In today’s recruiting climate, discovering and attracting the right talent requires a new level of resourcefulness. To unearth innovative, passionate candidates, we’re utilizing exciting digital and IT events with a massive return on branding exposure, like hackathons, and engaging people in a fun a way that meets their needs. We’re also taking a deeper look at our ideal candidates to understand what’s most important to them and their communities, including improved work/life balance, alternative schedules, or anything that realistically speaks to their needs.

What are the benefits to your company of adapting to a flex work schedule?

Caring for our staff is deeply important to who we are, which is why we’ve also increased our number of new and existing Work-At-Home career options. Doing so has played a huge role in reducing the transmission of COVID-19, helped decrease transportation costs for staff, and freed up more time for them to spend with family and friends. Because of this flexibility, we’ve seen an incredible increase in both female applicants globally and senior staff returning to work part time to supplement their incomes. Can you tell us a little bit about the flexible work options your company offers employees?

To support and connect all our employees — whether they’re in the office, on the road, at home, or anywhere else — we’ve designed a model we call Success From Anywhere: an ecosystem of values, practices, and products that enables flexible remote work while creating and sustaining innovation, workplace relationships, and employee development. Employee feedback has guided our office reopening strategy, with survey results showing that 80% of our employees want to maintain a connection to a physical office space — but not every day. So as it becomes safe to return to the office, most of our employees around the world will be Office-Flexible, working in a Salesforce office 1-3 days per week for in-person team collaboration, customer meetings, presentations, and events; while Home-Based employees, who don’t live near an office or work in roles that don’t require an office presence, will continue to work remotely full-time. We’ve introduced Flex Team Agreements (FTAs) to outline how work gets done, such as how we behave and operate and how we schedule workdays, hold meetings, communicate, collaborate, and document processes and projects.

At Textron Systems, we have a variety of Compressed Work Week schedules for our employees. Depending on job function and location, we offer a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off), a 4/10 schedule (every Friday off), or a combination of the two.

Can you tell us a little bit about the flexible work options your company offers employees?

In response to the changing marketplace and the desires of workers to have a better work/life balance, LG has instituted a new Flexible Work Arrangements policy allowing for 2/3rds of all employees to enter into a new type of work schedule coming out of the global pandemic. New arrangements include a hybrid schedule whereby employees will work part of the week in the office and part of the week from home, full-time remote work, and new flexible work hours. LG believes this is a necessary benefit not only for our employees but also for us to be competitive in the war for talent with a tightening labor force.

As well as having full-time remote positions, Deem is transitioning to a hybrid work model so that employees near an office can determine where to work and when in order to be happier and most productive.

Some of us work best from our bedrooms. Some of us prefer an office environment. Vistaprint’s goal is to give our team members the flexibility to choose the working conditions that best suit their needs. Our offices have become collaboration centers with bookable hotdesks and a mix of spaces where team members can meet in person to work and socialize whenever needed. Any of our team members who choose to leverage these collaboration centers can do so as frequently or infrequently as they like and they will continue to have the autonomy to create their own schedules.

For positions where being at a Medela location is not required, Medela employees have the flexibility to determine with their manager a solution that works for them – be it fully remote or a hybrid remote/in-office plan. We have the solutions in place to stay connected virtually, so we see the benefit of creating policies that reflect this direct employee need. Additionally, our US offices have introduced part-time positions within our productions team, offering more flexible work options. We do have guidelines in place to support each solution but have found that empowering teams to find a solution that works best for their workflow is most successful.

We are a hybrid company. Some of our employees will be working from the office and some remotely when it is safe to return to an in-person office environment. But what does that mean? It means that we aim to continue to be the agile workforce we have always been. It means that we recognize some teams are more productive and collaborative in-office and some are more effective remote. With over half of our employees remote to the Chicago HQ office, we paved the way for flexible work locations and continue to offer this flexibility. We embrace digital communication tools that allow our staff to work asynchronously. Most exciting, we’re currently trying out a 4 Day Work Week.
