The store recently changed ownership. Half of the employees are leaving. The owner wants us to let coworkers check on our register. He makes inappropriate comments about very young female workers. He micromanages and is disrespectful to managers. He hates his customer base.

The managers and coworkers, and the customers. It was inclusive, collaborative, and genuinely fun. It felt like all the hard work was appreciated.

Not all owners interview in the same way. The owners that hired me were down to earth, honest. They looked more at my people skills, work ethic, and willingness to learn than the gap in my resume from being a stay at home mom.

I feel undervalued because the new owners expect us to do more work than is possible during our shift. They don't want us to work overtime, but are angry when we cant finish what they've told us. Its not a matter of us not working hard, its that they're expectations are impssible with a small staff.

We help each other when needed. We have a shortage of some necessary items, so we share and make sure a coworker has a necessary item when needed. Our managers delegate tasks based on who enjoys or excels at the task, so we feel valued and heard, but we also will trade if another coworker needs to.
