    Probably three months. If they are showing improvement and a genuine ability to take feedback, then they are probably not a bad hire. If they refuse to improve, no amount of time will help you or them.

    If the "bad hire" is genuinely trying prove his/her competence and did not lie in the interviews I might give a couple months. In case the bad hire was because of false information provided, it would be immediate termination.
