There's too much micromanaging. Why put people in place that can't do the job? Have salespeople annonomously vote for potential candidates. I've tried to get promoted and fail everytime even though my team of 30 thinks I can do the job. Other departments teams want me as their manager but I never get anywhere because I don't drink enough of the koolaide. I'm real and it's too real for Nordstrom. I take risks that increase sales and get in trouble for it. At least 10 cust. A day ask me where are dressy after 5 shoes are and I can only show them an old lady pump selection or tell them to go online. I reach out to my regional and she does nothing.
I would pay the sales people for their time spent on helping customers with returns and alterations on things that are purchased online. These two things that we are expected to do, take me off the selling floor and cause missed opportunities to sell. These issues need to be addressed. Either returns need to be done at the service desk as they are being paid hourly to handle such matters. Same for alterations for online and Rack merchandise. We should have a full time support person to handle these services.
The culture is fine, some of the rules are not. The return policy has to be costing the company millions.
