Executive Bio

Ms. Catherine Garfinkel, also known as Kate, has been Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer and Vice President of Alcoa Corporation since November 1, 2016. Ms. Garfinkel leads Alcoa's global ethics and compliance programs and ensures alignment to its Values as well as compliance with applicable regulations. Ms. Garfinkel rejoined Alcoa Inc. in 2014 as Ethics and Compliance Counsel, where she managed its anti-corruption program and the Integrity Champion Network. Prior to her departure from Alcoa in June 2004, Ms. Garfinkel served as Counsel in the Legal Department. She joined Alcoa in 1996 and served as Business Unit Counsel to its extruded construction products and wheels businesses and as a Member of the mergers & acquisitions practice area. In the interim, Ms. Garfinkel worked for PPG Industries in roles of increasing responsibility in the law department. First as Senior Counsel, then Corporate Counsel, she was accountable for all legal services to PPG's chlor-alkali and specialty chemicals businesses. She managed a diverse group of attorneys in the EMEA region during a time of growth and business redesign as General Counsel of Europe, working in the Geneva, Switzerland area. Ms. Garfinkel subsequently joined U.S. Steel Corporation as General Attorney, International, with responsibility for its anti-corruption and trade compliance functions. Earlier in her career, Ms. Garfinkel was a Commercial Litigation Attorney at the Pittsburgh law firm of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott. She is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Three Rivers Rowing Association. She serves on the Board of Advisors for the Center for International Legal Education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She received her Juris Doctor degree from the Duquesne University School of Law, where she was a member of the law review. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from the University of Texas at Austin.
