No, as long as they’re not being disliked for being unprofessional and they still show respect.

You will never be liked by everyone. But you can govern by a demonstrable set of values and character. You may not be liked by all, but you will be respected. It starts at the top and many in those positions these days have forgotten that.

Like is different than respect. Everyone should respect one another, but I could give a hoot if someone likes me or not. It certainly is nice to be liked, but when you become a boss, it's grey.

It's not important for the boss to care if the employee likes him or her they're running a company and they're trying to establish a good business ethic with their business flourishing from year to year so the answer would be no the boss does not care for the employee likes him or her.

Yes and no. A boss should care if their employees like them to the degree the employee buys into the vision of the boss. Outside of that, it does make the work place a more enjoyable atmosphere when everyone gets along.

Not necessarily, obviously each have objectives. Some subordinates naturally resentment authority. So, it’s hard to predict. The boss would be better off seeking respect.

I think a boss should care if their employees *trust* and *respect* them first. Do you have a good rapport? Can your employees come to you with problems or ideas? I feel the least satisfied at work when I like my boss but don't trust or respect them.

No, as long as it is not a distraction in the workplace.
