I am worried that Evonik has not kept pace with my area's coast of living increases.

We need to understand how to properly train new operators, and how long it takes for new operators to become self sufficient. Also we start our contractors out at $15.40 per hour. The local carwash starts out at $16.00 an hour. It's hard to recruit top tier people that way.
