo stream beautiful live video in up to 1080p HD through Vimeo, all you need is a camera and a Vimeo Premium account. To learn more about Premium and its associated live streaming capabilities, go here.
Setting up your stream on VimeoThe first step to going live is creating your event on Vimeo. From your browser, go to Vimeo.com and click Upload. On the right side of this page, click the Create live event button, and youll be prompted to enter the name, date, time, and privacy of your event. Please note that scheduling your live event for a given time still requires you to manually begin streaming at that time.
Hitting the Next button will take you to the live settings page, which is the control center for your live stream.
Check out this video for an overview of setting up your stream:
The Live Settings PageThe live settings page is where you can access your stream's Vimeo URL, add a thumbnail, grab the embed code for your stream, enable live viewer chat, and (when you're ready!) go live.
Along the top of the live settings page, youll see a pencil icon next to your stream's title, which allows you to edit it, as well as a countdown of how much time you have remaining in your broadcast (individual Vimeo streams cannot exceed 12 hours). Also on this page, youll find the option to add a thumbnail (on the bottom left of the player window), as well as the Onsite, Embed, and Destinationstabs.
Onsite TabThis tab contains the shareable link for your stream on Vimeo, the toggle switch to enable/disable live chat, a button to change your event's privacy settings, and the description box for you to edit.
Embed TabThis tab contains more advanced customization options for your live video's embedded player. If you're a Premium member, you'll also have the ability to add email capture before or after someone watches your stream. You can also grab the embed codes for both the live video player and the viewer chat module.
Destinations Tab
In this tab, you can access your simulcast settings. This feature allows you to relay your stream to other social platforms, or anywhere with the manual RTMP destination. For more information on simulcasting your stream, please check out our Simulcast Guide.
Polls and Q&A Tabs
If you toggled the live chat switch on in the Onsite tab, you'll be able to see the Polls tab and Q&A tab. From here, you can create a live poll or a Q&A segment. For more information about polls and Q&A's, please see this article.
Going liveWhen you're done adjusting your settings and you are ready to stream, click Next on the top right of the live settings page and allow your browser access to your webcam. You will now see two tabs, Webcam and Connect (RTMP).
WebcamThe Webcam tab shows our Browser-Based Encoder preview. Clicking Webcam Settingsallows you to connect your webcam and microphone as inputs and begin streaming directly from your desktop browser, provided it supports WebRTC protocol (we recommend Chrome 28+, but Firefox 22+ and Safari 11+ both support WebRTC as well). If you have any other connected inputs, such as USB microphones and webcams, these should show up in the dropdown menus as well. Some more advanced inputs may require an external encoder to work on Vimeo.
In addition, when you use a Webcam to go live via the browser, you have the option to share your screen, a specific application, or an open tab in Chrome, which is great for presentations or software demonstrations. This feature only works on Google Chrome.
Connect (RTMP)The Connect tab contains your RTMP URL and Stream Key for your event. Copy and paste the RTMP URL and Stream Key into the destination field of your broadcast encoder and when your event is ready to start, just begin streaming from your encoder.Your stream signal will be broadcast live to your viewers, regardless of the status of your webcam and the browser encoder. We recommend starting a local recording of your stream from within your encoder at this point as well, just in case of any problems with your internet connection.
Livestream StudioThe Connect tab also contains a link to Livestream Studio, so you can learn more about using this broadcast software, which is included with your Vimeo Premium membership. This software has been designed to work perfectly when streaming to Vimeo, and contains many advanced production features not found in any other production software or hardware. For more information on Livestream Studio, please check out the Livestream Help Center.
Stream Preview
If you are streaming via an external encoder, you have the option to toggle on a stream preview which allows you to start streaming from the encoder and see a low-latency preview of your stream in the player alongside its stream health before going live to your audience. This is off by default and would need to be configured for each individual event.
This video provides a walkthrough of the Live settings and the process of going live:
Managing your live stream
After your stream goes live, youll see your event title, a countdown of the maximum remaining time of your event, an indicator light that you are currently live, and a button to end your stream.
The stream preview window shows exactly how your stream appears for viewers, with your live stream stats beneath.
If you've enabled viewer chat, it'll appear on the right side. The chat menu contains options to minimize and disable/enable the chat, as well as pop it out into its own window. You also have the ability to block a user by hovering over their message and selecting the Block icon on the right side. The offending user can still comment, however, their comments will no longer be visible to any other participants so it will appear that they are being ignored by everyone else. You can also unblock the user if you wish.
Youll also be able to monitor your streams quality and stability in real time. Read this article for more information about monitoring stream health.
Note:Commenting on live videos is not available until the stream is archived. To get viewer feedback during your event, make sure chat is enabled or use our Polls and Q&A features.
Live Stats
While your stream is live, youll see some helpful metrics right beneath your stream preview to help you track how many people are viewing your stream, and for how long.
Watching Now: the number of people currently watching your stream
Peak views: the highest number of concurrent viewers on your stream
Total plays: total number of player loads
Average view time: average duration of a viewers page load
Ending your streamTo end a stream, simply click End event on the top right corner of the Live Settings page on Vimeo. Ending your stream will trigger the final stages of the video archiving process.
When your stream ends, your live settings page also changes to the post-live version. The indicator light on the top right changes to Offline and your video preview will now link to your archived video settings page.
If you separately recorded a higher-resolution version of your broadcast (e.g. 2K or 4K), you can replace the Vimeo archive with your higher-resolution version. You can replace the video at any time, so feel free to edit the video file before replacing it on Vimeo.
Once your video has gone through the archival process, it appears in your video manager like any other video.
Here's a video about managing and ending your stream:
Support features
While you're setting up your broadcast, there is a support chat icon in the bottom right corner of the broadcast view. Clicking the chat support icon will prompt you to enter your name, account email address, and a short description of your problem.
If a live video support specialist is available, you can troubleshoot with them directly on your broadcaster view page. If a live video support specialist is not online, your message will be re-routed to our email support team, who will respond via email.
View ArticleYoull know a video is HDR if its marked with an HDR badge in the player or on the video page.
To watch an HDR video, youll need to have a HDR10 supported screen. We do not support hardware that is only compatible with Dolby Vision. You may need to consult the documentation from your manufacturer to confirm the capabilities of your viewing hardware.
Supported Viewing Environments
If viewing from an environment that does not support HDR10, our player will deliver wide color gamut (increased color) playback files. For devices that do not support advanced color technologies in any capacity, well automatically default to standard SDR playback (the norm).
Supported Browsers
Safari 11+ (iOS only)
Supported Devices
Apple TV 4K (connected to a HDR10 supported TV or monitor)
iPhone X
Supported Operating Systems
iOS 11+
tvOS (using the Vimeo App)
As the video market continues to adopt HDR, this list will continue to grow.
Vimeo Mobile App
HDR playback is available in the Vimeo mobile app for iOS, but not for Android. Support for Android devices is coming soon!
Downloading for offline playback
In the download menu, youll have access to your original file, the full set of SDR (H.264) encoded playback files, and the highest resolution HDR playback file.
Our HDR playback files are created using the HEVC (H.265) video codec, so make sure that you are using a supported video player and HDR10 supported viewing hardware. We recommend using the nightly build of VLC ( https://nightlies.videolan.org/ ) or mpv ( https://mpv.io/installation/ ).
Please note that offline playback of HDR files within the Vimeo app (TV and mobile) is not currently supported. In this case, you can download a SDR version to view offline.

Vimeo's loving and knowledgeable Support Team provides fast, friendly help via email around the clock, Monday morning through Friday evening (Eastern time). Premium members also have access to live chat support during US business hours. For Business and Premium members, we also provide limited support during weekends and holidays (see more info below).Vimeo does not offer phone support. (Please don't trust any phone numbers you find on the Internet. These are likely scams.) Why? Phone support requires substantial staffing expenses, and is not very efficient for the type of technical support we offer, which usually involves exchanging web links and often involves processes with built-in wait times (like waiting for a video to upload or convert). Focusing on email support allows us to efficiently serve our members, while keeping costs down, which is one of the reasons why Vimeo Plus, Pro, and Business are so inexpensive compared to other professional hosting platforms.
Here's a short video that will walk you through the steps!

