At nCino, diversity is a large part of what drives our success. We believe that supporting our employees is more than encouraging them to add pronouns to their Slack profiles or email signatures—we aim to truly create a safe space where employees feel they can come to work as their true selves. As part of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative, we are home to a number of affinity groups, which employees can join for support, connection, and allyship. Our nPride group has hosted various panels to raise awareness, amplify the voices of LGBTQIA+ community members and invite non-identifying colleagues to consider their peers’ experiences with empathy.

We are also covering a majority of employees’ Folx memberships, which gives our trans-identified employees the option to follow an informed consent model to skip through challenging insurance hoops and get hormone replacement therapy delivered straight to their homes. We will continue to explore even more benefits to support our LGBTQ+ employees and are excited to launch more in 2022!

As the world’s largest social networking app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people, we spend every day focused on connecting and celebrating millions of LGBTQ+ users. We love the work that we do to connect the global queer community externally and we believe it is equally critical to support our LGBTQ-identified employees internally. We work hard to create a culture that is welcoming, inclusive, and enables employees to show up as their most authentic selves. This includes providing critical things like comprehensive benefits, health care, and compensation, but it also includes broader initiatives we run like allyship training, annual pride events, and public partnerships that amplify and celebrate our LGBTQ-identified employees’ voices. We focus on these initiatives because we want every employee to know they are valued and because we believe that the more representative and connected we are to the queer community internally, the better we will be able to support the millions of queer users on our app.

At Capital One, diversity, inclusion, and belonging are valued at our core. Our associates are empowered to do great work by creating an inclusive culture—a place where associates of all backgrounds, including our LGBTQ+ community, can thrive by bringing their most authentic selves to work. We have a long track record of advocating for policies that advance all dimensions of LGBTQ+ equality, from housing and employment protections to marriage equality. We were one of the first major companies to offer same-sex partner benefits back in 1997 and continue to be an early adopter of other policies promoting equality and belonging in the workplace. We are fully committed to fostering talent from all backgrounds across all levels and roles and advancing a culture of belonging where every associate is seen, heard, and valued. This comes to life through many channels, including Capital One’s Business Resource Groups. These are associate-led, self-managed groups that connect based on common interests, backgrounds, demographics, identity, or a passion for allyship and inclusivity. The Out Front Business Resource Group is a growing, thriving community that fosters welcoming spaces for all at Capital One. When LGTBQ+ associates come to work, they are empowered to live their truth with allies and supportive colleagues. We constantly update our approach to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB). As an organization, we view diversity as a mindset, not a one-off initiative. That’s why we have a dedicated BRITE program consisting of five pillars: belonging, respect, inclusion, togetherness, and equity. With BRITE, all employees get the chance to understand, share and learn together. We have dedicated training programs around allyship building. Our focus on allyship helps those outside the LGBTQIA+ community better understand the challenges their peers face on a regular basis. This means we are better able to provide support as a company. And it reinforces our approach to always foster an inclusive, respectful environment for all members within the OneWilson community. WilsonHCG has multiple employee belonging groups (EBGs), including [email protected] This is an informative and welcoming place for LGBTQIA+ members and allies to discuss topics related to the community, share their stories, and build meaningful connections in the process. This EBG also works hard to increase the understanding of gender expression and identity through various global activities, including live webinars, training sessions, unconscious bias training, and awareness campaigns featuring employees and allies sharing stories about their journeys. Other initiatives include: -Employees in many of our global offices, including Canada, the UK, and the US attend local Pride events to mark Global Pride. -We mark the Trans Day of Visibility, sharing content with our employees to show how people can help to support the causes for trans people universally and how they can respect trans individuals. -Our employees participate in the CommUNITY Rainbow Run and CommUNITY Festival, an event designed to mark and celebrate the “Love, Hope, Courage, Strength, Unity and Acceptance” that brought Orlando and the world together during the healing process following the Pulse nightclub tragedy of June 12, 2016. -We’ve been credited as a Tampa Bay Business Journal Pride honoree and our executive Marisol Hughes was named by Staffing Industry Analysts as a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion influencer to mark our consistent commitment to acting for supporting the LGBTQIA+ community

Why is it important to support LGBTQ employees in 2021?

Research from the Human Rights Campaign indicates one in 10 workers has left a job because the environment wasn’t accepting of LGBTQIA+ people. The LGBTQIA+ community continues to face many challenges. Many feel judged for who they are and simply want (and deserve) the opportunity to feel like they belong and bring their true selves to work. This is why companies must show support and make their stances known to LGBTQIA+ employees. It’s one reason we’re invested in our BRITE platform and EBGs. By prioritizing DEIB and taking it seriously, you’ll find it much easier to attract diverse candidates from a variety of backgrounds as well. To do this, you must evaluate your current diversity practices and processes regularly. This shows candidates and employees that you take real action in fostering a welcome, inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds.

Any company that builds a powerful, fully supported workforce will find their people will bust through walls for them and deliver huge wins. Here at Vista, we are passionate about supporting small businesses in everything we do, and LGBTQ+ employees are a huge part of making that happen. What LGBTQ+ people, or BIPOC people, or senior cis-women in technology, or junior cis-men on the manufacturing floor need to be fully supported may differ a little bit from individual to individual. Together, however, we form strong teams that bust through walls every day.

Transgender women of color especially need support as they are our most vulnerable population. Sadly, many Trans folx are not provided the opportunity to succeed in corporate spaces. We all must do better. Train employees, welcome LGBTQ+ folx into your organization, and provide a space for queer people to be seen and heard.
