Please note the following differences between the app and the website:

Any search history, either from a purchase or a look-up, may only be available on the original device.

Why am I still seeing my name in a blue box after removing my listing?

If you have already had your data removed, and you perform a search for your name on Whitepages.com, you should expect to see your name in a blue box on the search results page. This is only a search optimization feature, and the contents of the blue box, as well as the corresponding URL/web address for the search results, are based entirely on the terms that were entered into the search field. Since we cannot control what people search for on our site, we cannot remove or prevent any specific terms from appearing in that blue box.

For example, below you can see what happens when a search is performed for "Ohayo Gozaimasu" in Seattle, WA.

A name and location will appear in the blue box, the above URL/web address, and links to Whitepages Premium below that match the search terms:

If you click on View Full Report or any of the links below, you will be taken to a search results page on Whitepages Premium that shows either no results or the closest pages we could find to match your search terms, just like any search engine. If your listing has been removed, it will not be included in these Whitepages Premium Search results.

If you click on one of those links, and we do have a profile for that listing, you will see a window like this:

If you see the above window, or see any specific personal details that were not entered into the search field, it means we may still have a listing for you, and you can to request to have the listing removed.

  • Caller ID spoofing is when a caller purposefully hides the number they are calling from and causes a different number to appear on your caller ID. Scammers will often do something called "neighbor spoofing," which makes it appear as if you are receiving a call from your area code in an effort to get you to answer the phone. If you do answer, the scammer will typically try to get you to divulge sensitive information, such as a credit card or social security number, in order to steal from you.

If you receive a call from a number you don't know, we recommend letting the call go to voicemail without answering. If the call is legitimate, they will likely leave you a voicemail and let you know how to contact them if necessary. You can also look the number up using Whitepages reverse phone lookup to see if it's a person or business that you know.

Please keep in mind that if you look up a spoofed phone number on Whitepages, it may belong to a real person and likely won't be labeled as spam on our site. Scammers who employ number spoofing usually switch numbers pretty quickly, which means it won't receive enough spam reports for us to flag it.

For more information on spam reporting on Whitepages, please take a look at this article: How do I view or report a phone number as spam?

  • Whitepages Premium will search through digitized court records from local municipalities all over the United States. When available, court records will show criminal arrests and warrants, mugshots, sex offender status, and offense and case details. If no information appears, that means that either the person you searched for has a clean record, or that those records are unavailable. When viewing a background report, it's also good to keep in mind that since these reports come directly from local municipalities, the depth of information contained in a report can vary from state to state.

When a background report is purchased, you will see any court records that Whitepages Premium has matched to the listing. We still recommend reviewing the match indicators to help you verify that the court records have been correctly associated with the listing the background report is attached to. This can be especially helpful in cases where you're trying to find someone with a rather common name.

    United States Library of Congress

In the above example, we can see that the profile on the right indicates that the Middle name is "Not Matched," and there are multiple reasons why this could be the case. It's possible the court record does not contain a middle name, but the listing does, which would result in a mismatch. However, there is a slight possibility that the record has been erroneously associated with the listing because of the other match indicators that have lined up. We include these match indicators so that you can be aware of any information that you would need to review with added discretion.

  • The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is a United States federal law that regulates how businesses and people may use consumer report information. The FCRA promotes the accuracy, fairness, and privacy of information in the files of companies governed by the FCRA ("Consumer Reporting Agencies"), and requires others to only use information from Consumer Reporting Agencies when making decisions about an individual's employment, housing, creditworthiness, and eligibility for insurance, among other things.

The services provided through Whitepages.com, 411.com, Whitepages Premium, or any affiliated mobile apps are not FCRA compliant. This means data obtained from these services cannot be used for the purposes governed by the FCRA. Consumer Reporting Agencies are the only ones that are able to provide sufficient information about an individual to help make decisions regarding employment, insurance, housing, and creditworthiness.

However, Whitepages TenantCheck does provide FCRA compliant reports for the purposes of screening potential tenants. For more information, please visitthe Whitepages TenantCheck Help Center.

We understand that visitors may have questions about restrictions in using data provided by the aforementioned services. Here is a short list of examples of situations in which you should NOT use data obtained through the above services in decision making or screening. Keep in mind that this list does not contain every possible prohibited use, but it should aid as a helpful guideline.

Whitepages data cannot be used to make decisions in any of the following situations:

Screening of prospective tenants (unless you're using Whitepages TenantCheck )

Determining whether or not to hire a potential employee

Conducting background checks on current or future household employees, such as nannies and cleaners

    Determining a person's creditworthiness

    Determining eligibility for insurance

  • You can check to see if a phone number has been reported as spam, or report a phone number as spam yourself on Whitepages.com. After doing a reverse phone search, and follow the steps below to either view a phone number's spam rating or report it.