For example, a video on our staff account about the Vimeo player has the custom URL: vimeo.com/staff/player.
Changing the thumbnail of your video
To change your thumbnail, go to the video's individual page and click Settings beneath the video player. By default, you'll be on the General tab of your settings first. Under the Info section, choose "Edit thumbnail" and select an option for picking your perfect image:
Upload:Want to upload your own thumbnail image? Clicking the "Upload" button will allow you to chose a JPG, GIF, or PNG file from your computer. Please note that custom thumbnail files cannot be larger than9600px wide or 5400px tall. Select from video:Begin playing the video in the preview player to the right of your screen to select a specific frame. You can use theShift + arrow keyson your keyboard to scrub through your video frame by frame. Adding credits toyour video
In the Distribution tab, Discovery section of your video settings, scroll down to the "Credits" section. By default, you (the video owner) are listed in the credits. You can add someone to your video's credits by clicking the + button and entering their name, role, and Vimeo profile link or email address. If you follow the person you are crediting on Vimeo, entering their name will auto-populate their Vimeo profile link. Save your changes, and the credit will now appear on your video page. Please note that adding credits is not available if your video is set to "Hide this video from vimeo.com" or "People with the private link." The person who is credited will then be able to add the video in whichthey'recredited to their profile page.
Please also note that youll only be able to add someone to a videos credits if that person is already following you on Vimeo.
You can remove a credit at any time by going back to the Distribution tab, Discovery section in your video settings, clicking the red X next to name of the person you want to remove, and saving your changes.
Replacing your videoIf you would like to upload a new version of your video, but keep the URL, analytics, likes, and comments associated with its video page, use the "Replace video" feature.
On the Collaboration tab, Versions sections of your video settings, click the "Replace video" button to upload a new video file. Using this option will retain the video page's URL, analytics, likes, comment, tags, and all the other information associated with the video.

View ArticleYou can enjoy all 360 video on Vimeo on your desktop, mobile device, and with or without a headset. How do you know its 360? Next to every 360 videos title on vimeo.com, a 360 badge will appear. Get started with a collection of gorgeous 360 videos, handpicked by our curation team: vimeo.com/channels/360
Here's a short overview on watching 360 videos on Vimeo.
Desktopandmobile viewing
On desktop, you can explore a 360 video with your arrow keys, mouse, or trackpad. On the right side of the player, youll see a compass that indicates the direction you are facing in the video. Clicking on the compass will reorient you to the original positioning of the video.
Viveport
On the Vimeo mobile app for iOS or Android, tilt your device to enjoy 360 video. You can also move horizontally through a 360 video by dragging your finger across the screen.
If you try viewing a 360 video on the Vimeo mobile site for iOS or Android, well direct you to the mobile app for the best viewing experience.
Mobile headset viewing
Some 360 videos are best enjoyed in a headset, based on how the creator shot the video and intended it to be viewed. On Android or iOS, you can use the Vimeo app to view 360 video in a mobile headset. To enable headset playback, tap the headset icon within the player on the Vimeo app.
If you are watching on an Android mobile browser or embedded on another website, the headset icon will direct you to our app where you can use a headset to view your 360 video.
If your headset has a QR code, you can scan it by tapping the headset icon, clicking the gear icon in the player, then selecting Switch viewer: default cardboard. After scanning the QR code with your devices camera, the viewing experience will be optimized for your headset.
Watching360 videos offline
If youre underground, in the air, or your wi-fis just a bit spotty, you can download a 360 video to watch offline, and enjoy it at your command.
On the Vimeo mobile app (iOS or Android), visit your settings and enable Allow HD downloads. We also recommend enabling the Download only via WiFi setting, because the 360 videos can be as large as a gigabyte.
As youre browsing the Vimeo mobile app, you can tap the ellipsis next to the video title of a 360 video and select Make Available Offline. If youre already on a video page, tap the down arrow in the player to save the video for offline viewing. Once the download completes, your 360 video can be accessed in the Offline tab of your Library.
On desktop, click the "Download" button that appears below the video player. From there, youll have the option to select a quality to download from the menu. When viewing locally, please make sure to use a player that supports 360 video. We recommend using a program such as VLC media player. If the video owner has disabled downloading, youwon'tsee the Download button on the video page on desktop.
Monoscopic and stereoscopic 360
Vimeo supports both monoscopic and stereoscopic 360 video. Monoscopic is filmed using one camera per field of view from one single point of view, whereas stereoscopic has a separate video mapped to each eye. Both types of 360 video can be enjoyed with or without a headset, but the viewing experience for stereoscopic 360 video is optimized for a headset.
Supported viewing environmentsandheadsets
For Monoscopic playback on desktop, we recommend using the latest version of the following browsers with WebGL and hardware acceleration enabled in the browser settings:
Chrome
Firefox
Opera
Edge
Safari (Note: 360 playback is only supported in version 11.0.2 or higher)
For Monoscopic playback on mobile, we recommend using the latest version of the following:
The Vimeo iOS app (version 6.2+) on iOS (version 8.0+)
The Vimeo Android app (version 2.4+) on Android (version 4.3+)
Embedded videos on mobile browsers for Android (version 4.3+)
For Stereoscopic playback in a mobile headset, youll need to insert a mobile device into aheadset with:
The Vimeo iOS app (version 6.2+) on iOS (version 8.0+)
The Vimeo Android app (version 2.4+) on Android (version 4.3+)
Please note: All mobile devices will require a built in gyroscope sensor for 360 video playback. If a 360 video is played from a device without this sensor, the video will not be rendered for 360 and will play as flat. If you are having trouble viewing in 360 from your mobile device, please consult your device documentation to make sure the gyroscope sensor is included.
360 video playback is not currently supported in any mobile browsers for iOS and the Vimeo TV apps.
360 vs. VR
Vimeo supports 360 video (monoscopic and stereoscopic), not true VR. While the terms are often used interchangeably, 360 video and VR are considered two different experiences.
360 video is recorded from all angles using a special rig of multiple cameras or one omnidirectional camera. Users can dictate the direction or view of the video based on a central point in space, dictated by the camera. These videos can be viewed in a headset or on a screen.
VR (virtual reality) refers to a simulated digital environment in which a user can physically move around and interact using equipment such as a headset and body gear. Users can navigate, control, and influence the environment beyond the direction they are looking.
Vive Video and Vimeo
Vive supports curated Vimeo content on their Vive Video app, which means that staff-picked Vimeo videos are available to watch on Vive and Oculus headsets. You can download the app on Steam as well as on and use it to discover staff picked videos.
Please note that the app contains pre-curated videos (i.e. it's not possible to download the Vimeo app and use it to watch your own videos on those headsets).

After your account lapses, you will have a weekly upload limit of 500MB, and a total storage cap of 5GB. If your total video storage exceeds 5GB you will lose the ability to upload new content. View ArticleCan I cancel anytime?
You can try a plan risk-free for 30 days. If you're not satisfied with your membership, you'll be able to get a refund within the 30-day period.
Do I keep my Vimeo PRO or Vimeo Business features when I switch to Premium?
Yes! You keep all of your features and videos, and your account will be upgraded to include the additional features and storage that come with your Premium membership.
What else do I need to go live?
Besides your membership, event producers just need to connect to a camera and an RTMP-enabled encoder, which will send your live recording to Vimeo. Connecting to an encoder is easy we provide simple instructions and a professional support team if you need help. You can use any encoder you want, but we recommend Livestream Studio, Mevo, OBS, or Telestream Wirecast.
Are there really no streaming limits?
Vimeo Premium members get unlimited streaming in the Vimeo player to any number of viewers, across as many events as they'd like (up to 3 simultaneously), with each event limited to 12 hours. There are no overages and no hidden fees.
Are there overages or fees based on the number of viewers?
Nope. You can stream to as many viewers as you want without worrying about overages.
Will my audience see my events in 1080p?
Your audience will be able to see your events in 1080p, as long as your source stream is outputting at 1080p and your audience has a strong network connection. If not, theyll be served a stream at the quality appropriate to their device and bandwidth.
What is cloud transcoding?
Cloud transcoding means that all live streams are transcoded by Vimeo for optimal playback in the Vimeo player. This provides viewers with the most beautiful experience possible for their device and bandwidth, keeps your required outbound bandwidth to a minimum, and saves you the trouble of using expensive encoding equipment.
What network ports are needed to stream?
All encoders use various internet ports to communicate with Vimeo Live, all of which need to be made open to both incoming and outgoing communication. These ports are:
TCP 1935
TCP 80
TCP 443
UDP 53
UDP 2088
Ports 1935, 80, 2088, and 443 represent RTMP, HTTP, and HTTPS respectively. Many corporate and academic networks security policies will block UDP 53, as it provides DNS. UDP 2088 should be open when broadcasting from Mevo (iOS and Android). If any of these are blocked, you may want to get in touch with your network administrator or IT prior to proceeding further with setup.
What is the minimum bitrate for streaming?
5000kbps is the ideal bitrate for a stream with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a frame rate of 60. If you are streaming with a bitrate significantly less than 5000, your stream may appear pixelated and experience lag.

