Terna SpA was founded on May 31, 1999. The Company is engaged in the transmission of electricity. Its segments include regulated activities and non-regulated activities. Regulated activities include the development, operation and maintenance of the National Transmission Grid in addition to dispatching. The operating segment of non-regulated activities instead includes specialised services provided to third parties mainly relating to systems engineering services, the operation and maintenance of high and extra high voltage plants and the housing of telecommunications equipment and optical fiber network maintenance services. These activities are provided in a free market context by means of specific commercial initiatives. It owns almost all of the National Transmission Grid in Italy and is responsible for the transmission and dispatching of electricity on the High and Extra High Voltage grid throughout the country, as well as the planning, implementation and maintenance of the grid.