If you've received a spam call that is not labelled as such on our site, there are a couple possible reasons for this. The first is that we haven't received enough reports yet for the number to be classified as spam. The second is that you may be seeing a spoofed number. For more information about number spoofing, please take a look at this article: What is caller ID spoofing?

    Viewing a Spam Report

After doing a reverse phone search on Whitepages.com for a phone number, you will be immediately notified if a phone number has been reported as spam or fraud. If a number has been reported enough times to be classified as spam, the number will be displayed like this:

Clicking on View Details will allow you to see more information about the number.

If a number has not been classified as spam or fraud, the phone number will look like this:

    Reporting Spam

If a phone number has not been reported as spam, you can click Phone Number Details to see more information, as well as the option to report the number, by clicking report it.

Clicking onreport it will open up a window asking for information about the number.

You should not expect the spam rating to change immediately, since a single spam report will not necessarily change a phone number's classification as either spam or fraud. A phone number will be classified as spam after enough reports are submitted within a certain amount of time.

If a number is already classified as spam, you can still add your report. Just scroll down until you see this input box:

You can also report a number aslegitimate by clickingNot Spam. Since phone number owners do change from time to time, it is possible that a number once flagged as being associated with spam, would then be transferred to someone else, who is not associated with spam or fraud. A phone number is classified as spam or fraud after enough reports are received within a certain amount of time. Whitepages cannot manually reset a phone number's spam classification. However, if we stop receiving these reports, the spam rating of a phone number will gradually decrease until it is no longer labelled as such.

Whitepages recommends reaching out to the data providers directly to add, edit, or remove information on a business listing. Correctingthe source details will help ensure accuracy on our website, as well as similar data providers that are not affiliated with Whitepages.

The majority of the business data on Whitepages comes from the following provider:

    Infogroup/Express Update

If you would like the information removed, you can request that directly through Whitepages instead of contacting a third party data source. Submit this completed ticket form, and an agent will begin the process to remove the listing entirely.

  • Our mobile apps now provide in-depth background reports on the people you're researching. This is powered through a system we call SmartCheck, which is designed to scan through our data, provide quick insights, and inform you to make the right judgment.

If you're wondering what SmartCheck provides, please review this article on our Help Center.

To access the Background Report information on the mobile app, toggle to "Smart Check" at the top of any contact report page. If we have additional information available on that person, you'll be presented with options to purchase the extensive collection of details.

  • SmartCheck background reports on Whitepages already contain all the information we have on a person's criminal history that has been made digitally available by local courthouses. However, some counties can be a little slow about digitizing their records, and some don't do this at all. Therefore, in order to get the most up to date information about a person, it is sometimes necessary for someone to physically go to a county court and retrieve the records. Thats where Court Runner comes in.

The Court Runner service allows you to have someone sent directly to county courts throughout the continental United States, and retrieve the details of their criminal records from the past 7 years. Since we are sending an actual person to your chosen county courthouse, there is a non-refundable service cost and it will take some time for the records to get returned to you.

What can I expect to see in a Court Runner report?

This can vary somewhat between individual country courts, but you can expect to see any details on felony or misdemeanor court cases from the past 7 years that resulted in a conviction. Some counties will go back as far as 10 years, and some will contain traffic records as well. County courts do not provide information beyond that, nor do they contain records for civil or federal court cases or arrests that do not end in conviction.

If you order a Court Runner report, and no records are returned, that means that none of the above information was found in the chosen or the past 7 years for the person you are researching.

How do I order and view Court Runner info on a person?

You can order a Court Runner report directly from the SmartCheck background report. All you have to do is scroll down to the blue Court Runner section of the report, which is located underneath the Criminal, Legal & Financial History section, here:

    clicking here

After requesting a court runner report, you'll be asked to confirm which counties you'd like to send a court runner to. Once the results come back back, we'll put the details here the same place.

When can I expect the additional info from Court Runner to arrive?

Unlike normal SmartCheck background reports on Whitepages, you will not receive Court Runner information instantly. Since real people will be physically going to a local county court, the amount of time it takes will depend on the location of the courthouse.

Why are there additional fees associated with Court Runner?

Since the Court Runner service involves an actual person physically travelling to a county courthouse, they are paid up front to gather and compile the information for your report, which is then placed into your Whitepages Premium account for you to view.

While many counties do not charge any fees to request criminal records, some counties do. These fees can range between $1 and $65. We will of course make you aware of any fees imposed by specific counties before you make any purchases.

Due to the additional costs involved with sending someone to a courthouse along with any potential court fees, Court Runner reports are non-refundable.

Who do I contact with questions about Court Runner?