View ArticleStarting in October 2018, Vimeo has seen a significant and sustained increase in DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown notices filed by or on behalf of music companies. This escalation has impacted some of our creators, who may have seen videos uploaded years ago removed. In some cases, creators have seen their Vimeo accounts being disabled entirely.
We know the DMCA takedown experience is unpleasant for our creators. To provide as much transparency as possible to our community, this article provides additional context for the escalation in DMCA takedown notices, a list of recommended steps to protect your Vimeo account that everyone in our community should follow, a detailed communication timeline if your account is subjected to the DMCA notices, and some DMCA-related FAQs.
DMCA Background
The DMCA, enacted in 1998, provides a framework for removing content online that infringes copyrights. A website like Vimeoisn'tliable for the copyright infringement of others as long as it does certain things. In particular, we must promptly remove videos when properly notified by copyright holders and terminate the accounts of repeat infringers. Our policy for handling DMCA claims has been in place since the start of the company.
The DMCA doesnt just protect big companies, it also protects creators whodon'thave the resources to file copyright lawsuits. To have content removed from a platform like Vimeo, a creator need only send a takedown notice. On the other hand, we wouldnt be able to provide an open platform for creators if we were liable for every one of the millions of videos our users uploaded.
Some creators have asked us why wecan'twork out deals with music companies, as YouTube has, on behalf of creators. Although wed love to make things even easier for our creators, our business model makes it difficult to work out an arrangement with rights holders. Vimeo is an ad-free platform. We do not monetize plays of videos, so unlike YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, we have no revenue stream tied to video views to offer the music rights holders when a video contains their music.
Vimeo's Repeat Infringer Policy
To stay within the DMCA framework, Vimeo is required to terminate accounts of repeat infringers. Since the founding of our company, we have used a three strikes policy: If an account receives three separate DMCA strikes, we will remove the account. A strike accrues when an account receives a DMCA takedown notice that results in a video being removed from that account. We may group notices filed within a short period of time as a single strike. We will remove strikes if the claimant withdraws the notice or when the account holder successfully challenges a notice.
Challenging DMCA Notices
The DMCA provides a detailed process for challenging notices. The impacted user must file a counter-notification, which is essentially a legal claim stating that they had the legal right to upload the materials at issue. When you file such a notice, Vimeo will forward that notice to the copyright holder. If that party elects not to file a lawsuit against you within 10 business days, then Vimeo will restore your video.
We provide a form to submit counter-notifications here. It takes only a few minutes to file a counter-notice. This is a legal document, so make sure that you are certain that you want to file one.
Steps to Protect Your Account
To avoid having videos, and potentially your account, removed, we recommend that you:
Ensure you have all the necessary rights and permissions before you upload a video to Vimeo. If your videos contain any third party content, like a third partys music, determine whether you have the right to use it. If you have any doubts, don'tupload it.
Review and delete all videos in your account that contains unauthorized copyrighted material. Making those videos private is not enough.
Ensure the primary email address on your Vimeo account is one that you check regularly as we send all legal notices to it.
If you have received a DMCA takedown notice with respect to content that you had the right to use (such as licensed music or music used under fair use), we strongly encourage you to challenge that notice through the DMCAs counter-notification process. This takes only a few minutes and, if youre successful, well restore the video.
Communications from Vimeo
We will never delete videos or disable your account without providing a detailed email notice. In addition, we often take steps to notify you onsite. Heres what we do when your account receives a DMCA takedown notice:
Your first DMCA strike
We remove the video.
We add a DMCA strike to your account.
We send an email to you (at the primary email address), which explains what happened and what you can do.
Your second DMCA strike
We follow the same steps as above.
In addition, we display an onsite notification about the takedown. You won't be able to resume uploading new videos until you acknowledge this notification.
Your third DMCA strike.
When this happens, we remove the video and your account under our Repeat Infringer Policy.
If you elect not to challenge any of the DMCA notices, you may contact us to grant you temporary access to your account so that you can download your non-infringing videos.
You may not create a new account with Vimeo.
View ArticleIn United States copyright law, fair use allows creators to incorporate copyrighted materials into their own workwithout obtaining the permission of the copyright ownerwhen certain conditions are met. Fair use recognizes that while the primary purpose of copyright laws is to encourage artistic and cultural innovation, rigid application of copyrights would actually stifle that creativity. Society benefits when creators have the freedom to critique and comment on the works of their peers, or to remix and reuse artistic material in new and inventive ways. Read all the FAQ entries on the topic of fair use to learn more about how fair use is determined, and how it may apply to the work you upload to Vimeo.
View Article*Note: The transparency discussed here is referring specifically to the iframe (the containing web element),not transparency in any videos you upload. Vimeo does not include alpha channel support at this time.
Transparent Background
By default, the background of the player iframe is transparent on Vimeo. All player elements (playbar, buttons, etc) are pinned to the video image, not the actual size of the iframe.
To avoid blank space in an embed, we recommend choosing a player size that matches your video's native aspect ratio. For example, if the original video has an aspect ratio of 16:9, youll want to embed the video with dimensions that yield an aspect ratio of 16:9, such as 800 x 450.
Important:the dimensions of the embedded player can also be influenced by the CSS styling established by your webpage. For videos embedded in a responsive design, make sure the height and width are both adjusted to maintain your video's native aspect ratio.
Turning off the transparent background
If your player displays differently than what you originally intended, you can disable the transparent background. To turn off the transparent background, add?transparent=0to the end of the player URL in your embed code. This parameter will force a black iframe background and pin the player elements to the iframe, instead of the video image.
Example embed code:
<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/137805268?transparent=0" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>'
Applying a custom iframe background color
Instead of transparency or black bars, you can choose the exact color that fills your iframe. Keep in mind that you'll need to visit your embed settings to adjust the color of thetext and play bar within the player.
To apply a specific background color, youll need to add the following inline style property to your iframe embed code:
style="background-color: #FFFFFF"
FFFFFF is the color hex value for white, but you can search the Hex code database for your desired color here- http://www.color-hex.com/
Example embed code:
<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/236787722" style="background-color: #FFFFFF" width="1000" height="400" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
Important: There is no way to change the color of the frame that appears while your video loads. This should not be noticable to most viewers, but could affect viewers with slower Internet connections.
View ArticleVimeo On Demand makes it easy to sell your videos online. Follow the steps below and your titles will be available for sale and rental in no time.
Step 1: Upgrade to Vimeo PRO, Business, or Premium
To access Vimeo On Demand and start selling your videos directly to your audience, you need to upgrade to Vimeo PRO, or higher, account level.
Step 2: Create your Vimeo On Demand title
Onceyou'veupgraded, you can create a new Vimeo On Demand title here: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/create. Youll want to decide if youre selling a single film or series of videos.
Step 3: Customize your title
Then tell us about your work! Add a title, description, and more to give future viewers an idea of what youre selling.
After that, get into the nitty gritty: decide if you want to offer your work for Rent, to Buy, or both. Upload your trailer and featured video(s) directly to the VOD page, or add them from your account ifthey'realready there. Then upload a poster and customize the On Demand page to perfectly match your work.
Set your prices, choose any additional settings (such as rental period or available regions), or add some bonus features, and youre ready to publish!
Bonus content is free by default, but you can choose to put it behind the paywall on a video-by-video basis. For example, you couldoffer some free bonus videos and others that can only be watched after your buyer purchases the title itself.
Step 4: Spread the word
Spread the word to your fans via social media channels, email, flyers stapled to telephone poles, skywriting, and whatever other methods you devise. We provide the technology, but the marketing is up to you!
Step 5: Get paid
We'll notify you every time you make a sale, and you'll get 90% of your sales after transaction fees in a PayPal payment once a month.
For example, a $10 VOD purchase from a buyer based in New York would get you about $7.80. (Taking out transaction fee of $0.48, applicable tax of $0.85 and the revenue sharing of $0.87).

