How are layoffs handled in the IT department at Allegiant Travel Company?

Lots of incompetent hires from India due to low cost. Highly doubt any of the offshore contractors are actual engineers in software. Clear show of favoritism and communication is barely any. Technology is definitely not bleeding edge. If you want to challenge yourself and have a decent career, avoid this place. Glad to have left.
Fairly roughly. Allegiant has been moving much of its IT work to India over the past 3 years. Communication inside the IT department is really bad and often there is no announcement when teams are cut or jobs get eliminated in favor of India hiring. There’s high churn, high turnover in IT. It’s also known across the company as one of the most favoritism-based depts and also seen as the least competent.
What skills do you need to be successful in the IT department at Allegiant Travel Company?
Get in with the right people. You have far less accountability if you are friends with the CIO and so everyone tries to ensure they are seen talking to that individual or to one of his yes-men.
Good communication, thick skin, ability to report and report and report again.
How innovative is Allegiant Travel Company?
True business tram for the airline are highly skilled and very innovative. Allegiant develops most of their own software which is a forward-looking approach but they produce very low quality results. It’s not likely worth it in the end due to the productivity losses around the rest of the company.

Not good. It’s a culture based on who you know, not what you get done. the rest of the company is dragged down by IT and the executive team in IT are fairly unprofessional - lots of tantrums, unwillingness to answer tough questions and a very take-it or leave-it attitude. If you get in as a favorite you’re set. Otherwise, you’re disposable.
Good leadership. They listen and respond to logical requests and arguments.

IT is a great organization. We work hard and there are tons of things to do, but we do them and are respected for it. I'm averaging 45 hours/week.
