Political discussions have historically been an office no-no — and there may be good reason. Today, 1 in 3 people say their coworkers’ political views affect their working relationships, according to the latest reading of an ongoing query by Comparably.
More than 5,000 people across the tech industry responded to the query.
The youngest are most sensitive
People in the 18 to 25-year-old age group were most likely to say their coworkers’ political views affect them (nearly 45%). The percentage declined from there, hitting a low among workers 46 to 50 (29%).

Minorities in focus
Forty-four percent of African American respondents and 41% of Hispanic/Latino respondents say they are affected by their coworkers’ political views. Thirty-two percent of Caucasians said the same.

Men vs. women
Women were slightly more likely than men to say their coworkers’ political views affect their working relationships.
The latest reading is as of April 18.