Available for hire status
Location
Featured Video (on by default)
Roles
Project types (whatyou'veworked on)
Description of yourself (freelance profession, brand/studio, brand/business)
Cover video
Make your Vimeo profile your own and show your viewers a glimpse of your work by adding a custom cover video. You can choose an entire video, or just a clip, to play silently on loop at the top of your profile. To get started, click on the blue Edit button on the top right side of your profile page and select Cover video. In the module that pops up, select one of your videos public or private and hit Next. On the following screen, you have the option to trim your video so only a portion of it plays back on loop at the top of your profile. If you want the whole video to play, just click Next again without doing anything. Clicking Next takes you to a screen where you can click and drag to reposition the video. This crop of your video has a max aspect ratio of 1:3.33 for example, 1920x540 but will change based on the width of the browser viewing your profile. When youre happy with how things look, hit Save.Cover videos are supported on most desktop browsers, but aren't supported on mobile browsers.
Profile videos/pinned videos
In addition to selecting a cover video, you can also choose the order in which your videos appear on your profile page by pinning them. To get started, click on the blue Edit button on your profile page, and then choose Profile videos. This will bring you to a page where youll be able to pin videos and rearrange them by dragging and dropping them to change their order. (Only your public videos can be pinned to appear on your profile.)
Pin a video in place by clicking on the pin icon in the corner of each video. If you no longer want to feature a video, you can always click the icon again to unpin the video. Once youre done pinning and ordering your videos, unpinned videos will appear after pinned videos, newest first.
Someone viewing your profile page sees your pinned videos first. If they want to load more videos, they can do so by clicking Load more at the bottom of the page. The Load more button will load ten videos at a time as long as you have more videos to show.
If you choose not to pin any videos to your page, your videos will display in chronological order, newest first.
You can also pin videos thatyou'veappeared in as long as someone has credited you. Videos thatyou'veappeared and been credited in will appear in the Profile videos menu with a message that says This video is hidden because someone credited you in it. Pinning this video will make it appear on your profile. Pinning these videos is the only way to make them show up on your profile page.
Featured video
A featured video is a central video that can play directly on your profile. Featured videos are a great way to highlight your work and professional experience.
Note that the featured video will sit above any videos you have previously pinned to your profile. To re-order your profile videos (including the featured video), from the profile page click on Edit > Profile videos to drag and drop.
To edit your featured video, you can also visit your profile settings page and then click on the Work section ( vimeo.com/settings/profile/work ). From here, you can add, change, or remove a featured video from your profile page.
Featured videos are enabled for all Vimeo profiles by default. To remove a featured video, be sure to uncheck Show on profile beneath the featured video section of your profile settings.
Profile videos on the mobile site and in mobile apps
Plus, PRO,Business, and Premium members can pin unlimited videos, and members with Basic accounts can pin up to ten videos. Only public videos may be pinned to show up on your profile.
If you're looking at your profile videos on the mobile site, you'll notice that they appear in reverse-chronological order according to upload date. If you're logged in to your own account, you'll also see your own private videos in reverse-chronological order. You won't see your pinned profile videos on the mobile site reverse-chronological order will take precedence.
In the Android and iOS apps, you'll see profile videos in the creator's specified order.
Hiding your profile from Vimeo
If you'd prefer to hide your profile from Vimeo, you'll need to enable Private Mode on your account. Basic and Vimeo Plus members will need to to Vimeo PRO, Business, or Premium to unlock Private Mode.

View ArticleDetermining your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) depends on where you are located as an individual or entity.
For U.S.-based individuals: Your TIN is the same as your social security number.
For U.S.-based entities (corporations, partnerships, LLCs, etc.): In general, your TIN is usually the entitys Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN). In some cases (e.g., LLC, S-corp corporations, partnerships), however, the TIN may be that of the owner. Consult with a tax professional to determine what your TIN is.
For creators based outside the U.S.: If you are a U.S. citizen living abroad, you must provide a TIN. If you are a non-U.S. citizen residing outside of the U.S., you may either provide a W-9 (if you have a TIN) or provide a W-8 (if you do not have a TIN).

Customization options
There are two ways to edit the embed settings for your videos. You can either edit the embedded setting for an individual video on the Embed tab of its video settings, or you can create Embed presets in your Account settings and then apply those to multiple videos.
Any time you change the custom embed options for a particular video, that video will automatically update on sites where it has already been embedded. Remember, these changes will only be reflected when your video is embedded on another web page, not on vimeo.com.
Player PreferencesWhat do you want to show to your viewers before your video starts playing? You have the choice to show or hide your portrait, title, and/or byline when the embedded video first loads.
Note that there is currently no way to include the video download button on the embedded player; this is only accessible from the video page on Vimeo.com. Colors and buttonsEnter a hex color code to choose the exact color you want for the text and play bar. Select or deselect the check boxes to choose which of the following elements you want to appear in the embedded player: "Like" button, "Watch Later" button, "Share" button, "Embed" button, "Fullscreen" button, play bar, volume control, Vimeo logo. End screensEnd screens (formerly known as outros) help you connect with your viewers after your video finishes playing by letting them know where to go next. You can add these via the Interaction tools tab, After video section. Learn more about how end screens can drive engagement and conversions.
Player LogoVimeo Premium, Business and PRO members have the option to add their company logo to the embedded player (Plus members may not use Vimeo for commercial purposes). To upload a logo, go to the Videos tab in your Account Settings, select the Player Logo tab, and then click the Upload new image link. We recommend using transparent 200200 PNG files for best results.
After the logo finishes uploading, go to the Embed tab of the video settings of the video you'd like to add the new logo to. Then, under the Customization section, toggle the "Display custom logo" option on, and click on the logo you want to use. Make sure it becomes highlighted with a blue box, then click "Save."
Domain-level privacy
With domain-level privacy, you can specify the websites that are permitted to embed your video. Any sites that are not on your list will receive an error message when they attempt to embed it. Take that, unauthorized sites!
To set up domain-level privacy, head to your video page and click "Settings" below the video player. From there, click over to the General tab, Privacy section. In the Where can this be embedded? dropdown menu, select Specific domains, then add the domain names for the sites where you'd like your video to be embedded.
Embed Presets
To easily apply the same custom embed settings to multiple videos, you can create an embed preset under the Videos tab in your Account settings. Click "+Add new preset," name it, make your customization choices, and hit the Save button (you have the option to apply your new preset to all your videos by checking the box next to "Also apply to all existing videos").
You can apply your new preset to an individual video by heading to its video page and clicking the "Settings" button below the player. On the "Embed" tab, select the desired preset from the dropdown below the preview of your embedded player, then hit the "Save" button.
Small embeddedplayers
If your embedded video is less than 375px wide, some of the embed elements will be hidden.
Mini Mode is activated if the player is smaller than 375px wide. In Mini Mode, the portrait, volume slider, and Vimeo logo are hidden.
Tiny Mode is activated if the player is smaller than 300px wide or 169px tall. In Tiny Mode, the portrait, title, control bar, Vimeo logo, Like / Watch Later / Share buttons, and end screens are hidden.
If using a Custom Logo (PRO and above only): If youre using a custom logo in the player, the criteria for Mini Mode and Tiny Mode are a bit different. Mini mode is activated when the player is smaller than 450px wide. Tiny mode is activated if the player is smaller than 338px or 190px tall.
Important: If your webpage is using a responsive design, the embedded player may automatically adhere to a smaller size on mobile. Some end screens will not appear if the player is smaller than 300px wide or 169px tall.
Third-party playersVimeos embed and privacy settings only apply to the embedded Vimeo player. If youre a Vimeo Business or PRO member using third-party player links, Vimeos embed customizations will not apply. However, the third-party player might support its own set of customizations check out their support documentation for more info.
View ArticleWith simulcast, you can send your live video on Vimeo to stream simultaneously on Facebook Live, YouTube, LinkedIn, and any custom RTMP destination like Twitch or Periscope. You can simulcast your stream to up to five destinations at once.
Note:If you go live to more than one event on Vimeo simultaneously, you cannot simulcast both events to the same destination (e.g. two streams to the same YouTube channel) at the same time. Only the first one will be accepted.
On the left side of your live event settings page, navigate to the Destinationstab to see the simulcast destination options.
Note: Simulcast settings are account-level rather than event-level. In other words, when you configure simulcast settings for an event on Vimeo, those settings will apply to all of your events automatically.
FacebookVimeo has a native integration with Facebook. To connect your Facebook account to Vimeo, create your live event, then go to the Destinationstab. Click Connect next to Facebook and you will be brought to Facebooks site to authenticate the Vimeo app.
If youd like, you can click the "Review the info you provide" link to see what information youll be passing along to Vimeo, and then hit Continue. If your Facebook account does not automatically appear, make sure to log in to the Facebook account in the same web browser, then go back to your live event settings and click Connect again.
Next, youll need to choose the default privacy for the live events Vimeo posts to Facebook (Public, Friends, or Just Me). These privacy settings only affect your stream when it is sent to Facebook, and do not change the settings on Vimeo.
Clicking OK in the modal will take you back to the Destinations tab in your live event settings page on Vimeo. At this point, you can click the Add button to make Facebook a destination for your stream when it goes live.
In the modal that pops up, select the Facebook account you wish to simulcast to and you can adjust Facebooks privacy setting, and then click Save.
https://stream.twitch.tv/ingests/
Now you are all set to simulcast your stream to Facebook. You can simulcast to your Facebook Profile or any page of which you are an Admin.
When youre ready, follow the regular workflow to go live on Vimeo; it will automatically simulcast to Facebook. Remember that your encoder settings should include the RTMP URL and Stream Key from Vimeo, not Facebook.
YouTubeTo connect your YouTube account to Vimeo, create your live event, then go to the Destinationstab. Click Connect next to YouTube and you will be brought to the connected apps page in your Vimeo Account Settings to authenticate the YouTube app in a modal. Log in to your YouTube account and select the profile youd like to stream to.
Next, go to YouTube and make sure your account is Verified. Navigate to the YouTube Studio, which can be found in the dropdown menu in the top right corner of the site, where youll be able to adjust your live events settings once it reaches YouTube (e.g. privacy, event title).
Back in your Live Event Settings on Vimeo, make sure the slider switch next to YouTube is selected. When youre ready, follow the regular workflow to go live on Vimeo your stream will automatically simulcast to YouTube.
To connect your LinkedIn account to Vimeo, create your live event, then go to the Destinations tab. Click Connect (or Reconnect) next to LinkedIn and you will be brought to the connected apps page in your Vimeo Account Settings to authenticate the LinkedIn app in a modal. Log in to your LinkedIn account and select the profile youd like to stream to. You can also choose to stream to a company page if you have Administrator privileges for that page on LinkedIn.
Note that you need to submit an application and be approved by LinkedIn in order to stream to your LinkedIn profile or company page.
Once LinkedIn is connected, select the desired destination (i.e. your profile page or a company page) and make sure the switch next to LinkedIn is toggled on. When youre ready, follow the regular workflow to go live on Vimeo your stream will automatically simulcast to LinkedIn. You may notice a slight delay in the stream being available on LinkedIn since it takes 20-30 seconds for the stream to get to LinkedIn before the post is created.
Note you can only stream to a LinkedIn profile page or a company page; its not possible to stream to multiple LinkedIn destinations at once.
TwitchTo simulcast to Twitch, click Add next to RTMP Destination. This will bring up a modal where youll be able to input the name of the destination, the RTMP URL to send the stream to, and a Stream Key to authenticate this stream.
Follow these steps on Twitch:
On Twitch and in the dropdown menu on the upper right, go to Dashboard. From there, go to Channel on the lower right of the page, below settings, where youll be able to access your Stream Key.
Next, decide which Ingest server is best suited for your broadcast location. Twitch offers multiple Ingest servers, which will determine which RTMP address you will be streaming to. To find out the best Ingest for your broadcast, please visit and choose the closest RTMP Ingest server to your location.
Once you have both your RTMP URL and Stream Key, return to your live event settings page on Vimeo and paste them in the modal. You will need to paste the Stream Key in twice first over the {stream key} portion of the RTMP URL, then in the Stream Key field itself.
Remember that your encoder settings should include the RTMP URL and Stream Key from Vimeo, not Twitch. When youre ready, follow the regular workflow to go live on Vimeo; it will automatically simulcast to Twitch.
PeriscopeTo simulcast to Periscope, click Add next to RTMP Destination. This will bring up a modal where youll be able to input the name of the destination, the RTMP URL to send the stream to, and a Stream Key to authenticate this stream.
With Periscope, there are also very specific encoder settings which must be used for your stream to function properly in the Periscope app. Please make sure your encoder settings are:
Bitrate: 800 Kbps
Output Resolution: 1280 x 720 (higher resolution) or 960 x 540 (for best low latency)
Encoder Output: x264
Audio Sample Rate: 44.1khz
Keyframe Interval: 2 seconds (or every 60 frames)
Audio Bitrate: 64 Kbps
Frame Rate: 30 fps
Please note: With these encoder settings, your stream on Vimeo and all other Simulcast destinations will display in the same quality. There is currently no way to lower settings exclusively to Periscope.
Follow these steps in the Periscope app:
Open the Periscope app, go to your Profile, then Settings, and then under Advanced Sources click on Periscope Producer.
This will reveal your RTMP URL and Stream Key. Copy and paste these keys somewhere that will be accessible from your computer.
Return to your live event settings page on Vimeo, name this custom RTMP Destination Periscope then copy and paste the RTMP URL and Stream Key into their corresponding fields.
Remember that your encoder settings should include the RTMP URL and Stream Key from Vimeo, not Periscope. When youre ready, follow the regular workflow to go live on Vimeo; it will automatically simulcast to Periscope.

