Despite my concerns about the quality of our company's upper management, strategy, and my compensation, I work for managers who maintain a fairly relaxed environment. I had severe burnout at my last job, so this is very valuable to me. The lack of project management challenging though.
What do you like best about the leadership team?
I do believe that the team understands how challenging it can be to retain employees and they react accordingly. I think this company seems to be fairly progressive in its work/life balance efforts.
What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?
My coworkers are unable to reach their full potential because our project management and process documentation are so poor. I believe we communicate with each other well, but our efforts are inefficient because our goals and paths to success are so unclear.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
I am unclear on how we will evolve for the future of our market and have nearly zero confidence that the people setting our strategy understand the market, technology, or regulatory environment. I believe we don't understand the real selling points of our product relative to our competitors' issues.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
I enjoy my department's bottom-up management; I am given clear expectations and am given the freedom to achieve them as I see fit. My manager facilitates my activities and eliminates roadblocks. I am given reasonable schedule flexibility and am not expected to treat work as a second home or family.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
I am occasionally sought out for employment elsewhere, and the pay and benefits are often quite impressive. I believe it is impossible for the company to fairly evaluate me because I don't believe my position is well understood and I think my failures are often caused by larger company issues.