Please note that only VIP promo codes are applicable for gifting more than one month of free/discounted viewing with Subscription-VODs. Standard promo codes for those VODs are only applicable towards one month of free/discounted viewing. After that, buyers will be charged the normal monthly subscription price.

View ArticleBy default, all Vimeo videos will play inline on mobile browsers. Instead of entering fullscreen mode within the native device player, your video will play directly in the webpage where its embedded. Viewers can enter still fullscreen mode by clicking the fullscreen button in the player.
Inline playback allows for an uninterrupted browsing experience for your viewers, provides a more unified viewing experience across devices, and offers support for more embedded player customizations on mobile. These customization options include custom video controls, quality/speed selections during playback, custom logos, and a more seamless experience for email capture and end screens.
If you prefer for your videos to play in fullscreen on mobile, you can add the ?playsinline=0 parameter to the end of the player URL in your embed code. This will force your video to load in fullscreen mode once the viewer clicks on play.
Example embed code:
<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/137805268?playsinline=0" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
View ArticleNot necessarily. Trademark infringement only occurs when there is a likelihood of confusion. Merely referring to a trademarkisn'tinfringement. Indeed, you might need to refer to a trademark when describing a good or service. The doctrine of nominative fair use permits this kind of use, so long as the trademarkisn'tused more than is necessary. That said, it is a good practice to obtain permission to use third-party trademarks, especially if youre producing a film for commercial distribution.
View ArticleIn addition to adjusting your videos embed settings on site, you can add functionality to the Vimeo player by adding various URL parameters to the end of the player URL in your embed code.
URL parameters begin with a question mark (?), For example:
<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/76979871?embedparameter=value" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
URL parameters only apply to the specific embed code where the parameter is added.

By default, the Vimeo player is set to "Auto" mode, which means it chooses the highest video quality possible, depending on the viewer's bandwidth and other factors in the playback environment.
The quality parameter allows you to specify the default playback quality for your embedded video. If you select a quality that doesnt exist for your particular video, the quality parameter will be ignored, and the embed will default to Auto.
Warnings:
- This parameter is not supported on mobile devices or tablets.
- Please use caution when implementing this parameter. Defaulting to a higher quality (like 4K) may result in excessive buffering and choppy playback for your viewers.

Using multiple embed parameters
If you are adding multiple parameters to the same embed code, youll need to separate them with ampersands (&). For example:
<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/76979871?autoplay=1&loop=1&muted=1" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0"webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
Applying embed parameters to Vimeo.com URL
If you are using an application that requires you to insert a Vimeo.com URL (e.g https://vimeo.com/76979871 )instead of our embed code, you will be unable to use player parametersto customize the embedded player.
For example, this method isnotsupported:
https://vimeo.com/76979871?quality=720p
This is supported:
<iframe src=" https://player.vimeo.com/video/76979871?quality=720p " width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
Some examples of applications thatonly support Vimeo URLs are social media posts, Wordpress themes and plugins, Wix plugins, Squarespace plugins, and other miscellaneous video embed tools within webpage builders. The good news is, some tools mayallow you to adjust player preferences (likeautoplay, for instance) directly intheir own UI.
View ArticleCategorizing and tagging your videos makes it easier for other Vimeo users to find them in searches and on tag or category pages.
CategoriesVimeo Categories are a great way todiscover top-notch videos, creators, and collections related to your interests. Every video in these categories is hand-selected by our 100-percent-human Curation Team take a look.
Categorizing your videos
Vimeo members who upload videos can select up to two categories and one sub-category that best describe their videos. This helps our system identify which videos might be a good fit for particular category pages.
Vimeo curators regularly refresh the content displayed and featured within the category, pulling from the large pool of videos that have been categorized by their creators.
Many more videos are uploaded and categorized than we can display on category pages, so please be aware that categorized videoswon'tshow up immediately and many will not ever appear on category pages. However, categorizing your videos still helps your videos become more discoverable to people who are searching for videos.
To add your video to a category, head to the Distribution tab, Discovery section in your video settings and click the + button. In the module, select up to two categories and a sub-category for each, hit the "Add" button, and then save your changes.
Categorizing your groups and channels
As with individual videos, you can add groups or channels you created or moderate into up to two categories.
Vimeo curators occasionally update the collections featured under Categories. To increase your collections chance of showing up there, be sure to give your group or channel an appealing title and appearance and update it regularly with awesome content.
To categorize your group or channel, head to the "Basic" tab in your collection's settings, check the box next to up to two categories, and save your changes.
Following categories
To follow a category, visit the category's page (e.g. https://vimeo.com/categories/animation) and click +Follow. If you follow a category, videos featured in that category will appear in your feed.
Tags
Tags are keywords or terms that describe your video. For example, if you tag your Hawaii vacation video with the words Hawaii and vacation, you'll be able to easily find other related videos and help other Vimeo users find your videos.
Tagging your videos
You can use up to 20 tags for each video. We encourage you to add only relevant tags as too many tags can make your video harder to find.
To add tags to your video, head to the Distribution tab, Discovery section of your video settings. Under the Tags heading, click the + button and in the text box that appears type in each tag individually and click the blue + button after each oneWhen you're done adding your tags, make sure to save your changes.
If you just recently uploaded a new video, or recently made it public, it may take a little while to show up in our search results. If your videos do not appear in search results after a day, try adding more relevant terms to the description or title of your video.

View ArticleThere are many factors that can cause an error to appear in the Vimeo player. The following is a list of common player error messages that can appear in desktop and mobile browsers.
Sorry, Because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here
If youre seeing this error in the player, the video you are watching has domain-level privacy enabled. The videos owner can adjust the domains where a video can appear within Where can this video be embedded? section of the embed settings page.
If the domain is listed in your video settings page, but the error is still appearing, the domain specified in your address bar may be different from the domain sent to the Vimeo player. In these cases, the privacy error may appear. Contact a web developer to confirm if there is anything in your site's HTML code that could be blocking the referrer from reaching our player iframe.
Unsupported viewing environment: Your system is having trouble playing this video
If youre seeing this error for all videos, your system or browser may not support playback in the Vimeo player. To start, double check the following:
The latest version of your browser is installed

View ArticlePlus, Pro, Business, and Premium members have the option to enable their videos for download. If you have a Basic membership and upgrade your account, the option for enabling downloads will be automatically turned on.
Here's a short video about how downloading works on Vimeo:
Downloading videos
To download a video, click the "Download" button that appears below the video player (not all videos have this more about that below). Onceyou'veclicked it, a little menu will appear, and depending on what the video's creator has designated, youll see links for several different versions of the video, including a mobile, SD, and/or HD file. Youll need to decide which version of the video youd like to download, and click to make the magic happen.
The availability of videos for download depends on the subscription tier of the videos creator. Basic members cannot enable their videos to be downloaded; however, if the video belongs to a Plus, Pro, or Business member, they have the option to toggle on the download option.
Depending on your browser, clicking the link may result in the video playing in a new tab instead of downloading the file to your computer. Dont panic! If this occurs:
For Windows users: Right-click on the link and choose Save as or Save target as.
For Mac users: Hold down the Control key on your keyboard and click the link, then choose Save link as or Download linked file."
Disabling the ability to download your videos
If youd rather not have your videos be available for download, you can disable the option. Under Privacy Settings, we let our members specify whether they want to allow downloading. If a member has disabled downloading, youwon'tsee the "Download" button on the video page.
You can disable downloads of your video on the General tab, Privacy section of your video settings by toggling off "People can download this video".
To disable downloads of all your videos, go to the Upload defaults tab of your account settings, uncheck the box next to "Download them" (under the "What can people do with your videos?" heading), check the box next to "Also apply to existing videos," and then hit the "Save" button.
For added protection against downloading, we also recommend enabling one of our privacy settings, such as protecting the video with a password, or restricting embedding to specific sites (a feature available exclusively Vimeo Plus, Pro, and Business members). You can read more about our various privacy settings here.
Note that there is currently no way to make videos available to download from the embedded player.
Storing and downloading your source files
Plus, Pro, Business, and Premium members have the ability to store their original, unencoded source files right here on Vimeo. This means that if you are a Plus, Pro, Business, or Premium member and you have enabled source file storage account settings, you will always be able download your original file, as long as you maintain your paid subscription with us. You can choose to make your original file downloadable by others too. Learn more about enabling source file storage for your account here.
While Basic members can indeed download the source files made available by Plus, Pro, Business, and Premium members, they do not have the ability to permanently store or share their own source files on Vimeo.

View ArticleVimeo Pro, Business, and Premium members have the ability to access video review pages, making it easy to gather feedback and securely share rough cuts. These pages are semi-private, unlisted, and mobile-compatible, so you can easily share them with reviewers even if theydon'thave Vimeo accounts. Your reviewers can also add time-coded notes, right in the video, to streamline your video review process.
If you are a Basic or Plus member, you can see a demo version of the video review page but you'll need to upgrade to Pro, Business, or Premium to access the full functionality of review pages for your videos.
This video gives a brief overview of review pages:
Review pages
You can access your video review page link through the video manager, in your video settings under the Collaboration tab, Review tools section, or via the Review page button beneath the player on your video page. This button is only visible to you, the video owner. To share your review page, youll need to copy the private link and send it to your reviewers directly.
Review pages can be shared in two different settings: review and presentation. The review setting allows for collaboration anyone thatyou'veshared the page with can leave and respond to time-coded notes. The presentation mode allows you to share a view-only version of your video with no comments or distractions.
To switch the settings of your review page, select the dropdown in the upper righthand corner of your review page (note: you must be logged into your Vimeo account). From here, you'll be able to choose between review or presentation mode. Please note that only one mode can be activated at any given time.
Sharing a group of review pages
Your videos' review pages are enabled by default. To disable a review page, click the Settings button beneath the player on your video page, navigate to the Collaboration tab, Review tools section, toggle the box next to Enable private review page, off and hit "Save."
Time-coded notes
In review mode, time-coded notes help you seamlessly gather feedback on your video review page from reviewers.
Enabling time-coded notes
If you want reviewers to be able to leave time-coded notes on your review page, make sure you have "Review" enabled in your sharing settings. Near the top right corner of your review page, activate "Review" in the dropdown. You will then receive an email notification whenever a note is left on one of your review pages.
Leaving a time-coded note
Anyone with access to your review page can click anywhere on the video to leave a time-coded note. Each note is associated with a blue dot in the frame of the video and a white marker in the play bar.
If the reviewer is logged in to Vimeo, their name and profile picture will be associated with their notes. If the person leaving feedback doesnt have a Vimeo account, all they have to do is provide a name when they leave a note on your review page.
Finding your feedback
All notes appear in a feed on the right side of the page, organized by time-code. Clicking on a note in the feed takes you to that exact spot in the video. When you click on a white marker in the play bar, the associated note will become highlighted, and youll be taken to that specific place in the video as well.
Replying to, editing, and deleting notes
You and other reviewers can respond to feedback by hitting Reply on a time-coded note. Only reviewers which are logged into a Vimeo account can edit or delete their own notes. As the video owner, you can delete or reply to a note on your review page and download a CSV that contains all notes and replies.
Resolving notes
Time-coded notes double as to-dos. As you incorporate the feedback into your video edits, click the gray check mark at the top of a time-coded note to resolve it. Resolving a note will strike out its text and the text of any of its replies. You can un-resolve a note by simply clicking the checkmark again.
Hiding notes
If there is a ton of existing feedback on your review page, reviewers can click the Hide Notes button to hide the feed and focus solely on your video. They can still leave time-coded notes when the feed is hidden, and clicking the Show Notes button will bring back the feed.
Downloading notes
If you want to save a local copy of all the notes left in your review page, you can download a CSV of all the notes left by clicking the menu above the notes and selectingDownload CSV. The CSV file will contain:
Video version the note was left on
Note number (order of parent notes, followed by order of that note's replies)
Time code where the note was left
User name of the commenter
The original note
A reply to the original note (if applicable)
The date and time the note was added
Whether or not the note has been resolved ("yes" or "no")
Managing your review page settings
Copy Link: The Copy Link button near the top right corner allows you to copy the video link, review link, download link and embed code.
Downloads: You can enable or disable the ability to download your video in the General tab, Privacy section in your video settings. If downloads are enabled, anyone with access to your review page will be able to download your videoby clicking the down arrow under the video player. Viewers can choose to download the video in any resolution, or download your source file if you have source file storage enabled.
Privacy: If your video is password-protected, then that same password will be required to view the review page. For all other privacy settings, the review page will be viewable to anyone with the direct link.
Send Files: The Send File button allows you to share a private page link to download your video files in multiple resolutions.
Sharing settings: Review mode allows time-coded notes to appear on your review page. Presentation mode allows you to share a view-only version of your video with no comments.
Vimeo logo: By default, the Vimeo logo appears in the top left corner of your review page. To remove it, click the sharing settings in the top right corner, deactivate the Display Vimeo Logo setting, and hit "Save."
Stats for your review page
If you are interested in the impressions, plays, finishes and downloads from your review page, go to your Source URL report, expand the vimeo.com row in the Source URL column, and look for your review page link.
Review page for 360 video
Vimeo PRO, Business, and Premium members can use the video review page to share their 360 video quickly and securely. However, the review pages in-video notes are not currently supported for 360 video and will be disabled automatically.
Vimeo Pro, Business, and Premium level users can share a link to all of the review pages of videos located in a folder. To do so, click the Share button at the top of the folder page (located below your profile picture, to the left of the folder settings icon).
You can also find a share icon on your folders when viewing the All videos page in grid view.
At the bottom of the modal window that opens, click Enable to access the shareable link. You can then copy the link to your folder and share it manually with other viewers.
When you visit the shareable link, youll end up on a landing page where you can view the thumbnails of all of the videos contained in your folder. You can click on one of the thumbnails to open the review page. As the account owner, you will see the top navigation panel where you can return to the previous landing page, copy a link to the review page being viewed, send the video file, and switch between review and presentation mode.
If you are viewing another members review page, youll be able to leave time-coded notes on the video. To see another video from the folder, click on the folder icon in the lower right hand corner of the page in order to open the video tray from which you will be able to make your selection.
In order to revoke access to the group of review pages, go back to the folder that you shared, click the Share button to open the modal window, and then click Disable above the shareable link. Onceyou'vedone so, be sure to confirm your changes to rescind viewing access.
View ArticleIn this article you'll find a breakdown of the privacy settings available for your videos. You can enable these settings on a per-video basis from your video's settings, or as a bulk task from the video manager. You can also set up upload defaults that will let you apply your desired settings to all current or future uploads.
Please note that if you make any changes to a video's privacy in an app (such as the Mevo app, Final Cut, iMovie, or the Vimeo app itself)that allows you to upload to Vimeo from a source other than Vimeo.com, any upload default settings you've set for your videos will be overridden. Any setting that is changed in an external app will take precedence over the upload defaults in the user's account settings.
Enabling domain-level privacyWith domain-level privacy, you can specify which websites are permitted to embed your video. Any sites that are not on your list will receive an error message when they attempt to embed it.
To set up domain-level privacy, head to video page and click the Settings button below the video player. From there, click over to the General tab, Privacy section. In the dropdown menu under the question Where can this video be embedded?, select Specific domains, then add the domain names for the sites where you'd like your video to be embedded. Dont forget to save your changes!
Here are some examples of domains you can add:
Main domain: mycoolsite.com
Subdomains: subdomain.mycoolsite.com
Please note that URL paths will be truncated so mycoolsite.com/specificpage will become mycoolsite.com. Rest assured that with the main domain saved, your videos will only be embeddable there.
Conversely, subdomains will need to be added individually; adding the main domain will not cover subdomains. Wildcard characters are not supported.
Basic members will need to upgrade to Vimeo Plus, PRO, Business, or Premium membership to unlock domain-level privacy.
Updating your video's privacy settingsTo change the privacy settings of your video, go to the video page and click Settings below the video player. Then click on the General tab, Privacy section, make your desired changes, and hit "Save."
To change the privacy settings of all your existing videos and set preferences for future uploads, go to the Upload defaults tab under the Video tab in your Account Settings.
If you want your new upload defaults to only apply to future uploads, simply hit the blue "Save" button after making your changes.
If you want your new upload defaults to apply to all your videos, make sure to check the box next to "Also apply to existing videos" before hitting the blue Save button.
Removing the ability to download your videosIf you don't want your video to be downloaded by others, head to your Video Settings page, then click the General tab, Privacy section. From there, toggle off the option People can download this video, and save.

View ArticleThe easiest way to avoid sync issues is to compress your video following our compression guidelines.
Here are some common causes for loss of audio sync:
Your source file is out of sync. Resolve any pre-existing sync issues in your editing software, then re-upload to Vimeo.
There may be slight variation between decoding technologies. Your video may look or sound different across different players and browsers(which is unfortunately out of Vimeos control). To minimize effects, make sure your browser is up to date and close any additional programs running on your computer.
Your video is encoded with a variable frame rate. Make sure you are using a constant frame rate(variable framerates are commonly used in webinars or screencasts).
Your video contains multiple edit list entries. This affects videos edited with QuickTime technology. Use the Export feature instead of Save or Save As.
In rare cases, our conversion process will sometimes lead to variation between your source file and our playback versions. To determine if that's the case, try this test:
Go to your video page
Download both your source file and the largest HD Vimeo version of your video using the "Download" button on your video page
Play both versions of the video in thesame program on your computer (e.g., Quicktime, Windows Media Player, or VLC) and make note of whether there's a difference between the two. If there are no differences, you may be experiencing a decoding issue in your browser.
If you're not quite sure what's causing your sync issue, please contact us so we can investigate further. Be sure to provide a link to the video(s) in question and a description of the places in the video where the loss of sync is especially apparent.
View ArticleYes, it's always a good idea to contact the video maker if you want to use a video. Our members retain copyright of their works, and it's up to them what type of use they choose to allow.
View ArticleWhile the Vimeo site and player may work on older setups, we strongly recommend keeping your system as up to date as possible. Browsers and operating systems are constantly releasing bug fixes, security updates, and improvements, and its our responsibility to keep up with them as well. Using the latest browser version can always help to prevent weirdness with Vimeo and the Interwebs at large.
Below youll find our minimum requirements for vimeo.com, playback, and apps.
Supported browsers playback
We support playback in browsers that can decode H.264videos in an HTML5 player. Due to rising security vulnerabilities, Vimeo no longer supports Flash. If youre using an older browser, system, or website, youll need to upgrade to continue watching Vimeo videos.
Here is a list of our supported browsers/versions:
Chrome 30+ (has automatic updates)
Firefox 27+ (has automatic updates)*
Internet Explorer 11*
Microsoft Edge
Safari 9+
*H.264 video (required for viewing Vimeo videos) is only supported in Firefox for Windows 7 and later. Firefox versions on Windows XP are no longer supported for playback.
*Older versions of Internet Explorer (IE 10, 9, 8, etc) that lack support for the TLS 1.2 protocol and HTML5 cannot be used to play Vimeo videos. As of January 12, 2016, Microsoft has stopped releasing updates to older versions of IE. (Microsoft's official statement on IE support can be found here)
Supported operating systems playback
The Vimeo player operates in a wide range of operating systems, but we can only guarantee full functionality on systems that are still being supported by their proprietors.
Microsoft has ended support for Windows XP and Windows Vista.
The earliest version of MacOS still receiving extended support from Apple is Sierra (v. 10.12.6), and support for it is rumored to end in September 2019. Earlier versions of MacOS (El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, etc) are not supported.
While we still love to hear about Vimeo bugs affecting older systems, we cannot always guarantee theyll be prioritized or solved.
Mobile/Tablets
Android (Lollipop) version 5.0+
iOS version 9.3.5+
Blackberry and Windows phone users: You may still able to view Vimeo videos on devices that support HTML5; however, we do not test out our player in these environments and thus cannot guarantee support.
Supported browsers vimeo.com site
For vimeo.com access and features, we currently support the latest version of the following browsers (mobile/desktop):
Chrome (has automatic updates)
Firefox(has automatic updates)
Safari
Edge
Internet Explorer 11
If you see a banner on vimeo.com asking you to upgrade your browser, you can check for the latest browser versions here.
Vimeo TV app
Here is a list of all our supported devices for the Vimeo TV app:
Apple TV (4th generation devices and higher)
Android TV version 5.0+
Roku (2nd generation streaming devices and higher)
Amazon Fire TV devices
Samsung TVs (2015-2018 Tizen-powered devices)
Chromecast (via our iOS and Android mobile apps, see below for requirements)
The Vimeo app for Blu-Ray players is no longer supported.
The Vimeo TV apps for Apple TV 2nd/3rd generation devices are no longer supported.
Vimeo mobile/tablet app
The Vimeo mobile/tablet apps are only available for iOS and Android. As always, we recommend keeping your device as up to date as possible, but here are the minimum requirements for app installation:
Android (Lollipop) version 5.0+
iOS version 9.3.5+
Vimeo macOS app
Here is the minimum system requirements for installing and using the Vimeo macOS app:
macOS 10.12 (Sierra) or higher. Older versions of macOS are not compatible.
Enhanced playback
Live events
Similar to uploaded videos, playback for live events is supported on any setup that supportsH.264videos,HTML5, and Media Source(specifically required for our adaptive streaming system). Please see our supported systems for playback above, with the following exceptions:
Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 and earlier is not supported for Vimeo Live
The Samsung Internet browser (all versions) is also not supported for Vimeo Live. We recommend installing Chrome instead.
5K, 6K, 7K, or 8K playback
To view our higher resolution playback versions, you must use a browser that supports h.265 (HEVC) decoding in an HTML5 player.
Here is a list of all the systems we currently support for high resolution playback:
Safari 11+ on MacOS 10.13 High Sierra or higher
Microsoft Edge 15+ on Windows 10 (with supported hardware)
HDR playback
To watch an HDR video, youll need to have a HDR10supported screen and a system that supports H.265 (HEVC) playback.
Here is a list of the environments where HDR can be viewed on Vimeo:
Safari 11+ on an iPhone X models
Apple TV 4K connected to a HDR10 TV or monitor
Android, Chromecast, Dolby Vision, and HDR 10+ hardware is not currently supported for HDR on Vimeo.
360 playback
For monoscopic360 playback on desktop (i.e on a monitor and not within a headset), we recommend using the latest version of the following browsers with WebGL and hardware acceleration enabled in the browser settings:
Chrome
Firefox
Edge
Safari (only in v. 11.0.2 or higher)
For monoscopic360playback on mobile:
The Vimeo iOS app (version 6.2+) on iOS (version 9.3.5+)
The Vimeo Android app (version 2.4+) on Android (version 5.0+)
Embedded videos on Chrome for Android (version 5.0+)
For 360playback within a mobileheadset :
The Vimeo iOS app (version 6.2+) on iOS (version 9.3.5+)
The Vimeo Android app (version 2.4+) on Android (version 5.0+)
360 video on Vimeo can only be viewed in headsetusing the Vimeo mobile app. Examples of mobile headsets are Google Cardboard and the Samsung Gear (without connecting the device to USB).
We do not support 360 playback in VR standalone headsets (such as the Oculus Go), where the Vimeo app cannot be accessed. Were hoping to expand to more hardware in the future.
All mobile devices require a built-in gyroscope sensor for 360playback playback. Please consult your devices documentation to confirm it's capabilities.
Internet Connection Requirements (playback)
We require minimum stabledownload speeds of 500 kbps or fasterin order to view our lowest quality, SD 240p. Since bandwidth tends to fluctuate for a number of unforeseen variables, we always recommend you use a dedicated Internet line of 5 Mbps or faster to stream and download high quality videos on the Internet. For optimal performance, ahardwired connection via Ethernet is best, but if you prefer to use WiFi, be sure that your router is configured correctly and that your network is not being shared with other devices (this can limit the starting speeds you pay your ISP for).
Not sure what speeds your device is receiving? Visit https://testmy.net/download (on mobile or desktop) for an estimate. We recommend performing this test a few times since bandwidth can change.
For more in-depth information about bandwidth and troubleshooting, please visit this article on playback quality and buffering issues.
View ArticleBasic membership is perfect for a taste of Vimeo. As a Basic member, you receive:
500MB per week of upload space, up to 5GB total account storage
Unlimited bandwidth in the Vimeo player
Basic embedding features
Basic analytics for your videos
The ability to download converted video files
Password protection and other basicprivacy controls for yourvideos
The ability to upload up to 10 videos per day
The ability to create 1 channel, 1 group, and 3 showcases
Guidelines for Basic membersBasic membership isfree forever, so as long as you are following our Guidelines and logging in every once in a while, your account will remain intact. We consider accounts that have not been used for a full year to be inactive, and we reserve the right to remove inactive accounts. Not to worry though, well give you plenty of advance notice if your account is in danger of deletion due to inactivity, and youll have an opportunity to reactivate it.
Businesses may not use Basic or Plus accounts to host videos. If you want to upload commercial videos, you must use Vimeo PRO or Business. Commercial content includes:
Videos promoting or representing a for-profit business or brand
Videos containing any form of advertising
Videos hosted on behalf of a business (i.e., uploaded to Vimeo and embedded on your companys website)
Product demos and tutorials
There are exceptions, however! If you are an independent production company, author, artist, or non-profit, you may use any account type (Basic, Plus, PRO, or Business) to showcase your work.
You can go to vimeo.com/upgrade to compare our plans and upgrade to Vimeo Plus, PRO or Business at anytime.
Lapsing from paid membership to Basic membershipMost of the video platforms that offer free storage are financially supported by in-stream advertising. Vimeo, on the other hand, is a proudly ad-free and subscriber-supported video platform. The cost of our Plus, PRO, and Business memberships covers the expenses of all of the services we provide, including feature development, uploading and conversion, video storage, and video playback.
Because video storage and delivery are ongoing costs to our business, there is a limit to how much storage we can offer to our free members. Though there is a 5GB total storage cap on Basic accounts, you will still get to keep 10GB of the video uploaded during your paid subscription after you lapse to Basic. Any videos that exceed this limit will be moved to our archives for up to one year, starting with the videos you first uploaded to Vimeo as a paying member, and will no longer be viewable by you or anyone else.
Please note:If your total video storage exceeds 5GB, you will lose the ability to upload new content upon lapsing. You can free up storage on your existing account by deleting some of your older videos, rough cuts, or backups until you are under the 5GB cap.
If you recently downgraded to Basic, you can visit this page for more information.
View ArticleAs a Vimeo PRO, Business, or Premium member, you can invite team members to your account to help upload and manage your videos and collections. PRO members can add up to 3 team members to their account and Vimeo Business and Premium members can add up to 10.
Here's a short video about how team members work on an account:
Team member typesThere are three permission types for team members: uploaders, contributors, and admin. All types will need to make their own Vimeo account in order to be able to join a team.
Uploaders can only upload videos to your account. On their upload page, they will be able to toggle between uploading videos to their own account and uploading videos to your account. Uploaders will only be able to edit the title and description of the video while it is being uploaded to your account. Any videos an uploader adds to your account will have the privacy setting Only Me, but as the account owner, you can change the video's privacy setting after upload.
Note: Uploaders will need to make sure they select the correct account from their upload page.
Contributors can be invited to access a specific project within your account. Theyll have the ability to upload, edit, review, share, and publish videos within a project, butwon'thave access to any of your other projects or areas of your account. A contributor alsowon'tbe able to change the title of a project, delete a project, or delete a video from the owner's account. Contributors will see the option to switch between your account and their own from their profile picture menu.
Then, once they go to the Video Manager, they will be able to only see the projects that they have been invited to.
In addition, contributors on a Premium account can access settings of an archived live event within the project folder to which they contribute. Contributors can start a live event to Vimeo if they are using an external encoder via RTMP (after the Owner or Admin creates an event and provides the Contributor to with the RTMP URL and Stream Key). Take note that if the Vimeo account is connected to other social accounts such as Facebook, then any live events the Contributor starts from their encoder will also simulcast to that destination.
Admins can access your account to help you upload and manage all your videos, projects, and collections. As with Contributors, they will see the option to switch between your account and their own in their profile picture menu. They can quickly tell which account they are navigating by looking at the profile picture; if their photo overlaps with yours, then they are in your account.
Admins will not be able to access your account settings or payment information.Admins also cannot delete videos; only the account owner can do this.
Admins have access to all other account features, including:
Purchasing Vimeo On Demand titles
Setting up Vimeo On Demand titles for sale, including entering a PayPal email address to receive payment for sales
Creating, managing, and deleting collections
Creating, managing, and deleting projects
Changing the privacy settings of your videos
Admins on Premium accounts can additionally do the following:
Create live events
Adjust privacy settings, embed customization, and interaction tool settings for live events
Stream to live events using WebRTC or RTMP from an external encoder
End live events
Please note that Admins on Premium accountscannot access Simulcast settings, Authenticate API encoders (e.g. Livestream Studio, Mevo), or delete live events.
In addition, team members and administrators cannot manage or create developer apps for a parent Pro, Business, or Premium account.
Adding a team member to your accountTo add a team member, click the " Manage Team " tab in your Account Settings. Youll see all your existing team members on this page (by default, its just you listed there). Click the "+ Add team member" link on the right side of the page, and a module will pop up. Youll need to enter your team members email address, then select Uploader, Contributor, or Admin from the dropdown menu. For Contributors, youll need to select the project theyll be working out of before you send the invite.
You can also add a Contributor directly to a project from your Video Manager. Select the project you want to add a contributor to, click the + icon (between your profile picture and the Video Manager search bar) to pull up a menu that shows all the team members currently on the project (by default, its just you). Click Add, type in the email address of the Contributor, then hit the Send button to invite them to your project.
Pro tip: enter the email address associated with their existing Vimeo account if they have one!
Accepting an invitation to join a team
Any person you invite to be an Uploader, Contributor, or Admin to your account will need to log into their own Vimeo account or create a Vimeo account (if theydon'thave one) before they can accept your invitation. Make sure the email address you invite matches the email address your team member uses to create an account.
After you (the account owner) send the invite, the team member will appear in your team list with a status of Pending. If the personyou'veadded still hasnt responded to your invite, you can send them a reminder. Hover over the Pending status and click the Send reminder link that appears.
If your team member is having trouble receiving the invite email, you can send them a direct invite URL by hovering over the Pending status and clicking Copy invite link and sending it directly to your team member. Please note that this link is unique to each individual team member, so itcan'tbe used to invite others to the account. Once a team member accepts the invitation, the Copy invite link option will not appear any longer.Removing a team member from your account
You can revoke a team members access to your Vimeo account at any time by clicking the gray X at the end of the members row on the Manage Team page. Only the account owner has the ability to remove team members from an account, but admins can remove contributors from a project.
